Box Office Breakdown: Horton Hears a Who Has Largest 2008 Debut

Thankfully, Jim Carrey‘s embarrassing stint on American Idol wasn’t all in vain.
Horton Hears a Who earned $45 million dollars over the past weekend, trouncing the competition. Although the kid-friendly flick has had the biggest opening of 2008 so far, the film falls in the middle of the pack when it comes to Dr. Seuss adaptations. How The Grinch Stole Christmas opened with $55 million back in 2000; A Cat in the Hat took in $38.3 just three years later.
Horton‘s premiere also made a nice statement for non-Pixar related films overall. This animated movie found itself in fifth place behind other cartoon debuts. (Disney’s Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., Cars and Ratatouille rank one through four.)
The only other new entries in this week’s Top Ten were the mixed-martial arts pic Never Back Down and the post-apocalyptic thriller Doomsday.

The Jolie-Pitts: Cute Family Photo of the Day

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Celebrity Babies, Pregnancies, Photos,

I just couldn’t help but grin when I saw this picture of Angelina Jolie and her brood today. If the rumors of her impending twins are true, this same scene will soon become quite a spectacle.
While I have always thought that Shiloh was absolutely adorable, I believe this may be the first time I have ever seen the blonde cutie smile. Too precious.
Limit TV Time and Kids Lose Weight

Studies show that more kids are becoming obese these days due to more emphasis on video games, TVs, and computers, rather than actually exercising. Big Macs only add to the problem. Leonard Epstein of the State University of New York and team came up with a monitoring device that cuts time in half, resulting in overweight kids being forced to do something else that would burn those calories. After 2 years, the study found that kids who were restricted by 17.5 hours a week ended up with lower BMIs. We think this would be a good idea for some of the adults we know.

First Spears Husband Steps Forward

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Divorce, Celebrity Babies, Meltdowns, Rumors,
Okay, so does anybody remember the guy Britney Spears married before the K-Fed melodrama started? Like the actor, his name is Jason Alexander - and maybe he’s thinking his 15 minute of fame aren’t over yet.
Alexander sat down recently to do an interview with In Touch magazine, and though he was married to the pop tart for only 55 hours, his opinion of her is being treated as though it’s utterly important and relevant to Brit’s current behavior.
His comments don’t at all cast Brit in a favorable light. Alexander on Spears and her kids: “She wants to see them, but she doesn’t want to be a full-time mom. She said it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t get them back full time, and that she can always have other kids later on.” Dayum. Alexander further said that he and Brit recently reestablished friendship ties and that he heard the former comments from Spears herself.

Britney Spears Did WHAT?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Gossip, Rumors,
This is one Britney Spears rumor even I can’t make heads or tails of. According to US Magazine, Spears is scouting around Beverly Hills for kids who aren’t her own. The report says Britney arrived at a Beverly Hills elementary school wearing revealing clothing and talked about picking up someone else’s children. One source says the pop star even seemed confused.
Arriving just before school let out in the afternoon, Spears said “I’m here to pick up my kids.” But then, “They aren’t my kids; I have a new attorney, and I came to pick them up for her.” During her visit to the school, Spears chain-smoked and “rambled,” in the words of one eyewitness. What about the children she was supposed to pick up? They never showed up. Eventually, Spears simply drove away all by herself.
So, okay, what’s going on here? Did some strange mother actually send Britney Spears to pick up her children, or was Brit just thoroughly confused? As more and more of this strange behavior manifests, I must confess to a growing concern. I may not know her, but I admit I’m starting to get a little worried about Britney Spears. Is all this just for media attention…or is something really wrong with Brit?

More Ticket Troubles with Hannah Montana

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Disney, Music, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
The concert everyone wanted to see will soon become the movie fans will be forced to miss. Miley Cyrus, star of Hannah Montana and big-selling concert songstress, will soon be on the big screen. The Montana movie comes out February 1, but it’s only scheduled to run for a single week. Tickets have been on sale since December 1, and already fans are treating them like pieces of the true cross. Tickets are selling (and selling out) online and at box offices.
The movie, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, will feature clips of Miley’s nationwide tour that caused a summer sensation. Meanwhile, Disney has offered no information as to whether the movie will also be released on DVD.
Independent films and other genre films are often released for only one week, and some say such a short release time helps the market from becoming oversaturated. Hannah Montana? Oversaturated? That ship has sailed.

Pamela Anderson Denies Pregnancy Rumors

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Gossip, Rumors,
Is Pam pregnant? The star issued a very short and sweet statement in response to the pregnancy rumors now surfacing: “No.” The denial was posted in Pamela Anderson’s blog, a disavowal of the big Internet news that she and hubby Rick Salomon are expecting. In a recent E! interview, Anderson said she’ll not have any more kids.
Anderson filed for divorce from Salomon in December but changed her mind shortly thereafter, according to reports. Though Anderson maintains she and Salomon are working on their relationship, the divorce petition has not been withdrawn. Anderson has also recently hinted that she may have a TV project in the works with cable channel E! - though she says she won’t ever do a reality show.

This Week on TV (12/10-12/16)

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Animation, Comedy, Drama, Games, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, Specials, ABC, Cable, CBS, FX, HBO, MTV, NBC, Showtime, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Nip/Tuck, Saturday Night Live, Survivor, The Hills,

MONDAY (12/10)
- I Want a Dog, Charlie Brown (ABC, 8pm): “Linus and Lucy’s little brother, Rerun, hangs with Snoopy and his own sibling, the desert-dwelling Spike.” Was I the only one not aware of the What’s Happening!/Peanuts crossover episode?
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8pm): “Ted asks his doctor on a date and his friends try to discourage him from dating someone he sees regularly.” Relationships clearly work best when you never see them at all.
- Notes from the Underbelly (ABC, 9:30pm): “Lauren tries to convince her sister to move to LA so she can be nearby when the baby is born.” Lauren’s sister isn’t stupid. She knows what ‘be nearby’ means.
- The Hills (MTV, 10pm): Season finale. “Lauren gets an offer to go to Paris.” I really hope MTV doesn’t take their version of quality programming overseas (again). The French hate us already.
