Eminem Scheduled for MTV Movie Awards

Eminem

So Eminem’s already released a new single, debuted a tabloid-worthy video and appeared in public at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. What could possibly be next for the Oscar-winning rapper? The performance.

On May 31, Eminem will mark his musical return to the stage at the 2009 MTV Movie Music Awards. The 8 Mile star was the first person - outside of host - announced for the 18th annual event.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed which song he will be performing, it wouldn’t be unlike the network to park Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears in the front row for an awkward “We Made You” number.

The awards ceremony will come almost two weeks after the debut of Eminem’s new album, .

Rihanna and Chris Brown

Cable TV is capitalizing on the scandalous post-Grammy headlines that paint Chris Brown as a woman-beater and a victim. They were two young, hot popstars. Now, they’re young, even hotter tabloid fodder. Want to see one version of this relationship?

Confessing to a New Love: Teen Idol Review

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Gossip,

VH1’s premiered last night, one of many shows to be unveiled in the next two weeks. What sets this reality apart from the pack? Is it Executive Producer Scott Baio, who faded from 80s glory to find a new life in reality TV? Is it the addition of no-nonsense Jason Hervey, who seems to be part man-of-all-work, part peacemaker?

No, it’s the hunk-filled cast. They may be has-beens, but some of these former teen idols are still looking pretty fine. In the series opener, Baywatch babe Jeremy Jackson was the first to arrive at the palatial home that is to be shared by the seven participants. He was greeted by pictures of each cast member in his heyday, a visual reminder of fame days now gone by.

The Hills: Were You Surprised?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, MTV, The Hills, Gossip,

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt Though the leading promos seemed to promise otherwise, Heidi Montag did not become Mrs. Spencer Pratt on season finale.

The couple was all set to marry in the Beverly Hills courthouse…until Pratt backed out of the whole thing.

He had a little encouragement to this end from Stephanie, who told him, “You can’t do this. She’s going to regret this. I think this is wrong.”

Not the marriage, mind you, just the wedding. You see, Heidi wants a big wedding. The show has been making a big deal out of this.

And so, Spencer called it off. “I just want to give you the wedding of your dreams that you have been talking about for three years. I’ll deal with it. It’s worth it to be with you the rest of my life. We’ll do it the way you want.”

Queue the white doves, long limos and three hundred guests - the big wedding would make for a great season-opener. Hey, that’s probably what MTV is thinking, too.

Twilight’s Taylor Lautner Talks About Possible New Moon Replacement

UPDATE: Taylor will be keeping his job after all.

If Taylor Lautner’s really at risk of losing his job, the actor is not going to go down without a fight. Or at least an extra push-up.

In an interview last week with MTV, the 16-year-old addressed rumors that he may be left out of the upcoming sequel. According to a recent report in Entertainment Weekly, the studio was looking to find someone else to tackle Jacob Black’s beefier role in New Moon. Since that time, Michael Copon (Scorpion King 2) and Ben Barnes’ (Prince Caspian) names have been thrown out as possible replacements. (Copon has even gone so far as to imply on his own Facebook page that he was already given the role.)

I Confess: I Love Old Teen Idols

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Cable, MTV, Gossip, Rumors, Video,

I usually shy away from reality projects featuring Scott Baio (not falling for that one again), but I just may have to make an exception for VH1. The network will soon be premiering its brand-new Confessions of a Teen Idol, which features seven former hotties who all share the same mission: grab the brass ring.

You know, again.

They each had their shot at fame and some even spent a little time at the top. But Hollywood is capricious, and soon enough all of these men found themselves on the swift path to being has-beens. But VH1 - and apparently, - thinks they could be shining stars once more. Or at the very least, reality stars. Here’s the funniest part: Baio is part host, part mentor to these would-be famous-again celebs.

I know, it’s a total riot.

Tom Cruise…and The Hills?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Talk Shows, MTV, The Hills, Video,

In one of those bizarre celebrity pairings, three time Academy Award nominee recently sat down with MTV reality star Spencer Pratt. Er…sort of.

Cruise apparently stopped to chat on The Hills After Show (seriously, yes, there’s an after show) and ended up talking to a picture of (who I guess is way too cool to actually attend the after show). The famously married movie star offered up some pearls of wisdom to the newly-married TV personality.

Layoffs for MTV, Paramount and NBC Universal

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: MTV, NBC, News,

NBC Universal logoNot even those reporting on the nation’s massive layoffs are immune from them.

Today, continued the downsizing of its worldwide workforce. Hoping to reduce its upcoming budget by $500 million, the company began laying off approximately 500 staff members - including people from the NBC News division - earlier this week. That number equates to approximately 3% of the total corporation. Sources claim that several correspondents have been cut while Donny Deutsch’s CNBC Show, The Big Idea, has been put on hiatus. (Apparently it’s getting harder to find successful entrepreneur stories at this time.)

Meanwhile, Variety reports that 300 staffers from MTV Networks and 100 employees from also became casualties of the economic downturn.
