One generation removed from it’s 100 model, it is made of stainless steel and crystal and comes in Classic, Executive, and Sporty designs. Designed to go with their Walkman phone, the timepiece features a remote control for the music player and shows what track is playing on the watch face. Keane AlbumUniversal Music will begin releasing singles on USB memory sticks October 29 to compensate for the decreasing sales of CDs. The first releases will be those by the rock band Keane and Pussycat Doll Nicole at a price of ~$10.00. The company is counting on the slightly more expensive price as being agreeable to consumers because of the additional storage space. EMI plans to release Pink Floyd’s studio album on the same format, while Warner is planning a November release of the electro-punk band Hadouken.

Pacemaker

The Pacemaker can turn anyone into a portable DJ, or at least will give that impression. The black handheld device has a 120 GB hard drive inside the system that they describe as “peanut butter and jelly sandwich size.” It has the ability to preview tracks, adjust speed, split and cut loops, alter levels, add special effects, and more. One side has a color display and the other a touchpad, and it will support almost any audio files. The Pacemaker comes with software for mixing and will save the results automatically. Both PC and Mac compatible, the included charger allows 7 hours of use or 20 hours of listen time. The device will be available December in Europe and early next year in the U.S. for €520 (~$743.00,) which will give you plenty of time to save up for the purchase.

Napster logoNapster has decided to change their service to a web-based platform so users will no longer be required to download its software. Napster’s current subscription service is offered for $10.00 to $20.00 per month for unlimited usage, but they don’t seem to be able to keep up with the iTunes store which has a flat fee of 99 cents per tune. Christopher Allen of Napster feels that the move will be easier to integrate than their present method and foresees the end of DRM with major music companies by the end of 2008. If this idea becomes reality and other companies follow suit, we may soon see the end of small music shops the way that neighborhood video stores have gone now that downloading is easily and readily available.

YouTube CopyrightYouTube has finally released the means to automatically remove copyrighted clips. Although it has been eliminating most of those videos per request, the site is hoping that this will have a more positive impact on complaints such as Viacom’s suit against them. Working with its parent Google, the technology also allows companies to sell ads on their material if they will allow them to remain on YouTube. Unfortunately, the method of copyright protection requires copies of the videos that need protecting to be given to YouTube for comparison. This certainly doesn’t appear to be the solution that the studios desire and we suspect that YouTube will have to go back to the drawing board on this one.
