Panasonic to Release Mini-Cam

While we are on the subject of digital mini-camcorders, Panasonic has unveiled one at a size of 41 × 59 x 102mm and a weight of 160g. The SDR-S7’s features include DVD (MPEG2) video recording, a 2.7-inch display, a 10x optical zoom, and 0.06s Quick Start. The cam supports SD cards up to 16GB. Take your choice of either silver or black. The SDR-S7 carries a price of 44,800 yen (~$435.) Look for a debut April 25 in Japan.

Sony Unveils Mini-Cam

Sony has released a hi-def video camera, claiming that it is the smallest and lightest on the planet. Available in Japan later this month, the HDR-TG1 measures 1.3 x 4.7 x 2.5-inches and weighs a mere 10.6 oz. With storage of 55 minutes, the camcorder has a 2.7-inch touch LCD and resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The cam comes with a start-up 4GB Pro Duo Mark2 media card. We dig Sony’s cameras and have used them for years, but we are thinking that with a price tag of 130,000 Yen ($1,271.00,) we think we will purchase two larger ones at half that amount.

The same company has now introed the miVDOFX DV Cam, which not only shoots video, but lets you edit them and incorporate up to 18 special effects on the spot, no computer required. Plus, you can even connect it to an MP3 player/iPod while filming to add a soundtrack to your masterpiece. Oh, and it takes still photos, too. Hitachi Reveals First Blu-Ray Camera

Hitachi has announced the formal unveiling of the word’s first Blu-ray (BDs) camcorders. The DZ-BD70 is a single drive cam that can record approximately an hour of 1920 x 1080 of full high-def video (two hours of 1440 x 1080) on an a single side, single layer 8 cm BD. The DZ-BD7H (shown here) is a hybrid with a 30 GB built-in HDD which can record up to four hours of 1920 x 1080 high-def video (4 hours of 1440 x 1080) and can also copy its contents from HDD to BD within the camera itself. Both models will be available in Japan at the end of August and will come across the seas in October, just in time for the Christmas Disc War to heat up.

CES 2007: JVC High Definition Everio GZ-HD7

JVC has just given out the details on their HD Everio camcorder. Recording at a full 1920 x 1080i resolution, the GZ-HD7 Everio outputs at a full 1:1 pixel ratio to high definition displays, which in turn results in an even higher quality image. The camera also features three 1/5-inch CCDs, USB 2.0, iLink / FireWire / IEEE 1394, and HDMI. Everios are also known for their built-in hard drives, allowing for tapeless recording. This one doesn’t disappoint, as it includes a 60 GB hard drive - not a ton of storage for recording 1080i video, but definitely enough for the average consumer/prosumer. This all comes to you at the price of $1,799.95 USD, and is scheduled for an April 2007 release.

Archos 604 WiFi Competes With Zune

Attempting to give the Zune a run for its money, the Archos 604 WiFi offers a viable alternative to web surfing or exchanging data over the Internet. With its 4.5-inch 450 x 272 touchscreen, Windows file sharing, and a version of the Opera browser, the Archos can record up to 30 GB from any home entertainment source and holds up to 130 hours of TV, 85 movies, 15,000 tunes, or 300,000 photos. It also sports a removable battery and kickstand for tabletop viewing.
Go for the optional DVR Station accessory and you can record TV in MPEG-4 with Archo’s StationBright 4.3-inch TFT LCD or transfer photos from your digital cameras. You can also turn the Archos into a camcorder with zoom, video effects, and music. The 604 is available online now for $349.99.

JVC Everio Line Goes High Definition

Here at Gear Live, we are totally into JVC’s Everio camcorder line of handhelds. At a recent press event at IFA in Berlin, they provided a sneak peek into the future, showing off a consumer model Everio that records in “Full HD” at 1920x1080 resolution. The camera will record to an internal hard drive like other Everio cameras, and will sport a 3-CCD chip along with the option to record at 50 or 60 Hz for worldwide HD video compatibility. The camera is still unnamed for now, and pricing details have yet to be announced. Expect to see this one drop in Spring 2007.
Hitachi Introduces DZ-GX3100E Camcorder

Hitachi’s new DZ-GX3100E Camcorder was previewed at the IFA in Berlin. Utilizing what they refer to as “Movie Master Technology”, this DVD Cam with a 1.3 Megapixel CCD records straight onto DVD disk and SD Memory Card. Using a USB 2.0, you can connect it to your PC to download your videos.
