Asking why we don’t know more about pitching injuries
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Injuries, MLB,
Every year, teams lose pitchers to the disabled list due to arm injuries. It’s inevitable. In 2010 alone, teams averaged using 20 pitchers over the course of the season. Whether it’s fatigue due to overworking, shoulder muscle tears or busted elbows that require Tommy John Surgery, pitchers continue to go down and we still have no realistic clue why it’s happening.

New Jersey Devils falling apart on and off the ice
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,
It’s going to take a heck of a winning streak to turn the New Jersey Devils from this season’s biggest bust into a playoff contender – at best. After headlining a rather tame summer with the contract controversy of Ilya Kovalchuk, the Devils now find themselves competing with the New York Islanders for last place in the Eastern Conference. But with almost a dozen regulars out with injuries, the Red Sox are still in a surprisingly good position.

NHL hopes to punish for headshots before the playoffs
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Front Office, NHL,
The NHL has announced that they want to implement their head-shots rule as soon as possible. There’s just some of the usual red tape to be taken care of first. Two years ago, the league adopted the affectionately-named “Sean Avery” rule the day after Avery was seen blatantly obstructing Devils goalie Martin Brodeur without any other concern for on-ice action. However, the league called it an “interpretation” of an existing rule. That in itself is the NHL’s biggest problem. Many rules are open to interpretation.

Matching suspensions with injuries is a bad idea
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Editorial, Injuries, NHL,
As the NHL GMs debate in Florida about various issues in the game, including headshots, fans have been rampant throughout the internet letting their opinions on the issue be heard as well. Everybody seems to have an opinion, one of which being that offending players should be suspended until the injured player returns. While the idea behind that is decent, there are several holes in the idea that will prevent the GMs from giving it serious consideration. Here’s why.
