Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gizmatic, Short Bytes, Broadband, CES, CES 2007, Features, HDTV, Home Entertainment, Videocasts,
VeriSign is throwing down the content delivery gauntlet with their Intelligent CDN technology. We are talking about full high definition video content streamed directly to your television at very high speeds. They show off a 200 MB file that is encoded at 5 mbps 1080p, which downloads completely in under 30 seconds. This is the kind of technology we hope to see on our set top boxes in the near future, and VeriSign is promising that it isn’t far away at all. Give it a view, and let us know what you think. Could both HD DVD and Blu-ray be dead in the water with tech like this soon to be available everywhere?

We speak with Hitatchi about iVDR in this clip, where they mention squeezing 760 GB into a 2.5-inch sized drive. iVDR is expected to launch in April over in Japan, and a 160 GB module will likely cost around $300 USD. We get a look at a couple of prototype ideas as well, all in this clip.

While they aren’t the prettiest things, we aren’t sure that anything short of a bulldozer will be able to destroy your iPod while it’s encased in one of these. The case also has built-in neoprene waterproof speakers. Available for $199 USD.

We noticed a few people charging their cell phones on the HyperCharge Mobile Charger at CES, and we figured we would talk to a couple of people who were using it to get their impressions. For $5, you get a 15 minute charge which results in a virtually full battery. We also spoke with someone who just left their BlackBerry in the unit, as security is an issue when dealing with expensive phones and handhelds.

We caught up with Technocom to talk about their Vehicle and Infrastructure Integration, which allows vehicles to integrate with both the road infrastructure as well as other cars. The hope is that the technology will both reduce traffic congestion and reduce auto accidents. Vehicles would be fitted with a custom Technocom console, or it would be built-in to a standard GPS device, and all of a sudden your driving world would be willed with different safety alerts so that you are kept on your toes about driving conditions and hazards.
