Valkryie Will Debut in 2008

Valkyrie cast

Okay, this is just getting ridiculous. Believe it or not, has just now been given its fourth - and supposedly final - release date.

The movie, which blamed production issues and marketing reasons for the constant delays, was last scheduled to open on Feb. 13, 2009. (The other two dates previously mentioned were June 27, 2008 and October 3, 2008.) Now, thanks to a favorable screening, the WWII drama is being given a space on the holiday calendar.

So when will Valkryie open now? December 26, 2008. (Make sure to mark that down in pencil.)

Prince of Persia Gets Pushed Back

Jake Gyllenhaal and the Prince of Persia

In hopes of creating another successful franchise, and Jerry Bruckheimer have made the decision to delay their next joint feature.

Originally scheduled for next June, has been pushed back a whole year. It’s believed this calendar shift will give the crew more time to perfect the post-production work necessary for the video game adaptation.

As a bonus, the change of date will allow Persia to avoid the premiere of Transformers 2 on June 26. (This is, of course, assuming Shia LaBeouf’s injuries allow that movie to even stay on track.)

Jake Gyllenhaal and his princely hair will now arrive in theaters on Memorial Day weekend 2010.

Simpsons’ Actors Return to Work

The SimpsonsEven though they didn’t get the amount they were hoping for, ’ cast has finally returned to work. A settlement reached this weekend capped off months of salary negotiations between the show’s talent and 20th Century Fox TV.

The comedy’s lead players - Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Hank Azaria, Yeardley Smith, Nancy Cartwright and Harry Shearer - were reportedly seeking a $500,000 per episode paycheck. (That would have been up from around $360,000.) What they eventually settled on was a number closer to $400K. Although Shearer was still in the process of finalizing his deal, his co-workers were expected at a table read scheduled for Monday.

The new contract will lock up the actors at the new rate for four years and give fans their 20th year with the Simpsons clan. (FOX would have to specifically request additional installments.) Unfortunately, 2008-09 will still see less episodes than originally planned; two half-hours were shaved off due to the delayed negotiations.

Tom Cruise’s Strangely Missing Accent

Valkyrie cast

After viewing a teaser trailer for Valkyrie, I now see why Tom Cruise’s film may be in need of a few delays.

In this WWII movie, the actor plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg - a German officer who plots to take down Adolf Hitler.  Granted, I haven’t seen the film yet, but I highly doubt the character ever took voice lessons by watching videos of Mission Impossible.

You can listen to his laughable performance after the jump.

Mind Camp 5.0 to be rescheduled

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Upcoming, Announcements,

I wanted to follow up from the email I sent out a couple of weeks ago to those of you who have purchased a ticket to Mind Camp 5.0 already. Since we weren’t able to raise enough sponsorship to cover the cost of the event, we will be delaying it. As it turns out, the usual companies who would sponsor have pretty much all spent their budget on , which takes place the week before Mind Camp would have.

I am in talks with the venue to see what date we can push back to - I am thinking it is going to be mid-March, so about an 8 week delay. This will (hopefully) give us a little more time to firm up sponsorship so we can get things paid for. As far as Mind Camp 5.0 goes, we have so far only signed one sponsor - TrenchMice at $500. A big thank you goes out to them.

If you’ve already paid for a ticket and want a refund, just drop me an email, and I will issue you one immediately. Otherwise, your ticket will simply be transferred and will be good for the newly chosen date. Once I found out when that will be, I will let you guys know.

In the meantime, if you have contacts at any local companies that you believe would benefit from supporting the event, please send them my way. Feel free to get back to me with any questions, and have a happy holiday!

Unreal Tournament 3 For PlayStation 3 Delayed Until 2008

Unreal Tournament 3

Midway announced today in a press release that the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, originally scheduled to release with the PC version this November as a timed console exclusive, isn’t expected to be released until the first quarter of 2008. David F. Zucker, president and CEO of Midway, said he regretted having to lose the holiday sales from the delays but said, “[W]e remain confident that our technology strategy and product plan position us to grow both revenue and market share as we move into the heart of this console cycle.”

Developer Epic Games’ Mark Rein said in a forum post that the press release included UT3 as an obligation to investors and said that he was still optimistic about a 2007 release, but that they wouldn’t ship until the game was ready and “the best game (they could) deliver.” He also confirmed that the PC version, due out in November, was still on schedule to ship as planned.

Calm Before the Storm

Alijah started preschool on Monday. This will have been the third school he has attended in his short span of 3 years of being-- oh, my bad, 3 and 3/4 years. The first school he attended was a private clinic mainly for children with developmental delays, and it was a wonderful place that we still miss. The teachers and therapists there were very patient, loving, and nurturing and it is the place that helped Alijah to begin to walk at the ripe old age of 28 months when most children his age had been running circles around him for months. It was a place very focused on setting a routine for the kids and Alijah became accustomed to that and to the friends he was making for the first time. He learned how to sing songs, and use more sign language than what we were teaching him at home to communicate as he barely spoke when he started there, and when he turned 3 he graduated from that school because they only treat children under 3 years of age. We then enrolled him into a public school curriculum, yet still a class that was centered around developmentally delayed children his age, as Alijah still has some speech and social delays. This school and his last school were like night and day to us. The teachers were all great, but it seemed as if they did not have as much time to give the kids the one on one attention we had grown accustomed to. I am sure the private funding in the school he came from made all the difference but to a 3 year old, that doesn't add up to a whole lotta' beans. He was used to things a certain way so it took him a while to get adjusted to the kids and new routines. Besides that fact, this was a whole new class with a whole set of new germs so Alijah was out of school more than he was in class due to catching one thing or another every other week---no exaggeration.

EA’s Skate Demo Rescheduled

skate.

After postponing the demo for their upcoming skateboarding game —originally scheduled for August 15—publisher has settled on Tuesday, August 21st as a new release date. One of the anticipated features of the game that was to be available on the demo is the video capture and upload capabilities. It was reportedly technical problems with this functionality that delayed the demo’s release in the first place, but EA believes they have hammered out the issues. This allows players to make video clips of their game play and upload them to share with other players online.

Skate is challenging the long-running and popular skateboard series and is scheduled for release on September 12.

Breaking: Apple Delays Leopard Until October Due to iPhone

iPhoneFor those who were waiting with baited breath for the launch of Mac OS X Leopard at the Worldwide Developer’s Conference in June, you are going to have to wait a bit longer. just dropped a bombshell, claiming that, despite their promise that they would ship Leopard this spring, we won’t be seeing it on Apple Store shelves until October 2007. The reason for the delay? One word: . From Apple:

iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price—we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS® X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned. While Leopard’s features will be complete by then, we cannot deliver the quality release that we and our customers expect from us. We now plan to show our developers a near final version of Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October. We think it will be well worth the wait. Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we’re sure we’ve made the right ones.

Whoa. Think about that for a moment. Apple claims that the software on the iPhone, which is supposedly a stripped down and optimized OS X, is so sophisticated that they had to move resources from the Mac OS X team to the iPhone team to get iPhone out the door in June. Developers who attend WWDC will instead walk away with a beta version of Leopard.

If that isn’t enough proof that Apple sees the iPhone as their main focus right now, we don’t know what else they could do to convince you of that fact. Still, we guess that, on the positive side, the fact that Apple is delaying the OS as opposed to releasing an under-performing version of it’s next-gen OS only to patch it up in a few months, is a good thing.

Metroid Prime Wii Pushed Back Again, Fils-Aime Wants “Perfect”

Samus from MetroidBad news for all you Nintendo fans out there - it looks like we may still be waiting a while longer for the Metroid Prime trilogy to be complete. Newsweek talked to company figurehead Reggie Fils-Aime, who had this to say:

Where is Metroid? Metroid is not going to ship by June. We’ve announced all of our games through the end of June. And the fact with Metroid is we want to make sure that that game is perfect. Unfortunately, Metroid Prime 2 didn’t live up to our expectations, it didn’t live up to Retro’s expectations

Evidently, Nintendo’s looking to put out a lot of marketing for this product, and they want it to be the best that it can be when it releases. (And if it sells more copies than Echoes, they’d prefer that too. Given that this is one of the first FPS titles to have a chance of not sucking on Nintendo’s new console (i.e. not Red Steel or Medal of Honor, I think it’s safe to say that this game will sell pretty well. Here’s hoping that the game’s as close to “perfect” as they can make it too.
