MTV to Showcase More Teen Pregnancy
In what I truly believe to be one of the worst reality series ideas ever, MTV showcases young moms-to-be. Not that 16 and Pregnant isn’t interesting, captivating and becoming highly popular. But it could also compel young women to get knocked up on purpose. The cable network appeals to a huge demographic of young teens…and now, all they have to do to become reality stars is have a baby. The first season of the series ends this week, but already MTV is looking ahead to the future with a second season.

LEGO Rock Band hands-on
Posted by Alex Lifschitz Categories: E3, Music, PlayStation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360,
God, what a lonely-looking stand they had this game set up on. Look at that. Really?
When it comes down to brass tacks, at least to me, Rock Band and LEGO go together like peanut butter and chitin. After being revealed to discerning eyes during Dan Teasdale’s GDC talk, the game has garnered some attention from puzzled, clueless journos like myself. LEGO Rock Band is a game for the little’uns, principally, tooled to a younger age demographic and given a fresh coat of paint to keep the drooling cretins jamming away on modern pop hits. So if you’re coming in looking for some Pantera, you’ll be disappointed. But I digress.
Hit the jump for some impressions of LEGO: Rock Band.

Jessica Simpson’s Return to Reality
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, MTV, Gossip, Rumors,
Jessica Simpson will soon return to the MTV family. The songstress is scheduled to start filming for a VH1 reality series that focuses on being beautiful. The singer enjoyed four seasons several years ago with Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, a show which centered around Simpson and her then-husband Nick Lachey.
But now, she’ll be leading the cast all on her own. The Price of Beauty will give us a traveling Simpson, who tours the globe to chat with regular women as well as more well-known female personalities who belong to the beauty industry. She’ll look at fashions and explore beauty regimes, such as dieting fads. Filming is supposed to begin next month.

Real World Packs Bags for Washington D.C.
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, MTV,
A few weeks ago I said the Real Housewives franchise was coming dangerously close to becoming the next Real World. Who knew it was actually the other way around?
Weeks before the launch of Season 22, the producers of the MTV series announced their newest destination: Washington, D.C. That’s the same location Housewives will be hitting up next. Has President Obama started a trend?
“Young people have never been more engaged in what’s happening in this country and Washington, D.C., is the perfect place for The Real World cast to express their opinions and pursue their passions,” executive producer Jonathan Murray said in a statement.
Look for the nation’s capital edition to debut sometime in 2010. Meanwhile, Real World: Cancun premieres on June 24.

Paris Hilton Premieres Potential BFFs
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, MTV, Gossip,

It’s summer, and that can only mean one thing: Paris Hilton is hot to trot after a new crop of hero-worshiping reality contestants, all anxious to be her BFF…for one season, at least. Paris Hilton’s My New BFF has been renewed by MTV for a third season. This means, at least, that Paris won’t have to tolerate the winner of the show for very long.
But at the show’s Season 2 premiere, the winning contestant remains a far-away decision. First, it’s time to meet this group of Paris Hilton-loving hopefuls.

Confirmed: MTV’s Bruno Encounter with Eminem was Staged
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Cable, MTV, Gossip,
UPDATE: You can read Eminem’s reaction to the planned stunt here.
This might explain why MTV still has Eminem’s face cemented to their home page.
Even though an official confirmation has not been offered from either the rapper or the network, a behind-the-scenes source from the MTV Movie Awards has now addressed yesterday’s most talked-about moment. According to Scott Aukerman, Andy Samberg’s head writer, Sacha Baron Cohen’s cheeky encounter with Slim Shady was no accident.
“Yes, the Eminem-Bruno incident was staged. They rehearsed it at dress [rehearsal] and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show,” Scott wrote in his blog.
That clarification doesn’t make the situation any less gross…but it does make it that much funnier.

Paris Hilton’s BFF Chase Renewed
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, MTV, Features, Renewals,
“This season I made it like a sorority, the Paris sorority,” said Paris Hilton of the second season of her MTV show, Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, which premieres tomorrow. Though the heiress found a friend in Season 1 winner Brittany Flinkinger, and subsequently in the UK version of the show, she’s apparently still on the hunt.
Lil’ Kim, Kathy Griffin and a handful of Paris Hilton’s celebrity pals will make guest appearances on the show, which will renew her quest to find a pal among a dozen or more male and female contenders. Last season, Paris’s quest began with makeovers, challenges and very quick eliminations.

Samberg Spoofs Slumdog and Twilight in MTV Movie Awards Open
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Cable, MTV, Video,
If you’re anything like me, the MTV Movie Awards is painful waste of your time. The ceremony is only a step above the People’s Choice Awards (thanks to the caliber of celebrities), but equally as credible.
That said, Andy Samberg’s performance - and Bruno’s encounter with Eminem - made this year’s broadcast slightly easier to swallow. After watching him spoof several of the year’s most popular films (Twilight, Star Trek, Slumdog Millionaire, The Reader), check out Andy’s musical commentary on explosions after the jump.

UPDATE: You can read Eminem’s reaction to the planned stunt here.
What’s the best way to get on Eminem’s bad side? Well - if you’re Bruno, just get your naked rear in his face.
During tonight’s broadcast of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, actor Sacha Baron Cohen (promoting his movie about an Austrian fashionista) flew in from the rafters on on a high note…then descended toward the rapper’s low note. Needless to say, this prompted the musician and his crew to leave in disgust.
