VIDEO: VIP Breakdown Interviews Kevin Bacon
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Charity, Videos,
Followers of VIP Breakdown, you are now (kinda) two degrees away from Kevin Bacon.
We recently had an opportunity to speak to the well-connected actor about his pair of wins for the HBO movie Taking Chance and his acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. We also got his thoughts about possibly acting with wife Kyra Sedgwick on her show The Closer and his feelings about his daughter (Sosie Bacon) joining the business.
Additionally, we had a chance to learn about the “Pepsi Refresh Project.” Bacon - who was honored with the Joel Siegel Award for his philanthropy work through his Six Degrees foundation - has teamed up with the company to support others wanting to have a positive impact. Through 2010, people can vote on and/or submit charitable ideas that are in need of funding. By year’s end, Pepsi will award more than $20 million in grants for ideas that “will refresh the world and lead to positive change.”
You can find more information on the Pepsi Refresh Project here.

VIDEO: Mel Gibson Calls Reporter “A-Hole” on TV
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Television, Meltdowns, Videos,
UPDATE: Gibson has since admitted to having a “short fuse.”
Lesson of the Day: If you’re ever going to interview Mel Gibson, just stick to divorce-related questions. References to his “sugar t-ts” comment are off the table.
While helping Gibson to promote his new movie, a Chicago-entertainment reporter got a taste of the actor’s edge of darkness. Although things were pretty tense for WGN’s Dean Richards during the chat, the situation got 10x more awkward after it was done.
You’re right, Mel. We should keep things from the past in the past. Let’s focus on what you’re saying today.
Nicole Kidman on Taylor Swift: She is a Delight
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Movies, Music, Kind Acts, Videos,
Despite her husband Keith Urban losing out to Taylor Swift at the Country Music Awards this year, Nicole Kidman had nothing but nice things to say for the young singer.
“She is a delight. And she so deserves what’s happening to her because, having met her and seeing her actually really become a phenomenon over the past couple of years, she really deserves it… She’s a honey bun. She’s everything that she appears to be.”
With endless nice comments her way and possibly dating one of the hottest werewolves around, is there anything this 19 year-old doesn’t have or cannot do?

Lambert Admits He Got Carried Away, Still Not Sorry
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Award Shows, Daytime, Music, ABC, CBS, Gossip, News, Video,
If the folks at ABC were counting on Adam Lambert to apologize for his AMA performance, it’s probably a good thing they canceled his Good Morning America appearance.
The American Idol alum showed up to The Early Show instead and did admit that catching glimpses of his favorite pop stars sparked more of his energy.
“I admit I did get carried away, but I don’t see anything wrong with it. I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time with it.”
He also made no apologies when asked about how he felt with children watching his performance: “It didn’t cross my mind - children. It was almost 11 o’clock at night. I was in the audience and it was mostly adults… I’m not a babysitter. I’m a performer.”
Check out his Early Show performances after the break!

VIDEO: Martha Stewart Calls Sarah Palin Boring and Dangerous
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Videos,
Although she was in attendance at a charity function, Martha Stewart wasn’t feeling charitable in her opinion about Sarah Palin.
When asked by CNN last week about her thoughts on the former Alaskan governor, the domestic diva was her usual blunt self. “She’s very boring to me. Very boring. And a very…to me…uh, kind of a dangerous person. I mean, she’s dangerous.” So aside from her potential connection to the end of the world in 2012, how exactly is Palin dangerous? “She speaks! She’s so confused. And anyone like that in government is a real problem.”
So would Martha - who lost over a billion dollars after her legal scandal - accept any money to hear Palin speak? “I wouldn’t watch her if she paid me,” Stewart claimed.

Video: Old-school Lady Gaga at NYU
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Performances, Videos, Pop,
As if we needed any more reason to admire the talent of Lady Gaga, we just came across this video of her from her pre-Gaga (and pre-blonde) days. Here, she is performing at the annual NYU talent show as Stefani Germanotta, performing Captivated and Electric Kiss while playing piano.
We also like what she says at the 5:48 mark in the video posted after the break. She is definitely cognizant about her surroundings, and her role in the music business. Listen to her comments about her album, The Fame, as well as Princess Diana.

Weekend Reading: Webcomics, Fritz The Cat, E-Man and Batman!
Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials,
Back again with more cool stuff from around the internet. Whether your tastes run to Ralph Bakshi’s version of Robert Crumb’s Fritz The Cat, webcomics, E-Man or inappropriately sexual licensed Batman products, the internet proved a bounty of great stuff this week. Let’s take a look.
Webcomics: I love webcomics - and some day we’ll all just call them comics, right? - and I love the sites that cover them. Which means I love Floating Light Bulb. In addition to coverage of webcomics, there are lots of great insights into using them as a business, plus stuff on Google, Twitter, and more. Also, this person is smarter than me. A highly recommended site to bookmark.
Here’s a taste from a recent post. This past week featured an interview with Kez who does the webcomic War of Winds. The interview’s focus is all about webcomic creators attending conventions, hand-selling, meeting fans and making fans. It’s about the “creator as small businessperson” model. Kez also breaks down how much money can be made via her website v. conventions. “I completed one short 54-page comic as a printed side-story, which has sold well. While I didn’t start out with that story from a business stand-point, I ended that way. Out of the 50 copies I had printed, I have sold 42, gave away 2, have 3 left to sell, and 3 that were mis-printed. I bought each for about 7 dollars, sold them for $10 each, and made a profit of over $100. I will be printing more books shortly, as books sell the best at conventions.” It’s great to see someone talking hard numbers like this, instead of theory. Much, much more at the link.

Carrie Prejean, take notes. This is how your “hero” Sarah Palin addresses difficult questions.
Based on snippets released, it appears the long-awaited interview between Oprah Winfrey and the former Alaskan governor was a lot less tense than some may have feared. The chat, which covered a number of topics, will air one day before Palin’s book, Going Rogue, is released.

Carrie Prejean: From Beauty Queen to Drama Queen
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: D-List, Television, Legal Issues, Meltdowns, Videos,
Oh, Carrie Prejean—why do I love to hate you so much?
1. Maybe it’s because you still think people care about your gay marriage stance?
Honey, you’re just a liar. Period. (The wind blew my top open? Really?)
2. Maybe it’s because you think this is all Perez Hilton’s fault?
You’re just mad the controversy exposed a porn tape you never thought would surface.
3. Maybe it’s because you tried suing the pageant officials?
Uhh - do you even remember signing that morals clause?
4. Maybe it’s because you don’t know why the media won’t let up?
That’s because you won’t stop talking about it!
But enough about my feelings about you…let’s move on to your talents.

Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer Visits Oprah
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Books, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
To a different age group, this interview could be bigger than the one with Sarah Palin.
In just a few days from now, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer will be sitting on Oprah Winfrey’s stage. The chat, which comes just two weeks before New Moon finally debuts, will be the only one the writer grants during this promotional tour.
Meyer recently explained the reasoning behind her solo press interview on her blog. “You know I’ve been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I’m not changing that now, but I am making an exception. I’m doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with New Moon that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I’m only doing one interview, better make it big,” she wrote.
Look for Stephenie on The Oprah Winfrey Show this Friday, Nov. 13th.
