It’s been awhile since we heard from Tokyo Flash and see that they have another new watch to confuse us. Their Oberon S-Mode series has a stainless steel body with full face black mineral crystal lens. The blue LEDs are a bit simpler to read than some of their others, with the outer ring as the hour, the second showing minutes, and the inner one is minutes in groups of ten. Another button push and you get the date. At a size of 38 x 38 x 11 mm and a weight of 150g, the Oberon carries a price of ¥15,900 (~$159.25.)

NES Controller/Coffee table/Storage box

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Misc. Tech, Video Games,
We dig this NES controller/coffee table/storage box that actually works! Kyle Downs created the design for the top by scanning his controller for measurements. After building the piece with wood and painting it, he covered it with glass. You can get full instructions and see the process on his site to learn how to assemble your own. Maybe Kyle will show us how to make a Super Mario ‘Shroom stool next.

What does one do if she/he still has some of their old Nintendo games and a Zapper gun lying around? In the case of “fluffypants,” you turn them into a lamp. Using an inexpensive lampshade, a pack of fun foam, and a cardboard base designed to look like the original Duck Hunt cartridge, she shows you full instructions to create your own. Maybe next week she will turn other Nes games into coasters or bookcases.

orbitsound T3, Music in the Air

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Music, Portable Audio / Video,
The orbitsound T3 is a device that you wear around your neck, plug in your MP3 player, iPod, music phone, PSP, or PMP, and you get what the company calls “music in the air.” Battery powered, it is about the size of a cellie, is portable and lightweight, and features full airSound stereo. We were a bit curious about how it worked and discovered that the gadget “uses your chest cavity as a resonator to reinforce the sound from the unit when worn around your neck.” Uh-huh. We understand it will also work with a PC, TV, or desktop stereo and suspect that this is not an inexpensive gadget, as no price was available. Contact orbitsound for more details.

We have seen lots of clothing for catching WiFi signals, so it is no surprise that Nike Dunks have the same built-in. Named “A Step in the Right Direction,” the sneakers were designed by MSTRPLN and Ubiq. There are 3 LEDs on the flap enclosure that will go solid when it registers a signal up to 50 meters. These are not the kind of shoes to wear on a rainy day, we suspect. Contact Nike for price and availability.

Paradise Image SunSpa for Pets

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Design, Misc. Tech,
Paradise Image has developed the SunSpa for your pets. The company says it is the equivalent of sunlight shining through a window. The wooden arch has a temperature range of 80 to 85º at 150 watts for about 5,000 hours. The pad folds up for easy storage and its cover is odor, stain, and water resistant. The unique item will be on display May 16 to 18 at the Baltimore Pet Spring Trade Show, if you happen to be in the area. We are hoping the SunSpa will be so popular that the company will make one for humans.

No, this is not your mind on drugs. It is actually a nifty HTML Graph Applet created by Sala, who says that more than one million graphs have been made since it was put online. Insert a simple url and comes up with some amazing patterns. Because it works with flash, if you have an older computer, it will take some time to come up with the final image.
Here is the translation for the colors:
- blue: for links (the A tag)
- red: for tables (TABLE, TR and TD tags)
- green: for the DIV tag
- violet: for images (the IMG tag)
- yellow: for forms (FORM, INPUT, TEXTAREA, SELECT and OPTION tags)
- orange: for linebreaks and blockquotes (BR, P, and BLOCKQUOTE tags)
- black: the HTML tag, the root node
- gray: all other tags

What better way to remind your child that she/he is on their way to obesity than to present them with a pair of FATS (Fitness Achievement Technology System) shoes. Created by students from the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands, the more the kids work out, the more the color appears. This is accomplished by a motion sensor integrated into the shoe’s heel that, along with glass fiber yarn woven on the outside, reflects the light from LEDs. While we think that most kidlets we know would prefer being rewarded with a twinkie or more video game time for exercising, we suspect that this prototype may work on the same little ones that wear those blinking light shoes for safety reasons.
