Let’s Create! Pottery review

Let's Create! Pottery from Infinite Dreams is not a new app, but it has remained rather unknown until recently when the company released the Let's Create! Pottery HD for iPad. This app is quite unique, and provides a very unusual experience. The basic premise is that you're looking at a spinning pot, which you shape with your fingers to create all sort of pots, vases and receptacles. The gestures are very intuitive, and reminiscent of working with real clay. You can make the object taller, shorter, smaller or bigger, and create all kind of rounded shapes for your works. Once you're done, you click on the firing icon and then the app will create the finished vase in beautiful 3D. The technology used to change that initial figure into a 3D vase is quite amazing.

Steve Rude Could Use Some Help

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Independent,

NexusSteve Rude has been having some financial difficulties. His story has been all over the internets, but in the event that some of you people (gasp) don’t read Tom Spurgeon’s The Comics Reporter or Heidi MacDonald’s The Beat or Robot 6, I’m directing you to Tom’s story.

The Dude’s been auctioning off some of his sweet, sweet Nexus original art on eBay to cover his debt and give him a shot at keeping his home from foreclosure. The prices are nice, but more importantly, this is going to a good cause. Nexus, written by Mike Baron and illustrated by The Dude, was one of the big independent creator-owned comic books to succeed in the growing direct market of the 1980s, and owning a piece of Steve’s fantastic art is like owning a piece of history.

Years ago, at the request of First Comics’ Rick Oliver, I once gave The Dude a ride from the San Diego Comic Con to LAX. We should all live so long to have a 2-hour ride with him in the car. Heidi MacDonald was also with us. Good times!

If you can spare the cash, if you like original art, if you like Nexus, help out the Dude.

Guillermo del Toro Announces Several Video Game Projects

guillermo del Toro gaming

Film director Guillermo del Toro, of Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy fame, is currently set to lend his artistic vision to a field that has long fought for its place in the artistic realm. The debate as to whether or not video games can be considered art was recently set ablaze when acclaimed film critic Roger Ebert blogged that “no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience [video games] as an art form”. While Ebert admits to having no desire to ever play a video game, hardly the same sentiment applies to del Toro, who previously stated that Flower is “like haiku poetry.” Almost a year later Ebert referred to the same game as “decorative interest on the level of a greeting card”. The two are definitely polar opposites when it comes to video games and art. However, with del Toro’s unique artistic direction poised to influence the gaming industry, can the opinionated Ebert change his anti-gaming ways? Or will del Toro’s gaming projects miss the mainstream mark like other filmmakers’ ventures into the gaming world?

Kate Moss Hires Banksy

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Models, Rumors,

Kate Moss by Banksy has commissioned Banksy to paint a mural in her mansion.

The supermodel - who recently splashed out on a top-of-the-range sauna and steam room for her $10.7 million north London home - is paying the British guerrilla artist $230,000 to create a custom-made “eclectic” painting of her on a wall inside her home.

“Kate is a big fan of Banksy and has several prints of his, plus a few originals, at her home. He has even done a portrait of Moss herself (picture to right). She explained exactly what she wanted and Banksy gave her a quote. It wasn’t cheap. Kate asked for an entire wall to be painted, showing Kate on the catwalk at all stages of her career - from a fresh-faced 16 year old to her last appearance earlier this year. It is pretty eclectic. Banksy has even been given a set of keys so he can let himself in,” a source said.

The 36-year-old catwalk beauty - who has asked for the painting to also feature a number of well known faces including her friends Sadie Frost, Naomi Campbell and - expects the artwork to increase the value of her home. The source added to the Daily Mirror, “Kate hopes the Banksy artwork, in addition to the work in her loft, will at least add $306,000 to the value of her house. She has thought all this through and hopes to make a considerable profit when she eventually sells up.”

Unannounced Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 faceplate (custom console?) spotted!

Final Fantasy XII Xbox 360 Faceplate

Our friends over at Gamertag Radio just posted a video promoting their Community Vibes 5 event (which takes place this Saturday) with Major Nelson, and we couldn’t help but notice what appears to be a yet-to-be-announced Final Fantasy XIII faceplate on Major’s desk! We haven’t seen or heard about this anywhere, so this may, in fact, be the first time it’s been seen in public. Even more interesting, though, is the fact that Microsoft has kind of forgotten about the whole faceplate-only thing, which leads us to believe that we may see a Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 bundle. If you wanna peep the video, we’ve got it for you after the break.

Iron Man MacBook Pro

MacBook decals aren’t new to us, heck I have mine decked out in the Snow’s Revenge vinyl myself, but this Iron Man decal kind of takes the cake in the awesomeness department. What do you think? Are you a fan of the decals? We like them way more than stickers, because they can be easily removed without leaving any sort of residue.

Elizabeth Taylor Made Hugh Grant Wealthy

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies,

Elizabeth Taylor Andy Warhol painting was drunk when he bought a painting of Elizabeth Taylor which made him $17.9 million.

The Did You Hear About the Morgans? star purchased the Andy Warhol painting in 2001 for $3.2 million and was praised for his knowledge of the art world when he sold it for $21.2 million in 2007.

But Hugh, 49, has confessed he ordered a member of his staff to bid for the painting at a New York auction during two-days of drinking.

“To my horror, she did, and even worse, got it. It all began with drink. I’d been having a drunken dinner with my father the night before, and I said, ‘We ought to go see my brother Jamie. You know, the Concorde’s amazing,’” he told the Daily Mail. “‘And he said, ‘I hear it is.’ So I bought him a Concorde ticket and we went. We had lunch, drank a lot of beer. And I was thinking about some stuff in the Sotheby’s auction and I saw the Liz Taylor. I slightly regret selling it now, even though it made me rich.”

The pop art painting was one of several portraits Warhol created at the height of his fame and creative output in the 60s.

Quote of the Day: Lady Gaga Takes Styling Cues From Art

Lady Gaga and her art-inspired outfits

“My Jean-Paul Goude [Matthew Williams was] the inspiration that made the connection for me between the art world and the fashion world. He used to say things like ‘If you want to make a shoulder pad, don’t research jackets—research sculpture, mineral rocks, paintings.’ He thinks in a different way; he is the designer of the future.”
