Viewty is a device that can’t decide whether it is a phone or a 5 megapixel cam. At a length of 10cm and only 1.4 cm thickness, the LG U900 has a 3-inch screen, and such fun features as a digital zoom, Xenon flash, autofocus light, lens with manual focus dial, and a handy touchscreen. There are more camera controls, such as selection keys, playback, and image stabilization. Panasonic Offers Lumix with Ultra-wide Lens

Panasonic has recently released its new additions to its Lumix line, including its slim DMC-FX35 Cam, which features their first 25mm ultra-wide lens. With 10.1 megapixels, it has a 4x optical zoom, an f2.8 brightness and their Advanced Intelligent Auto mode. This technology includes analyzed and adjusted exposure, red-eye correction, gyrosensors to make up for those shaky hands, auto-change shutter speed, slide show capability, and scene selector for a better background. The DMC-FX35 will be available next month in silver, black or blue models at a price of $349.95.

Olympus Unveils Waterproof Compacts

Olympus has two digital compacts to add to their Stylus line, the 1030 SW and 850 SW (shock and water-proof.) The 850 features an 8 MP sensor, a 2.5-inch HyperCrystal II LCD display, and a 3x optical zoom. Drop it up to 5 feet and it bounces back, figuratively speaking. The camera can go down 10 feet in temperatures of about 14ºF. The 1030 has a 10.1 MP sensor, a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal II LCD display, and a 3.6x optical zoom. Olympus claims that it will handle a depth of 33 feet and a temperature as low as 14ºF. The 850 should be available later this month for at a price of ~$300.00 while the 1030 makes its debut in March for an extra $100.00.

Panasonic Offers new LUMIX

Panasonic has unveiled its latest LUMIX digital cam. The DMC-LS80 features a VARIO lens system, an 8.1 megapixel high-res, and a 3x optical zoom. It also has OIS, IAO, auto-macro setting in close range and auto-focus. Futhermore, the camera has a Venus Engine III processor with available high-speed burst shooting mode, video recording at 30 fps, and is HDTV compatible. In colors of pink, black, or silver, all this can be yours if the price is right, in this case $149.95, beginning in February.

Digital Camera Mask Takes Underwater Shots

Anyone who has attempted underwater photography knows that getting a good shot is not the easiest thing in the world, especially if your instinct is to swim far away from a creature that looks like it wants you for a snack. Liquid Image has come up with a solution by designing a scuba mask with a cam built-in and tempered glass goggles with cross hairs to get a perfect shot.
The Digital Camera Mask features a 5 megapixel camera that can shoot 18 to 25 fps VGA in high and low resolution down to a depth of 30 m. It holds 16MB flash memory, has auto-off, and displays what you shoot on LCD. If you need more memory, add a microSD card. After you capture, you can simply download by USB, although ArcSoft Software is included for editing. The mask needs 2 AAA batteries (not included) and carries a MSRP of $99.99.

Peru Welcomes OLPC

It appears that the OLPC has already become a hit in Peru. At the Santiago Apostol School, it seems that the children in the small town of 800 can’t get enough of the computer. In fact, the school population rose by 10 when families heard the it was coming. Many of the children there leave after finishing schools because they don’t want to farm like their parents.
Maria Antonieta Mendoza, an Education Ministry psychologist who is helping to prepare for the rollout in March, claims that they love the built-in camera best, since many of them had only seen them previously belonging to tourists. In all, more than 272,000 units will be distributed in the county.

Spy Cam Works on Flourescent Lighting

NEC has come up with a wireless spy cam which is powered by fluorescent light sockets. Based on technology developed last year, the camera utilizes the magnetic field of the 45 to100 kHz power source. It takes images every 10 seconds and supports VGA, QVGA, and QQVGA resolutions. Image transferral is by wireless Lan to PC. The cam will be making its debut at the 2007 iExpo in Japan this week or in an office or bank lobby that isn’t trusting near you.
