Mario Shroom Lamps Shine by USB
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Video Games, USB,
We cannot believe the overabundance of USB gadgets that continue to pour into our e-mail boxes at an alarming rate. It may have something to do with putting out one more gadget before the holidays that we cannot do without. We know we have lots of Mario fans out there so we had to include these Mushroom Lamps. Made with a white LED, it is 13 cm around with a base size of 10.8 x 14 cm and weighs 161g. If you don’t have an available USB port, just pop in 4 AA batteries (not included.) It available in three colors for only $13.00.

While we are on the subject of Elvis, we figure if you cannot afford the car, you can still have a piece of him with the Singing Mug. Light activated, lift it up and it starts crooning “Love Me Tender.” While we would much rather wake up to The Stones singing “Mother’s Little Helper,” this is at least a start and may give someone an entrepreneurial idea. A bit pricey at $71.00, it has an on/off switch when you have had your fill of caffeine and the King.

Toyota Bots Play the Violin
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Science, Videos,
Just as Honda publicly entered the field of robotics with its spokesrobot Asimo, Toyota has 3-upped them with their trio of Partner Robots. Designed to carry out simple tasks for its humans, the first two can not only be programmed for assistance to the infirm or elderly, they can literally play the violin and trumpet. Mobiro was designed as an advanced sort of wheelchair for those who have difficulty walking. Look for him to achieve the status of being a part of Tokyo Disney Theme Park in 2008. Visit Toyota’s site for more robots that are in various stages of R & D.

Futuro House Available for Non-Aliens
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Design, Smart Home,
Now is your chance to live in your own flying saucer. The Futuro House was designed in 1968/69 with a height of 500 cm, a diameter of 800 cm and a weight of 2200 kg. Made of glass fibre, it was meant to be mass produced inexpensively by the year 2000. It features 20 windows and a door with a flap that becomes a staircase and can be moved by helicopter. Made by Finnish metal worker Abloy Suomi, it was on sale at Christies in Paris November 27 but failed to bring in the expected quarter of a million dollars. We suspect that if you could come up with a figure close to that, they might be willing to let it go.

MultiBook Keeps Your Gadgets In One Tidy Space
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Portable Audio / Video,
MultiBook is designed to be a personal toolkit that can light your desk, keep time, day and date, and recharge your cell phone and MP3 player. It features a 3-way multi-socket and container for keeping cords free. The cover features an illuminated label for personal details and its sides contain 74 LEDs for diffused lighting. At a size of 34.1 x 14.6 x 20.5-inches, it comes in black, white, red, or blue for €152.25 ($221.58.) While we don’t see anything particularly outstanding about the Multibook for the price, it would make for a decent night light and glorified gadget box for keeping all your electronic toys together when you travel.

Instymeds Dispenses InstyDrugs
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Science,
It won’t be long before pharmacists are replaced by InstyMeds, vending machines that can be placed in clinics, hospitals, and doctors offices. The current model holds 100 different drugs and 8 to 22 bottles of each drug. It labels and dispenses tablets, capsules, inhalers, sprays, creams and ointments, suspensions and syrups. Using PC writing software, the physician merely enters the patient’s information. The patient then uses a touchscreen to enter name and date of birth, chooses a printed prescription or fills it there and inserts cash or credit card. Insurance companies are billed automatically for co-pays. Not only will this cut down on handwriting errors, it may cut back on pharmaceutical errors, as long as it is loaded properly.

2007 Holiday Gift Guide: Braun Pulsonic 9595
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Features, Smart Home, Men,

The Braun Pulsonic electric shaver tips the scales at about half a pound, but word on the street is that this is the smoothest electric shave you’ll find anywhere. It’s all in the pulsing head, which boasts 10,000 vibrations per minute, and the Power-Comb system that prepares your hair to be snipped. There’s also a base station that cleans the unit with alcohol while also charging it for the next use. It’s not all fun and games with the 9595, but truth be told, just because the base station has a larger than normal footprint and the cleaning system can be a bit loud, it isn’t enough to overlook this one.

Give the Gift That Never Shuts Up
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Toys,
We file this under what to give this Christmas, Chanukah, or Kwanza to someone who irritates you no end. The Money Monster says over 20 obnoxious things when you feed it coins or bills such as:
- “Money, money, in my tummy.”
- “Mmm, it tastes so good!”
- “Oh, yes, jingle, jingle, in my belly.”
Even better payback is that it often burps after a feeding and will harass passersby when it is neglected. At a size 7½ x 8¾ x 6-inches, it requires 3 AA batteries (included.) Choose between the pink MeMe and blue Gobble for $24.95 apiece.

Feel like Carpal Tunnel System is catching up with you more every day? Try the Far Infrared Thermal Patch for stress, achy muscles, or cramping. Hook it up to your PC by USB and its compact design issues 1.2 W of power at a temperature of 40 to 45º. Weighing only 30 g, we are thinking this might be nice for other body parts as well: our backs, our feet, our necks. This is quite a comfortable deal for only $22.00.

If you are looking for a non-traditional tree for the holidays, ETree may be the answer. The interactive electroluminescent lamp comes in a 15 x 15 x 8 cm size with 5 branches and a height of 50 cm, and a 30 x 30 x 15 cm floor model with 10 branches and a 150 cm height. Only for indoor use, we think that our neighbors would really be impressed by Kinetica Museum‘s creation which is available for £324.00 (~$666.00,) and £575.00 (~$1,200.00) respectively. It may be pricey, but think of how much you will save on ornaments and tinsel.
