Albums Proliferate In USB Flash Drive

Bedlam in Goliath Flash DriveMars Volta’s latest album, “The Bedlam in Goliath,” was released last month in a USB drive that included extras for $29.98. They have already sold out. We have mentioned the practice before and it seems to be spreading in popularity. Barenaked Ladies released Barenaked on a Stick in 2005 and since then other artists, such as JLo, have followed suit.

All Access, which put out drives by Ringo Starr and Matchbox Twenty, has gotten together with EMI, Warner Music Group and Universal Music to make USB bracelets. These have previously been sold at concerts from such musicians as Willie Nelson and the Black Crowes. If you saw the last Grammys, you might have noticed that Ringo wore one of his own. We call that free advertising at its finest.

Spread Your Tunes on IACmusic

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Music,

IACmusic logoIndependent Artist Company Music is apparently drumming up business, as we received an e-mail from them telling us that they thought we should open up an account. While it’s true we can’t play the violin, we thought the least we could do is let them know that we think that was a noble effort on their part. If you profess be an indie musical whiz, sign up for the service, build DMDs via their Ultrapage, then sell them and keep the profits. By the way, IAC has station managers to help you promote your tunes if they suspect you have talent.

(Thanks, Toby)

Big Names Attached to VMAs

MTV VMAEach year, the VMAs honor the artists that give us the most appealing music videos – somehow, the artists who get the nods are also top sellers. Beyonce and Justin Timberlake cleared seven nominations each, and both are up for video of the year. MTV’s glitzy awards show always features live music, celebrity interviews, and plenty of moon man statues. Beyonce got the video of the year nod for “Irreplaceable,” while Timberlake’s “What Goes Around…Comes Around” and “D.A.N.C.E.” both grabbed a spot in this best-of-the-best category. Amy Winehouse was nominated for “Rehab,” Rihanna for “Umbrella,” and Kanye West will compete with “Stronger” for video of the year.
