USA Network Cancels ‘The Dead Zone’, ‘4400’

Anthony Michael Hall The Dead ZoneTV Guide is exclusive reporting today that the plugs have been pulled on both and Dead, which had been on the the for six seasons, had its last airing on September 16.  This was also the same date of 4400’s Season Four finale.

Although a reason was not stated, creator Scott Peters acknowledged the cancellation of The 4400 on the show’s message board.  Meanwhile, fans of The Dead Zone have been working on their own online petition.

While I admittedly had not watched either series, I was actually bummed to hear the news.  How could I not support any program that had Farmer Ted (a.k.a. ) as its lead?  And I only just learned today that was (supposedly) set in Seattle.  Just that fact alone should give the program a permanent time slot on USA’s schedule.

Keep Farmer Ted!  Keep 4400!  Go Seahawks!

My Top Five:  Ugly (Yet Funny) Men

Will FerrellLast night I stumbled upon an episode of the and found myself sucked in by the thought-provoking topics.  For those who have not seen the game show yet, the concept is fairly simple.  The contestants have to guess (within a certain range) how a sampling of Americans answered a particular question.  For example:  “What percentage of Americans think Elvis is still really alive?”

Okay, I actually made that last example up.  But one real question from last night had me thinking:  “What percentage of women said that they would date an ugly guy because they found him funny?”  (Or something like that).  Unfortunately, I don’t remember the actual answer because my mind started trailing off.  I quietly wondered:

‘Which ‘ugly’ actors could I see dating simply because they made me laugh?’

The End Score Report 004: NFL Draft, JaMarcus Russell, Supersonics Leave Seattle, Alex Rodriguez

In this edition of the End Score Report, Dan Devone gives his take on the latest news from the world of sports:

  • NFL Draft: Publications, networks, etc. spend the entire year crunching the numbers, and most of the time they aren’t right, even on the #1 pick.
  • We discuss the draft. JaMarcus Russell should be the #1 draft pick, not Brady Quinn.
  • SuperSonics leave Seattle, possibly heading to Las Vegas if NBA betting disappears.
  • A-Rod out of his mind and going bananas with the New York Yankees - 14 home runs in a month.

Agree or disagree? Let us know your thoughts on the End Score forums.

Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is Back, and Much Much Bigger

Penny Arcade Expo LogoWith E3 cancelled (or at least significantly altered and shrunken), and an uncertain new “E for All” expo taking its first baby steps, THE gaming convention for the hardcore is shaping up to be next year’s Penny Arcade Expo, and the organizers seem to know this…

This year, PAX will move from its humble roots in Bellevue, WA to the larger and significantly more prominent Washington Trade and Convention Center. The event will be held from August 26th-28th and expects to see about 30,000 gamers converging on the Center as one sweaty, black-T-shirted mass.

It should be interesting to see how many developers and publishers decide to exhibit this year, given that this is now THE major venues for gaming companies to meet with their consumers.

Microsoft Goes Viral With The Vanishing Point, And We Are In It

Okay guys, something is definitely up at Microsoft as far as it pertains to the launch of Windows Vista. It looks like they are putting quite a bit of their marketing budget behind a very “outside the box” way of spreading the buzz - and we aren’t talking about full-page spreads in PC Magazine. Earlier today, DHL dropped off a ridiculously large box at the Gear Live headquarters in Seattle, WA. We opened it up, and found a brand new, Windows Vista-based Media Center PC. This particular one is made by Velocity Micro, and it’s loaded to the max.

Now, normally, this is nothing out of the ordinary, as we tend to get a multitude of deliveries each and every week that we review, unbox, and give our overall impressions on - but this was different, as a fairly cryptic note was included in the box that read:
