Taylor Swift Comes Back to Beat Britney

Has the Britney Spears hype already died down?

Just one week after debuting at #1, the pop princess has already been dethroned. Unfortunately, Circus wasn’t topped by a new entry. Spears was actually surpassed by Taylor Swift.

Fearless, which has been out since November 11, jumped 23% over the last seven days. Swift sold 249,000 units besting Spears by 49,000. (Circus fell 60% from last week’s 505,000 achievement.) Beyonce’s release came in third during this round.

Huge First Week for Dark Knight DVD

Although you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t already seen The Dark Knight on the big screen, there are many who would still like to watch it at home as well.

In just one week, the Warner Bros. film has set itself up to be the hottest DVD title of the year. The blockbuster earned nearly $1 billion during its first theatrical run and has now sold 13.5 million discs worldwide. The figure includes 1.7 million Blu-ray units - a record number for that format.

The Batman sequel is expected to officially surpass Iron Man - the current #1 seller - within the next week.

Come next month, Dark Knight will be returning to the cineplexes as well.

We typically reserve the Holiday Gift Guide for items that you should be able to get your hands on throughout the shopping season, but we felt that this Lost Season 1-3 DVD deal on Amazon was way too good to pass up. For today only, you can get the first three seasons of Lost on DVD for just $58.99. That is a savings of 67%, or $120.98 off the regular price of $179.97. That is ridiculous. Study Finds 128 Million To Shop Black Friday

You know we are trying to get you the best Black Friday deals this week, but will it be worth the effort? BIGresearch did a study for the National Retail Federation and determined that there will be 5% less partaking this year. That still means 128 million others to contend with. The report also stated that 49 million know that they are going to cave this weekend, while 79 million shoppers need to be assured that they will get a good deal to battle the crowds.

Amazon selling HD DVDs for $7.99 each

Okay, we know that some of us put all our stock into HD DVD, going all out on movies and players, only to be burned by the eventual Blu-ray victory. However, that also means that HD DVD player owners can enjoy some steep discounts on media for the failed format. As an example, Amazon is currently selling 99 HD DVD titles for $7.99. Seriously, perfectly good movies like The Bourne Supremacy, Army of Darkness, and the like, all for $7.99. Meanwhile, those of us buying Blu-ray are doing so at $20 or more a pop! See? Doesn’t that make you feel better about your HD DVD investment? We didn’t think so.

Taylor Swift Fearless The Amazon MP3 Store is a fantastic alternative to something like iTunes since all the music available is DRM-free and compatible with just about any portable media player under the sun. They also have fantastic deals from time to time. Today you can grab the new Taylor Swift album, Fearless, for the low price of $3.99. Yes, I’m talking about the album that came out this morning. Netflix to Cease Selling Used DVDs

Netflix Picks Netflix has decided to stop selling previously viewed DVDs. Some are as low as $5.99 and include such titles at that price as “Casino Royale,” “Into the Wild,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “American Gangster,” and “Spiderman 3.” Of course there will also be suggestions according to your previous favorites. After November 30, they will focus on simply renting. That’s fine with us. We love the fact that we can watch a film as often or as much as we want and not have extra DVDs taking up space.

TiVo HD refurbs selling for $179
