iPhone FaceTime Setting

is one of the major new features that set the smartphone apart from others, but we’ve been hearing that quite a few people are unable to place a FaceTime call from their iPhone 4, despite both parties being connected to Wi-Fi, which is the only requirement. In fact, we had the same issue when we tried to fire up our first FaceTime chat while at the Apple Store during iPhone 4 launch. I immediately walked over the to Genius Bar, figuring that my iPhone 4 wasn’t recognizing the fact that it had a front-camera or something, and the Genius was stumped, too. He was also in charge of handing out iPhone 4 units, so we didn’t have his full attention anyway. While he was doing his thing, we looked through the Settings area to see if there might be something there. As it turns out, there was.

For whatever reason, not all iPhone 4s are shipping with FaceTime enabled. The person I was with had just bought his iPhone 4, same as I did, and his had FaceTime enabled by default, while mine was disabled by default—both straight out of the box. If you are experiencing the same, first thing you should do is go into Settings, then Phone. Right beneath your phone number will be the FaceTime toggle. Switch it to “ON” and you are good to go.

iPad 3G at&t data plan

Remember that AT&T iPad 3G data plan bait-and-switch that we were so upset about a few weeks ago? Well, it turns out that many people felt the same way as there’s now a class-action lawsuit filed against Apple and AT&T due to the situation. Specifically, the plaintiffs in the nationwide suit claim that both Apple and AT&T “deceptively promoted” that they could start and stop the iPad 3G plan at any time, and switch between the unlimited plan and the 250MB plan. Now customers who opt for the unlimited plan cannot switch back to a limited plan, or start and stop service at will, as originally promised.

Hit the link below to check out the details from law firm Lieff Cabraser, and if you have thoughts on the issue, you can submit them through their contact form.

White iPhone 4 delay

It’s the eve before the official launch of the , despite some buyers getting theirs early, and we were still left wondering what exactly happened to the white iPhone 4—until now. Apple has finally ponied up with some info, letting us know that the reason for the delay is simply that the white model is “more challenging to manufacture than expected.” If you wanna get one of the white models, you’ll have to wait until the second half of July, which is when Apple expects to have everything sorted out. You can read their official statement below:

Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4

White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

So, you gonna wait?

Motorols Droid X Verizon

A few minutes ago and got together to announced the new Android smartphone, and we’ve got all the details for you. First and foremost, the Droid X will ship with Android 2.1 and a new customized UI. It boasts a 4.3-inch 854x480 display, 1GHz TI OMAP 3640 processor, 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, 720p video capture, and 8GB internal storage. It’s also got a flash card port that supports up to 32GB of storage, and the phone does ship with a 16GB card. The Droid X can also act as a mobile hotspot, providing WiFi access to up to five other devices, multitouch keyboard (thank you!), DLNA support, and even an HDMI out.

We know you are wondering when Froyo (Android 2.2) will hit the phone, and Verizon says that will happen later this summer, alongside Flash 10.1 support. You’ll be able to pick up the Droid X on July 15th from Verizon Wireless for $199.99 with two-year contract after rebate (rebate? really? still?) and if you wanna add the hotspot feature, that will be an extra $20 per month with a 2GB cap. Similar to how AT&T made all customers with upgrade dates through 2010 eligible for the right away, Verizon is doing the same for the Droid X.

iPhone 4 delivery

Well, look what we have here—it turns out that this year has decided not to have FedEx hold on to deliveries of the until release day (they did this with the iPhone 3G and 3GS,) and is instead letting deliveries happen naturally. The result? Some lucky folks are reporting that they’ve received their iPhone 4 today, two days before they go on sale at Apple retails stores and other third-party locations. Others have a delivery date set for tomorrow, giving them a one-day head start on all that FaceTime goodness.

So, what about all of the others who opted to reserve at a store and wait in line? Looks like it’s gonna remain that way. We must say, though, it’s kind of a low blow by Apple. The fact is that just about everyone who reserved and will be waiting in line for hours at an Apple Store to pick up the iPhone 4 opted to do so in order to be one of the first to have the device. Seriously, they aren’t there because they need help importing their contacts or installing apps. Now that iPhone 4 units are being delivered, it would have been cool of Apple to start sending emails to those who reserved, letting them come in and pick up their iPhone 4 starting today, saving those customers from lining up in the wee hours of the morning.

Amazon Kindle price drop

The ebook reader wars are kicking into high gear today, as earlier Barnes & Noble announced a price drop for the nook, and now Amazon has responded with a big price drop on the . The same 3G-powered Kindle that sold for $259 this morning is now available for just $189. That’s $10 less than the 3G nook, and $40 more than the Wi-Fi-only nook model. Competition is always a good thing. Here are the links:

Nook Wi-Fi 3G

If the $259 Barnes & Noble was too rich for your blood, but you’ve been wanting a quality e-reader, you are gonna wanna take a second look at what B&N has to offer. Today they’ve announced that they have cut the price of the 3G nook by $60—that means you can get the same nook that launched at $260 for $199 starting today. However, we think it’s safe to say that most people don’t really have a need for the 3G that’s built into the nook. It’s easy enough to log on to Wi-Fi and load up on books before you leave the house, or even at a hotspot. That said, B&N has also just announced a Wi-Fi-only nook, and that costs just $149. That is a fantastic deal, and we suggest that you jump on it if you were on the fence previously. In fact, to us, it looks like the best deal in the e-reader world to date.

You can buy the B&N nook at the new prices now.

iPhone 4 verizon cdma

You know, the Verizon iPhone rumor mill just won’t let up, but this time we are paying a bit more attention. According to Digitimes, has put in orders to have a CDMA manufactured. If that is the case, that really could only mean that the iPhone is coming to Verizon and/or Sprint. Of course, we won’t know if any of this means anything until Apple tells us it does.

Hyundai Equus 2011 iPad

How’s this for luxury? The 2011 Hyundai Equus will include a 16GB Wi-Fi with every purchase. What’s the connection? Well, Hyundai is trying to be cool, so rather than including a printed manual with the vehicle, the manual will actually be included on the iPad as a custom app. Not only that, but it will come with a custom leather case with an embossed logo, suede on the inside, and the case will double as a stand. Oh, and the manual will include a bunch of video content showing you how to use different features of the Equus. Any updates to the manual will come through iTunes, like any other app. Definitely unique, and a way to stand out from the crowd.
