In a video message posted on his group’s website, Adam “MCA” Yauch regretfully announced the end of the Beastie Boys’ summer tour. The cancellation and a delay of their next album are results of a recent cancer diagnosis.
It was determined approximately two weeks ago that Yauch was suffering from more than just swollen glands. He will now receive surgery and radiation for cancer found in his left parotid gland and a lymph node in that area.

Farrah Fawcett Loses Battle with Cancer

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: News, Video,
Farrah Fawcett, the iconic blonde star with the never-to-be-forgotten poster, died today in a California hospital. She was 62.
The actress’ death comes after a nearly three-year long health battle. Despite being declared free of anal cancer in early 2007, the disease quickly returned. A recent NBC special documented the star’s quest for alternative treatments.
Although she will most likely be remembered as Jill Munroe, one of the original Charlie’s Angels, Fawcett actually chose to move on from that series after only 22 episodes. (A few more guest appearances followed.) After a few disappointing stabs at a film career, Farrah earned critical praise when she returned to the small screen. Memorable turns in several television projects - including The Burning Bed and Small Sacrifices - eventually earned Farrah a number of Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.

Mariah Carey auctioning off dress on eBay

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Women, Dresses,
Mariah Carey is selling one of her rare dresses on eBay.The dress is a hot pink, fishtailed asymmetric frock, and the goal of the auction is to raise money for breast cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The gown was created by Julian Contreras as part of a competition where the singer asked fans to design a dress inspired by her Deicious Pink fragrance, and it is one of only three in existence. Mariah was last seen wearing the dress on a dinner date with husband Nick Cannon in April.
The close-fitting dress will be listed until May 30. Mariah is not the only celebrity to be selling her property on eBay. Gwyneth Paltrow recently offered garments - including a Burberry dress and a Topshop trench coat - on the auction website, with all funds going to the Robin Hood Foundation which helps fight poverty in New York. Jessica Alba has been selling her daughter’s old clothes on eBay, as she recently placed a number of items on the bidding website in aid of charity, including some of 11-month-old Honor’s old garments, Hello Kitty rain gear and a limited-edition Maclaren Juicy Couture Ruder Stroller. All proceeds from Jessica’s sale went to the Clean Water Initiative, which aims to provide all babies with access to fresh water.
Cancer the reason for Michael Jackson O2 Arena concert delays?

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Pop,
Michael Jackson has delayed his London concert series. Jackson will now kick off his O2 Arena residency on July 13, five days later than originally planned, as we reported yesterday. It has been reported the 50-year-old Jackson is to have surgery on his skin cancer today, with doctors removing cancerous flesh on his chest and nose.
Michael Jackson may also need radiation gun therapy to ensure all diseased cells are destroyed, according to Britain’s The Sun newspaper. Randy Phillips, president of AEG Live who are promoting the tour, has dismissed Jackson’s rumoured cancer battle and stressed the delay is down to the “massive and technically complex show”. He said: “Michael is not sleeping with elephants and not suffering skin cancer. He’s a magnet for weird stories but he’s in great shape. I’d trade my body for his tomorrow. This show has grown in size and scope, thereby, necessitating more lead time for manufacture of the set, programming the content for the massive video elements, and, most importantly, more time for full production and dress rehearsals. As much as we agonised over this change in the original schedule, we are sure the fans will understand when they experience the level of entertainment Michael Jackson intends to deliver while also ensuring the safety of the musicians, cast and crew and the crisp execution of the production.”

Even doctors love Twitter. Last week surgeons from the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan sent short updates while removing a cancerous tumor from a man’s kidney. Sent by the chief resident, the messages were watched by medical students, doctors and perhaps fans of “Grey’s Anatomy.” Four months ago, Robert Hendrick, while under local anesthesia, tweeted his varicose vein removal surgery while the event was taking place. He claimed that it not only took his mind off it and lessened his nervousness, but family and friends were there to support him.

Patrick Swayze Memoir Due Out This Fall

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies,
Even though he’s already opened up to Barbara Walters, Patrick Swayze still has a lot of story left to tell.
The 56-year-old and Lisa Niemi, his wife of 30 years, are currently working on a memoir that will hit the shelves this fall. According to Atria Books, the currently untitled project “will offer an intimate account of Patrick Swayze’s childhood, career and marriage, as well as his brave fight against a diagnosis of stage-four pancreatic cancer, from which he has gleaned wisdom and has remained resolutely optimistic.”
Lisa will also contribute passages about her experience “helping a loved one battle a life-threatening disease.”
Swayze says his intention is to help those who might benefit from the book. “With everything I’ve been fortunate enough to do in my life, and covering such a wide range of diverse subject matters, I’m told that my story has been inspirational to people,” the actor said in a statement. “I will write from my heart about these experiences and aside from the sheer pleasure of doing it, if people happen to garner inspiration from it, or incentive, or find a new way to love, it would be wonderful.”

UPDATE: Swayze is now out of the hospital and back at home.
Just days after the broadcast of his Barbara Walters interview, Patrick Swayze was unfortunately absent at a press gathering for his new show.
At today’s event before the Television Critics Association, A&E execs informed the audience that The Beast star was being treated for pneumonia. “Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today’s panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery,” president Abbe Raven stated.
Swayze, 56, announced last March that he had been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Despite his status, the actor has already outlived many tabloid timelines and was able to complete a whole season of his new series.
The season premiere of The Beast debuts Thursday, Jan. 15 at 10 p.m. on A&E.
