White Nokia Lumia 900 launching April 22

Nokia Lumia 900 white

The Nokia Lumia 900 is launching on April 8, and AT&T, Microsoft, and Nokia are gonna do everything possible to make sure you know about the amazing deal you're getting for the 4G LTE Windows Phone device at $99 (and we agree--it is a steal.) That said, if you want the striking white model (shown above,) you're gonna have to wait a couple weeks extra. The white Lumia 900 won't launch until April 22, a full two weeks after the black and cyan models hit the streets. Sure, it's a delay, but it's nowhere near as long a wait as white iPhone 4 customers had to deal with!

Comcast Xfinity On Demand, HBO Go, MBL.tv now available on Xbox Live

Xfinity HBO Go Xbox Live

Finally, after a number of months, Xbox Live users now have access to Xfinity On Demand from Comcast, HBO Go, and MLB.tv. To get 'em, just head to the App Marketplace on your Xbox 360. All three apps require that you have access to, and pay for, the respective services. Comcast has announced that use of the Xfinity On Demand service will not count against a users data cap because the data is delivered over Comcast's private IP network, rather than the public Internet. It kind of makes sense, as Comcast is basically saying that the Xbox 360 is simply functioning as a cable box, but giving its own data preferential treatment does raise eyebrows as it pertains to Net Neutrality laws.

To use HBO Go, your cable service must be approved (sadly, the cable service we use at Gear Live HQ, Frontier, is not eligible) and you must subscribe to HBO service through your cable package.

Both Xfinity On Demand and HBO Go are available in the U.S., while MLB.tv can be accessed throughout North America.

nokia lumia 900 $99

This morning, AT&T announced that the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone will launch at just $99 on April 8th. This confirms the rumors that we've been hearing for over a month now, and puts a top-of-the-line, fantastic 4G LTE smartphone on the market at a price that all experts agree is a steal.

Seriously, with a two-year contract, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal on a smartphone. Windows Phone 7.5 is a great mobile operating system, the Lumia 900 is a beautiful device, and it's packing a great 4.3-inch display and 4G LTE speeds.

If you're gonna be looking for a new smartphone starting next month, do yourself a favor and at least research this phone. In fact, you can check it out in the video after the jump.

Sprint looking to roll out Windows Phone 8 LTE device?

Sprint-set-to-launch-windows-8-lte-phone

Sprint has recently announced that it plans on moving into the LTE market, finally recognizing that WiMAX isn't the place to be long-term. Now, don't get your hopes up of it launching anytime soon...you might want to sit back down and grab a cup of coffee and wait.

Sprint will be carrying a new LTE device powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8960 Snapdragon, however it remains a mystery as to which OEM will be producing the device. Our bet is that it will be Nokia, as Sprint is planning on adding a Windows Phone 8 device to its line up. Now given that info, since Windows 8 is set to release at the end of the year, we don’t except Sprint to roll out its LTE network until that timeframe, in limited markets.

Nokia Lumia 900 release pushed back to April

Nokia Lumia 900

March 18th was the set date for the Nokia Lumia 900, but due to technical difficulties, red tape, and all that jazz, the release date has been bumped back a bit to April 22nd, reports BGR. However, though the longer wait time may be disappointing to some, the price is definitely not. As stated earlier this year, the Lumia 900 will sell for $99 with a two-year contract. The only question that’s left to be answered in my mind, is will this phone be indestructible as the old Nokia brick phones? Time will tell when April rolls around and we’ll make sure to keep you posted, but for now just know that the best Windows Phone yet will be available in just over a month.

Making Halo 4: First Look Video

After months of development and secrecy, 343 Industries has released its first official 'ViDoc" explaining just a little bit of what they are working on for Halo 4. The video goes into detail about how the Master Chief looks with his upgraded suit and HUD, and also explain that the multiplayer for Halo 4 will be fairly independent from the campaign with newly designed multiplayer maps. This also goes on to explain that in multiplayer, instead of playing your campaign character, you are a completely new breed of Spartan, The Spartan IV. This, we can assume, will also give us a deeper look into the Halo Universe.

Right away in the ViDoc we notice that the Spartan model as well and the Battle Rifle have had a major overhaul and graphics update. The multiplayer, according to 343, will also give a reason as to why a Red Spartan should fight a Blue Spartan. We get a good look at two of the multiplayer maps throughout the video, one of which is “Warhouse”, an abandoned Military base with a giant mech in the middle that, while you play, is built. 343 stated that they want the player to feel completely submersed when they play the game, and go on to hint that the player will be able to manually open doors and even make jumps that would previously seem impossible in previous Halo games.

All of this news has come fast and will most likely be ushering more and more information from 343 Industries as the game gets closer to release.

Download the Windows 8 Consumer Preview right now

Windows 8 Consumer Preview download

Today Microsoft released the Windows 8 Consumer Preview to the world, and it's been the talk of the day. Why? Well, Windows 8 is a huge departure from everything that Windows has ever been, and at the same time, it's very different than what you'd expect from OS X as well. Sure, both Mountain Lion and Windows 8 are super touch-centric, but Microsoft truly decided to come up with some new, innovative, and different techniques for the next major version of Windows, and now anyone can give it a try. A word of warning though--this is a preview in every sense of the word. If you prefer, we can call it a beta. This isn't final software, so don't expect it to be all buttery smooth. Still wanna try it though? Yeah, we thought so. Head on over to Microsoft to download it!

Zune and Windows Live will die with the release of Windows 8

Zune and Windows Live killed in Windows 8

It looks like two Microsoft products are about to get killed off (or really, renamed) with the release of Windows 8. When the next major Windows OS launches, that'll be the end of the Zune and Windows Live brands. Yep, Microsoft is finally getting rid of the brand that was supposed to rival the Apple's iPod/iTunes ecosystem, but failed miserably. It’s not just the physical player they’re killing off - they did that last year while holding onto Zune as the name of the desktop software and music service. Now, Zune will be no more.

In addition, in an effort to further simplify things, the Windows Live brand is also going away. Here's a look at what to expect, and what will replace the two brands:

  • Microsoft Account (Windows Live ID)
  • Mail (Windows Live Mail)
  • Calendar (Windows Live Calendar)
  • People (Windows Live Contacts)
  • Photos (Windows Live Photo Gallery)
  • Music (Zune Music Player)
  • Video (Zune Video Player)

We also wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft replaced Zune with a streaming music service similar to Spotify. The sad part is that Zune could have been what Spotify Premium currently offers had Microsoft been more forward thinking with the concept. We've actually said many times in the past that the Zune Pass was the best deal in music. Currently there are other well-established music services with dedicated users like Spotify, Rdio, MOG, and Rhapsody. If this is Microsoft’s attempt to dominate a new market, we sure hope they've got a better plan than they did with the original Zune launch.

Kinect Star Wars Bundle

Kinect and Star Wars, a perfect match some might say. George Lucas has teamed up with Microsoft to bring us the wonderful and whimsical Star Wars Xbox 360 Kinect bundle. The bundle includes a custom painted R2D2 themed Xbox 360 with matching Kinect sensor. The Xbox itself also has custom R2D2 sound effects when turning the console on or off or, as well as when ejecting a disc.

That’s not all; the bundle also includes a copy of the game Kinect Star Wars and a C3PO-themed controller. On the front of the console it can also be noticed that the standard green LED lights that make up the iconic XBOX 360 face have been replaced with blue LEDs to match the whole R2D2 thing. Finally, the Xbox 360 comes equipped with a massive 360 GB hard drive, the newest and largest drive to date available for the console. All of these wonderful treasures are available for pre-order now, and will be available for purchase on June 1 of this year for $449.00.
