This 2007 iF Design award winner features an integrated VGA cam and MP3 player, Bluetooth capability, and GSM and e-mail support. iplayer

Netgem has launched its iplayer, which allows download of subscription-free programs for as far back as a week for up to 30 days of HD playback. The device originated in 2003 as an IMP (integrated media player,) but now includes one touch recording, podcasts on TV, streaming radio, media sharing from your PC, music and video capture, PC exporting and auto-upgrades.
According to Screen Digest data, 520.2 million pieces of content were streamed in 2006, mostly for free. They believe this amount will jump to 2.3 billion by 2011. Contact Netgem if you would like to register for the iplayer, which is now is by invitation only, but will expand by the end of the summer. Frankly, we think Netgem should get together with Netflix, in light of its recent troubles.

Transformer SpeakerTransformer Connection

No sooner do we tell you about an MP3 player, dock, and earbuds made into Transformers than Brando lets us know that they now have a Transformer Speaker for your iPod or MP3 player. Bumblebee mixes beats with your music and will even light up and dance. Record up to one minute of music for play on this innovative gadget which comes at a size of 250 x 190 x 100 mm, weighs about 900g, and will set you back $58.90. The real question remains, though, that if you hook the Bumblebee up to the Music Label Soundwave will they fight or merely morph?

(Thanks, Fanny)

Björk Rockabye BabyWhen was the last time you played Metallica to rock your infants to sleep? Rockabye Baby has taken rock classics and transformed them into lullabies with the use of such instruments as the glockenspiel, vibraphone, and mellotron. Led Zepplin, Coldplay, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, U2, the Beatles, and Nine Inch Nails are just a few of the musical groups from which to choose. Buy three at $16.98 apiece and receive free shipping. We think this is an excellent idea to get any fussy baby to lie down and crash to some superior tunes.

XM Radio logo

As part of the effort to have their merger approved by the , former satellite radio rivals and introduced eight new pricing tiers they feel will be popular with current and new subscribers.  Included is an “A la Carte” option that allows listeners to choose up to 50 channels from one service, for $6.99/month, almost half the current $12.99 fee. However, “premium” channels (assumed to be the sports, Oprah and Howard Stern channels) will not be included. Another “A la Carte” option allows listeners to choose up to 100 stations (including “premium”), from both services, for $14.99. The catch? Pre-merger subscribers who choose either option will have to buy a new receiver. There are 6 other options, including one geared toward families and one for sports fans—that don’t require buying a new receiver. The two companies hope the FCC will approve their merger by the end of the year. As a subscriber to XM Radio for nearly 2 years, this writer is very enthusiastic about the proposed pricing, even if it means purchasing a new radio.

Simpsons Movie Soundtrack Donut

What is it about the last Friday of the month that inspires nationwide frenzy and anticipation? On June 26 it was the ’s debut, this July 27 it’s “The Simpsons Movie”. The past few weeks have been heaven for fans of the series, with a publicity juggernaut that includes turning 7-Eleven’s into exact Kwik-E-Mart replicas and even being able to Simpsonize yourself online. Now comes the Limited Edition soundtrack, which is not only scored by prolific Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer, but is packaged in a Homer-tastic plastic donut with pink frosting and sprinkles. We absolutely love it. They’re currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com for $21 USD, and will ship July 31.  We highly suspect this one will sell out fast.

Grillo the ClownSuperfrothco appears to be the first independent record label to switch its format to Flash Drive alone. Its debut album will be from Jeffrey Scott Holland in September, who performs a combination of modern jazz, cabaret, dixieland and show tunes. The company will also be releasing the back-catalogued Hasil Adkins “Night Life” and the soon to be released Grillo the Clown, a Kentucky street performer whose thing leans mostly towards the Weird Al variety. We are thinking that if more record companies begin to do the same, they might want to start including a package deal that would include a hub with every few purchases.
