i-Station Traveller

Logic3 has come up with what they claim to be the iPhone’s first speaker system. In black gloss with silver trim, the i-Station Traveller measures 170 mm across, has a 4 watt output, and 35 mm neodymium drivers. It works with your phone vertically and horizontally, and comes with adapter and four AAA batteries. The speakers will be available for £29.99 (~$59.40) through retailers or Logic3’s online store. Because the i-Station is compatible with other media players through its 3.5 mm jack, it begs the question, which came first, the iPhone or the i-Station?

Bumblebee Transforms Your Tunes

Transformer SpeakerTransformer Connection

No sooner do we tell you about an MP3 player, dock, and earbuds made into Transformers than Brando lets us know that they now have a Transformer Speaker for your iPod or MP3 player. Bumblebee mixes beats with your music and will even light up and dance. Record up to one minute of music for play on this innovative gadget which comes at a size of 250 x 190 x 100 mm, weighs about 900g, and will set you back $58.90. The real question remains, though, that if you hook the Bumblebee up to the Music Label Soundwave will they fight or merely morph?

Bleeding Edge TV 146: Portable Sound Laboratories iMainGo

Portable Sound Laboratories makes the iMainGo, a portable iPod speaker and case. It runs on four AAA batteries, delivering up to 30 hours of power, and even has an alarm mode built right in to the unit. Aside from providing fairly decent sound on the go, it also protects the iPod from sratches and drop damage since it’s fairly thick. It fits every iPod ever made, and works across the board. Notice, they mention it will fit the new iPod that comes out in February. That’s this month. Nevertheless, the iMainGo is available for $69.95.

CES 2007: Avega Aios Networked Audio Platform

Description Avega Systems was at CES Unveiled tonight, showing off their Aios Networked Audio Platform. The concept is simple and eloquent: Wi-fi enabled speakers that allow for synchronized playback of music or any other audio source, throughout your house. It sounds a bit like Sonos, and it has its similarities. However, the Aios system is a hardware platform, and Avega won’t be manufacturing their own speaker systems. Instead, they’re working with several different speaker manufacturers, and you’ll likely see Aios-capable speakers in retail channels by mid- this year. Better yet? They say that you’ll see two- and four-speaker sets in the sub $200 range.

The Aios platform includes software that allows you to configure your Aios speakers. The system is intuitive—if you add speakers to an existing setup, the software will detect them and let you create a profile for them. Each speaker attaches to the network with its own IP address, and elects a “leader.” One of the points that stand out with the Aios system is the incredibly low latency—under 5 ms, which allows for distributed real time DVD playback and gaming, along with some innovative UPnP capabilities, that allow for streaming audio through other devices, like your cell phone, without an active PC on the network.

Some very cool things to look for, and hopefully a relatively affordable, customizable and easily expandable distributed audio solution for your house.

Amina AIW5 In-Wall Loudspeaker

AminaAIW5loudspeakersTalk about getting plastered! NXT has announced the US debut of Amina Technology Ltd’s In-wall loudspeakers. With a combination of high definition audio reproduction and some serious designing, these 16” speakers can be placed within any wood or metal stud-work wall. Sounds are recreated in a less directional, more evenly based way than traditional cone speakers so that no matter where you sit, you get the same great sound as everyone else.

The AIW5 can handle 80 watts of continuous power while generating 105 db of sound after applying plaster. Check with Amina for pricing and special sizing. The loudspeakers will be formally introduced at Denver’s CEDIA Expo 2006 starting September 13. In the meantime, think about all that room you will have for your next party.
