Orioles Dismantled In Doubleheader

The Orioles didn’t have their running shoes on for both games of this doubleheader, but they best wear them afterwards, because after two demoralizing losses like this they shouldn’t want to play in Baltimore for a week. After losing a record breaking loss of 30-3 in game one, the Orioles lost again 9-7 to the Texas Rangers. Perhaps not as flashy a game as the first, but then again how could it be. In the 7th it looked as though the Orioles could take one of these two games, but the Rangers would have none of that. Michael Young, who like the fan who went to get a hot dog during the Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglass fight, missed all the action in game one with no RBI’s. Well he was the key to game two’s victory, hitting a single to right field that would drive in a run against Jim Hoey. Hoey, unlike 3 relievers in game one, actually did NOT give up 7+ runs. The Orioles are now 17 games behind first place in the AL east, and are showing no signs of slowing up. Baltimore is 8-12 for the month of August. The month where the kids go back to school cannot come fast enough for them.
The Orioles were never on a “Hot streak” this year, but whatever momentum they had was just snapped by game one’s loss. Game two’s loss couldn’t have helped, as they attempted to have a comeback like Green Day, but it wound up more like Sisquo’s. Marlon Byrd of the Rangers couldn’t have been happier.
“This is something freaky. You won’t see anything like this again for a long, long time. I am glad I was on this end of it,” said Byrd, who hit one of two Texas grand slams.
Baltimore will have to find a way to rebound from this game, tomorrow they face Boof Bonser and the Minnesota Twins, and send crafty veteran Steve Trachsel to the mound. At least if they don’t win tommorow, they’ll have a pitcher who stalls several times to look back runners and throw over to first base.
