ABC didn’t win the night, but it had what the 18-49s wanted to watch: Modern Family. The Emmy-award winning comedy returned last night to its best demos to date. Unfortunately, that half hour wasn’t enough for the network. CBS wound up taking wins in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Survivor: Nicaragua (12.5 million, 4.0/12 in 18-49) easily won its hour.
- The Middle (2.6/8) had 8.8 million laughing.
- Approximately 8.6 million (2.0/6) checked out the debut of Undercovers.
- Better with You (8 million, 2.5/7) retained most Middle‘s numbers.
- A new installment of Hell’s Kitchen (2.9/8) fired up 6.6 million.
- America’s Next Top Model (1.3/4) turned in 2.8 million.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Dancing With The Stars, Ratings,
Several shows saw success on Day 2 of the fall television schedule. Glee earned big numbers despite the lack of a lead-in; NCIS remained strong despite being in its eighth season; and DWTS drew a lot of interest for a simple results show. In the end, CBS was a winner with the viewers while FOX was on top with the demos.
8pm
- NCIS (19.4 million, 4.0/11 in 18-49) had the most viewers of the evening.
- Glee (12.3 million, 5.5/16) had its second-best demos to date.
- Dancing with the Stars* (2.6/7) recapped 12 million.
- The Biggest Loser (2.9/8) averaged 7.2 million over two hours.

The first official night of the fall television season saw five new shows vying for our attention. Despite good starts from Hawaii Five-0, Mike & Molly and The Event, Dancing with the Stars remained strong for ABC. Meanwhile, Lone Star proved a position post-House doesn’t necessarily mean ratings gold.
8pm
- Dancing with the Stars had 21.3 million (5.1/13 in 18-49) checking out the situation.
- House (10.7 million, 4.2/11) was down nearly 6 million from last fall.
- How I Met Your Mother (3.6/10) kicked things off with 8.8 million; Rules of Engagement (3.1/8) attracted 8.4 million.
- Chuck’s premiere drew 5.8 million (2.0/6).
- 90210 returned to 1.8 million (0.9/3).

Lady Gaga may have found success with her song “Telephone,” but it was nearly someone else’s (likely) hit.
Although Britney Spears was given the opportunity to record the Gaga-penned tune, the pop princess ultimately turned it down.
Listen to this demo track and hear what could have possibly been had Spears made the song her own.

Thursday Ratings: NBC Showered with Good News

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Food & Home, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Grey’s Anatomy, Survivor, The Office, Ratings,
Hey NBC - primetime might actually survive in the post-Jay Leno world after all. Last night’s arrival of Jim and Pam’s baby on The Office delivered something the network hadn’t seen before, a victory over Grey’s Anatomy in the demos. That one-hour special lead into another nice win for the network. The Marriage Ref‘s time slot debut also defeated the competition in the 18-49s.
8pm
- American Idol (19.3 million, 6.5/19 in 18-49) still had the best numbers of the evening.
- Survivor (12.7 million, 3.8/11) picked up 1.2 million more.
- Community (2.3/7) kicked off the night with 5.1 million.
- A Grey’s Anatomy* repeat (1.2/3) turned in 5 million.
- Parks and Recreation (4.6 million, 2.3/6) lost part of its lead-in.
- The Vampire Diaries* (0.7/2) checked in 1.7 million.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Ratings,
Don’t be fooled—Oprah Winfrey doesn’t always have the Midas touch. Despite the A-list filled roster, yesterday’s Oprah Winfrey Oscar Special failed to dazzle. The program came in last during its hour and did worse than the last original Ugly Betty episode.

- American Idol (23.5 million, 8.5/23 in 18-49) added on 700,000 more.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (1.7/5) and Gary Unmarried (2.0/5) both pulled in 6 million.
- Mercy (1.6/5) also raised 6 million.
- Approximately 6 million watched The Middle (2.1/6) as well.
- A Modern Family* repeat (1.7/5) scored 5.2 million.
- Life Unexpected* (1.1 million, 0.5/1) did about the same as last week.

Endless promos during the Winter Olympics didn’t exactly result in large numbers for Parenthood. Although NBC’s new drama did have a small victory in the demos, the program was still a far second with the viewers.

American Idol‘s first results show of the season wasn’t strong enough to compete with the action in Vancouver. Coverage of the women’s figure skating finals helped NBC defeat FOX in the viewers and demos once again.
