Prince and Lady Gaga Writing for Gatsby Soundtrack

The Great GatsbyPrince and Lady Gaga are writing songs for The Great Gatsby soundtrack.

The "Purple Rain" hitmaker and the "Poker Face" star reportedly approached director Baz Luhrmann about working on the musical accompaniments to his forthcoming film - which stars Leonardo DiCaprio Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher - cast member Adelaide Clemens has claimed.

"They have some new music that's going to be added to the film... Some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film, and I don't think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door," Adelaide said.

However, Adelaide refused to explain any further, so it is unclear whether the pair will submit songs separately or together: "I don't know if I'm allowed to say that."

Muse Explore Electronica and Funk

MuseMuse were inspired by Prince on The 2nd Law.

The British rock legends have embraced electronic music as well as funk on their new album, taking them back to their very earliest influences. "Yep, funk! What are we doing? But 'Panic Station' is a track that reminds me of my youth. Prince, Primus and Michael Jackson all influenced that song," drummer Dominic Howard said.

Frontman Matt Bellamy took a new approach with the track "Unsustainable" and despite many people being skeptical, he is pleased with the end results. "For 'Unsustainable' I wanted to write the idea electronically and when we came to record it, we did it with real, organic instruments and got a real orchestra in. We were trying to see if real instruments could make a sound like electronica. A lot of people were sceptical about it but it works."

VIDEO: Paul McCartney, Prince Hit the Talk Shows

Thursday was an exciting day musically in the talk show scene.

Early in the day, Prince made a surprise appearance on The View – much to the surprise of the audience and cohost Sherri Shepherd. The singer, who stopped by to promote his Welcome 2 America tour, came to deliver tickets – but walked away with an awkward confession from Sherri.

“You don’t understand, Prince. I’ve wanted to make love to you my whole life,” Shepherd admitted after trying to take his gloves. (He, understandably, left quickly thereafter.)

Prince to Headline at Glastonbury

PrincePrince is set to headline next year's Glastonbury festival.

The "Purple Rain" hitmaker has reportedly taken one of the top slots at the UK music festival -- one of Europe's largest -- with U2 and Coldplay also being lined up by organizer Michael Eavis.

"Michael was very keen to get the line-up sorted early and is over the moon at securing such massive acts. He is a huge fan of Prince and has been trying to nab him for years," a source told The Sun. "The fact it's been tied up so quickly is a big, but welcome, shock."

Rockers U2 were forced to pull out of their first-ever appearance at Glastonbury earlier this year after frontman Bono injured his back. Cartoon-led pop band Gorillaz stepped in to replace the band as headliners at the last minute.

Kings of Leon Not Feeling Glee-ful

Kings of Leon

Coldplay may have finally relented and let their songs be used on Glee, but it sounds like Kings of Leon will be holding their ground.

According to the group, they have denied requests to have their music used on the FOX series “apparently everybody loves.”

Although it’s unclear why KOL made that decision (or why their songs have been heard on others shows like Gossip Girl), it’s not the first time the band has turned someone down.

Matthew Williamson Credits Career Highlight to Prince

Prince performs at Matthew Williamson's 10th anniversary showBritish fashion designer Matthew Williamson‘s career highlight was Prince performing at his show.

The highly-regarded fashion designer says that the most rewarding moment of his working life was being asked by the eccentric pop star if he could sing during his renowned 2007 catwalk show, which received a standing ovation.

“Coming in at number one for me would be my 10th-anniversay show for Spring/Summer ‘08. Just 48 hours before kickoff, my PR received a phone call from Prince’s people, saying he wanted to perform at my show.”

As excited as he was, the 37-year-old designer admits that he was unprepared for the pop star’s unusual demands: “He wanted a stage to be built and we were told he needed a white room backstage. We had a black room, but, apparently, he wouldn’t go into that. So we literally staple-gunned white over black fabric. On the day, his manager called to say he was still in bed at London’s Dorchester hotel with an hour to go. Then, just when the show was about to happen, I saw Prince walking in. There was no rehearsal. He just went and sat in the front row. And when his track came on, up he got with his mike, and his girls came out and did their performance down the skinny little runway.”

Daily Snark : Topless pics and an outing nobody cares about

Brit should just cover up
The photographer responsible for those topless Britney Spear’s pics says that the singer knew about the pics and actually requested them. In a bid to help the star continue to clean up her crazy act, Daddy Dearest was trying to block the topless photos from hitting the Internet.

So it’s okay to let your daughter star as a topless stripper in her video as long as her boobies don’t show?  That’s what, Rule #2 of how to be a great Dad?

Melody staying catty
Looks like at least one Pussycat Dolls refuses to keep quiet about trouble within the group and is quite happy to keep her claws out.

Melody Thornton is once again bitching about fellow Doll Nicole saying, “Nicole’s always had extra things going on as opposed to the rest of us, but we have aspirations as well. It’s definitely a huge misconception that we are just chilling and happy to just be members of the group.”

So, does this mean that the band could be splitting up?  Noppers. Thorton also said, “I don’t think we’re breaking up any time soon. As long as this thing is moving, we’re all still here.”

In other words?  As long as people are dumb enough to buy their crappy music, they’ll be around.

Rocker in need of a walker
Prince is in need of a double hip replacement, but refuses due to religious beliefs.

Too bad your religion didn’t forbid wearing 9 inch heels, eh Prince?  Then maybe you wouldn’t need the surgery.

Just because he won’t be moving far doesn’t mean can’t throw himself a party.

Starting next Monday, a list of celebrities will be stopping by to offer their goodbyes. The weeklong “farewell” will cap off Leno’s 17-year run at 11:30 PM.

On May 25, Mel Gibson will kick off the celebration with singer Dwight Yoakam. This will be the Lethal Weapon star’s first television interview since news of his impending divorce broke. (I wonder if he will be addressing rumors his girlfriend’s pregnancy?)

A Triple Dose of Prince in 2009

PrinceIf singing “1999” seems a bit too nostalgic for 2009, you will soon have a larger Prince catalogue to choose from.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 50-year-old singer announced that was preparing to release three new albums over the current year. MPLSOUND, which has been described as “electro-flavored,” features Q-Tip on one of the tracks. “Guitar-driven” Lotus Flower includes “Dreamer,” a cover of “Crimson & Clover.” Then there’s Elixir, a collaboration with his latest protege, Bria Valente.

Since he has no plans to work through a record label, Prince said is currently in talks with a major retailer to distribute the discs. Fans would also be able to purchase the music in digital form through the artist’s web site.
