American Idol: What Ramiele Had to Say
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
Diminutive American Idol contestant Ramiele Malubay displayed more than the usual elimination emotion, but this endearing contestant will be remembered for more than her tearful exit. What did Ramiele have to say about her exit, her future plans, and her relationships with fellow Idols?
First things first, Malubay will do the Idol tour this summer. But when that’s all over, Ramiele plans to work toward her own career goals (possibly going to the Philippines to sing) and says she will move in with another AI contestant when the whole dog-and-pony show is over.

New Kids on the Today Show
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Television, Where Are They Now?,
Sorry, ladies. There was no actual ‘performance’ from the New Kids on the Block this morning. (You’ll have to wait until May 16th for that.) But here’s your chance to see if the men at least physically held up over the years.
American Idol: Another One Bites the Dust
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,

The American Idol contestants were all smiles as they performed the Dolly Parton hit “9 to 5,” but tensions seethed just below the surface as this group was quickly shuffled backstage to await their respective fates. The routine was peppy and poppy, with the singers gathering around the judges’ island to finish the number. Joy was short-lived, however, as attentions quickly turned to talk of elimination.
Idol very cleverly turns information which might take less than a minute to deliver (“hey, by the way, you just got kicked off the show”) into an hour-long spectacle replete with stage performances, video clips, and of course the endless cross-promotions. Elimination action is always very cleverly placed, little tidbits leading up to what is supposed to be a dramatic end. Were you shocked?

Mariah Carey Edges Past Elvis
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music,
Although I knew this day would eventually come, I still have a hard time believing it’s finally happened. Mariah Carey has just now surpassed The King.
Mariah’s latest single, Touch My Body, just became the Number One song on Billboard’s Hot 100. This achievement gives the 38-year-old singer a total of eighteen #1 hits on those charts, edging her right past Elvis Presley. (He was holding reign at 17.) With a few more years under her belt, she may one day pass The Beatles as well. (The Fab Four clock in at 20 toppers.)
While I will fully admit that I like many of Carey’s songs, I find it strange to even think of her musical library being in the same realm as those two legends. Will her songs eventually stand the test of time? Which one of her singles could possibly compare to something like Let It Be or Can’t Help Falling in Love?
Carey’s next album, E=MC2, will be released on April 16.

American Idol: The Band and The Singers Collide
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
For myself and the thirteen other people who watched The Next Great American Band, FOX has come up with a very special cross-promotion. Or a very self-serving one.
The Clark Brothers, that charming boy band who managed to win the reality competition The Next Great American Band, will soon be appearing on the American Idol stage. This was a summer show meant to fill the Idol void created every single May, a ratings hole FOX has long been desperate to fill. Using a very familiar set up and some familiar faces, Band could have been another great big hit. But someone at FOX scheduled the show to air on Fridays and the whole bloody thing was a terrible flop - but honestly, the music on the show was really quite good. I was blown away by bands like Light of Doom and Dot Dot Dot, and somewhat less impressed with the country/bluegrass Clark Brothers. But to each their own.
Anyway, this trio will appear on stage to deliver more country right into the American Idol jugular. I’ll say it again: a rocker has never won Idol. A country girl has.

American Idol: Dollywood and Hollywood Combine
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,

American Idol kicked the night off with an unbelievable April Fool’s joke just for fun, before it got around to the business of honoring mentor Dolly Parton. I will say, however, that I think Simon Cowell would be fabulous on The Moment of Truth - and ratings would be through the roof.
Singer/actress Dolly Parton is a superstar, award-winning and top-selling, both in the box office and in the recording studio. But she’s still a southern girl with charm, admits to wearing false eyelashes and even wigs, and maintains that endearing girlish giggle no matter how many years pass. What’s not to love about Dolly? As a mentor, she proved sweet and encouraging with all the contestants. Were the judges just as kind?

Lady Liberty Sings
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Music,
In this election year, we find more patriotic gadgets than we will ever actually need. The Musical Statue of Liberty is no exception, but at least this one is non-partisan. Draped in the American flag and made of hand-painted vinyl, the mini-statue not only looks tacky, but press her button and her torch keeps time to the thrilling tune of “New York, New York.” Standing all of 10-inches, she requires 2 AA batteries (not included) and carries a MSRP of $11.98.

New Kids to Reunite on Today Show
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Talk Shows, NBC, Gossip,

After months of speculation, it looks as if it is now finally official. The New Kids on the Block are reuniting.
Yes, yes - we’ve already seen their website and heard a snippet from one of their possible new songs. But until all five boys are together once again in front of the cameras, it just doesn’t seem real. Ya know?
Well, the matter will be settled once and for all this Friday morning when the gang - Danny, Donnie, Joey, Jonathan and Jordan - make an appearance on the Today show. Although it’s unclear from People magazine’s report whether the men will be singing and/or just standing in their ‘courtyard’, I’ll be sure to set my Tivo regardless. (As much as I would like to see them, I refuse to get up that early.)

Disney to Get Serious Musical Competition: How Spectacular
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Gossip,
Disney can’t control the market on teen/tween musical movies for much longer, not if kids-based Nickelodeon has anything to say about it.
Spectacular, a new musical comedy set in high school, will begin shooting on April 21 - move over, High School Musical. Newcomers Tammin Sursok, Nolan Funk, and Simon Curtis will star in the film, along with Zoey 101’s Victoria Justice. The film will focus on the school choir and one preppy, pretty female student in particular. A new rock-n-roller joins the group, however unwittingly, and soon enough musical romance is borne between them. Sounds a little familiar…but I can’t quite recall which musical movie plot this might be similar to. Hmmm.
Nick’s high school musical movie is not the classic, cookie-cutter musical film. The numbers in this flick are performance-based rather than random singing insertions. Think more Dreamgirls and less My Fair Lady. Right now, the Viacom-owned cable network isn’t planning on any sequels - though there are contractual options open for just such an occurrence.
