The National Hockey League has been trying out some possible rule changes this week. Dubbed the 2010 NHL Research, Development and Orientation Camp, general managers across the league have helped shape the tests to evaluate the effectiveness of various aspects of NHL hockey. The NHL has acknowledged that players are faster, stronger and more skilled than ever before, so they want to see if any subtle improvements could be made to the game while still maintaining its integrity and not confusing fans.

As the NHL GMs debate in Florida about various issues in the game, including headshots, fans have been rampant throughout the internet letting their opinions on the issue be heard as well. Everybody seems to have an opinion, one of which being that offending players should be suspended until the injured player returns. While the idea behind that is decent, there are several holes in the idea that will prevent the GMs from giving it serious consideration. Here’s why.

Selig proposes to make changes to MLB postseason

Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has promised some changes to the current format – more specifically the sluggish pace – of the MLB postseason. The argument is pretty clear. The MLB regular season schedule is an every day affair; but the MLB playoffs schedule resembles more of an NBA or NHL schedule. The World Series champion New York Yankees played a 162-game schedule in 180 days then played 15 playoff games in 31 days. That’s a drastic change to what the players and their bodies were used to. The Yankees and the Angels also had four days off between the ALDS and ALCS after each team swept their respective opponents.
