Britney Spears Upset by Court Claims
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Television, Legal Issues, Meltdowns, Rumors,
Britney Spears is upset by Sam Lutfi's recent court claims.
The X Factor judge's former manager is suing her parents for defamation and during the trial he has claimed Britney was addicted to drugs when he managed her but the singer, who has gotten her life back together following a much-publicised breakdown in 2008, is upset by his revalations.
"Over the past four years you'd hear Britney's name and the first thing you'd think of was shaved head, psych hold, umbrella. But she got her life straightened out and now you think music, glamour, that big smile. The court case couldn't have come at a worse time," a source said.
Britney's friends are also worried about the star having to relive her past troubles. "She's long battled mental health issues so to be reminded of this time in her life, when she almost died, is devastating. No one should have to relive what she went through," the insider added.

Weekend Reading: Marvel Comics, Combat Jacks, Rob Liefeld & Star Trek
Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Movies, Reviews, Marvel Comics,
First off, smart thoughts on the state of various elements of the comics industry - retail, Marvel, 24 Hour Comics Day - from Tom Spurgeon at The Comics Reporter.
Bleeding Cool has the story announcing Rob Liefeld’s latest retirement from comics. And then moments later says he’s back.
Here’s a nice review of Mark McKenna’s new indy comic, Combat Jacks. “While McKenna might be known as a great inker, he is certainly a surprisingly good writer too. The story and dialogue of Combat Jacks is quite enjoyable, making me wish there were more comics like this sadly rare done-in-one sci-fi/horror story.”
Who was the mysterious Marvel Comics creator known as Kevin Banks?

Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy Split
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Break-ups, Rumors,
Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy have reportedly split up.
The "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" hitmaker - who has dated a host of Hollywood hunks in the past including Taylor Lautner and Jake Gyllenhaal - are said to have amicably broken up "a while ago," but there are "no hard feelings" between the pair.
"They quietly parted ways a while ago. It was just a distance thing. No hard feelings. They're fine," a source told Us Weekly.
Taylor is not thought to have seen Conor, who is the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the late Mary Kennedy, for more than a month as the 22-year-old singer has been busy promoting her fourth studio album Red, which was released on Monday.
"It's been over a month since they've even seen each other. With her promotion for Red, she has no time off until the end of the year," the friend added.
The Walking Dead: Season 3 So Far!
Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Reviews, Television, Image Comics, Marvel Comics,

Of all the great horror icons - Frankenstein's monster, vampires, mummies and Black Lagoon creatures - my favorites are zombies.
I was a kid when I discovered that comics were forbidden to use the word "zombie" if they wanted the Comics Code Authority's Seal of Approval (so Marvel revived an old Robert E. Howard word "Zuvembie" as a workaround). So it should be no surprise that I’ve loved me some Walking Dead ever since the first comic appeared on the stands. I’m a sucker for horror comics and it hit me at just the right time. Also, Kirkman was telling his horrific story in a very intriguing way - bad stuff was happening, characters you liked were going to die, and it was hard to peg just where it was all going.

How to make homemade butter (recipe!)
Posted by Taylor Peterson Categories: How To, Kitchen Gadgets, Recipes, Dairy, Organic, Paleo,

This weekend we purchased a KitchenAid Professional 5 mixer. I have wanted one of these mixers for years, but they're expensive and I didn’t want to spend the money. As it turns out, we purchased this used on Craigslist for $130 (which excites me enough to add it to this post.) It was originally listed for $200 (and retails for over $400,) and I'm very proud to have negotiated (with some assistance) to the final price.
After we got the mixer and brought it home, we felt like we needed to immediately start using it due to the excitement. However, we needed to do some shopping and didn't have a lot of time right then. I remembered that we had some heavy cream in the refrigerator that Andru purchased for our coffee. We normally follow a Paleo diet and this cream, from grass fed cows, is an acceptable part of the program. That said, this month I'm following the Whole30 program, and that doesn't allow any dairy except butter from grass fed cows. I knew butter that butter is made by churning cream, but I thought for sure there was more to it than that.

Apple iPad (4th generation): FaceTime HD, Lightning connector, A6X chip, $499
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds,

We all expected the iPad mini to be announced today, but not many people figured we would also get a new, 4th generation iPad. However, that's exactly what happened, as Apple strayed from its usual yearly update cycle, announcing a new full-sized iPad just six months after the last update. So, what's changed with the new iPad? For starters, it now packs in a new A6X processor, which Apple claims makes the new tablet twice as fast as its predecessor. It also brings a new FaceTime HD front camera, the new image processor technology that debuted on the iPhone 5, dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, and more LTE connectivity (including Sprint's network.) Last, but not least, the iPad also picks up the new Lightning connector, eliminating the 30-pin dock connector from all of Apple's current products.
Pricing remains the same across the board, so you can get the 4th generation iPad for $499 for the 16GB, $599 for 32GB, and $699 for 64GB. If you want an LTE model, just add $130 on top of those prices. The 4th generation iPad will go on sale on November 2nd, and you can pre-order one this Friday.
Be sure to check out all of the news from today's iPad mini event!
Apple announces new, redesigned iMac
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop,
During this morning's iPad mini event, Apple unveiled the brand new, redesigned iMac. The new model is super-thin, just 5mm thin at the edges, constructed using something called "friction stir welding" to fuse together the aluminum pieces. The display is laminated to the glass, similar to what you find on iOS devices. You get the same screen sizes, with the iMac coming in at 21.5-inch 1080p and 27-inch 2,560 x 1,400 models. Apple also announced a new Apple Fusion drive option, which is basically a hybrid drive that OS X manages for you. The OS and apps live on the flash storage portion, and all your documents and other apps get loaded onto the HDD portion. As you use and launch them, things get moved to the faster SSD portion on the fly.
The 21.5-inch model will ship in November for $1,299 with a 2.7GHz Core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and with a 1TB hard drive. The 27-inch model starts at $1,799 for a 2.9GHz Core i5, and that one won't ship until December.

iPad mini: 7.9-inch display, A5 chip, LTE optional, $329
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds,

Apple has announced the long awaited iPad mini. It sports a 7.9-inch display at 1024 x 768 resolution, matching up with the iPad 2. The new iPad mini is just 7.2mm thin, and weighs in at .68 pounds. It features the same anodized edges that you'll find on the iPhone 5. On the inside you'll find the A5 processor, 5-megapixel rear camera that records in 1080p, and a FaceTime HD camera up front. With the 7.9-inch display, you get 35% more screen real estate than you'd find on the 7-inch Kindle Fire or Nexus 7 tablets, which is likely what Apple is hoping you realize since they are charging quite a bit more for the iPad mini than competing 7-inch tablets. You'll be able to get a Black & Slate or White & Silver iPad mini starting at $329 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model, and the price jumps up to $429 for 32GB, and $529 for 64GB. Want an LTE model? Those come at an extra $130, so you are looking at $459 for 16GB LTE, $559 for 32GB LTE, and $659 for 64GB LTE. You'll be able to pre-order the iPad mini beginning on October 26, and they'll be delivered (and available in stores) on November 2.

Hulk Hogan’s Sex Tape to Remain on Gawker
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Sports, Television, Legal Issues, Sex Tapes,
Hulk Hogan's sex tape will remain on Gawker. The former wrestler has lost his bid for a temporary restraining order against the website - which is currently showing a one minute and 40 second snippet of his intimate encounter with Heather Clem - but a hearing on his request for an injunction will take place on November 8.
According to E! News, U.S. District Court Judge James D. Whittemore said, "Upon consideration, Plaintiff has failed to show that immediate and irreparable injury, loss or damage will result before Defendants can be heard in opposition."
Hulk, whose real name is Terry Bollea, is seeking $100 million in damages from Gawker as well as unspecified damages from his former best friend Bubba the Love Sponge and Bubba's ex-wife Heather for recording him without permission.
The "TNA IMPACT Wrestling" star's lawyer said the actions of those involved in leaking the tape were "illegal, outrageous, and exceeded the bounds of human decency." The lawyers were also calling for any copies of the tape to be handed over to them to be destroyed forever.
