Live At CES 2006: Hands On With Verizon UTStarcom XV6700 Windows Mobile 5 Device

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, CES, CES 2006, Features, Handhelds, Wireless / WiFi,

We just got our hands on the new Verizon XV6700 UTStarcom Windows Mobile device. This is the other WM 5.0 device available on Verizon’s network, and we are actually quite a bit more impressed with this one than with the Treo 700w, which launched yesterday. This one sports EV-DO, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 2.8-inch 65k color 240x320 display, 1.3 megapixel camera/MPEG-4 camcorder, MiniSD card support, and 64MB internal RAM. It also has a sliding QWERTY keyboard, which when opened, changes the display from portrait to landscape on the fly. The phone is available now to Verizon Wireless Business customers, and will be available to general consumers on January 19th at a price of $299 USD after $100 rebate and a two-year agreement. We have a few more images of the XV6700 after the jump.

SCOTTeVEST 237D Jacket Review

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Wearables, Features, Product Reviews,

The SCOTTeVEST 237D is the updated version of the Three.0 Spring jacket that we reviewed about a year-and-a-half ago. We have been testing out the 237D in Seattle weather for much of December, and are finding that the 237D moniker - which stands for “237 days,” meaning you can wear it for 3-out-of-4 seasons per year - lives up to its name for the most part. The 237D features 33 pockets, and adds the Detachable Cargo Cache, built-in battery holders, addition magnetic enclosures, and two more pockets than the Three.0 Spring. Check out the full review after the jump.

How To: Add Surround Sound To A Standard Office Chair

Posted by Jesse Easley Categories: Design, Features, Mods / Hacks,

I’ve been needing a new computer chair for a long time now, along with new computer speakers. I finally decided to go out and get them, and as I was shopping I couldn’t help but think about the prospect of combining the purchases, with the end result being a hybrid office chair-surround sound system. Sure, they make them - but doing it yourself is a lot cheaper, plus it would satisfy the geek within. Read on for details on how to do the same.

Swann DVR4-Net Four Camera Digital Recording System Review

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Cameras, Features, Product Reviews,

We took Swann super-nice security cameras for a spin, and tried to do things with them that they weren’t necessarily meant for in order to show how else they might be used. Here are the items we tested:
The Swann kit comes in two boxes with everything you need to create a fully functioning, impressive, security camera net, screws and all. You can use up to four cameras using one DVR. It records for up to a year with the lowest resolution, a 250GB hard drive (included if you option it, or you can supply your own), and 1 frame per second. You may record in a variety of ways which include, full screen standard definition, low definition with four simultaneous motion-activated shots (including motion-activated in particular areas of the image,) among others.
