Antec Fanpal

There are so many unique USB devices out there, that it seems many have lost focus of what the USB slot is meant for. Today, we tried out a device that is marginally unique, but seems old-school due only to the fact that so many other USB devices are just too zany. We just received this interesting USB device from Antec which they are calling the FANPAL. You see, it’s cool because it’s spelled with all CAPS. Nonetheless, we just hooked it up and have a few short impressions of the device, which you can check out after the jump.

Oh, by the way, we are giving one of these away. Go win it.

We must admit - the time we have spent with any Vaja product we have been able to get our hands on has been a joy. The craftsmanship behind these cases is top notch, and in our experience, can’t be beat. We recommend these two cases in particular:

i-Vod Video

The Vaja iVod is a great case, and the company has just announced the i-Vod Video for the new video iPod. It protects the iPod, and is one of the few protective cases that is actually visually appealing. Many will find this product to be perfect, as it protects the screen, and has an option to even protect the click wheel as well. Expect to pay at least $70, but part of that high cost is the Vaja Choice customization options, which is a great service. Check out our

review of the 4th generation iVod DJ here.

iVolution PSP Case

The i-Volution is the ultimate PSP case in terms of design and protection. It is lightweight, but firm enough to protect the PSP when in a backpack, or even if dropped a few feet. The leather looks and feels spectacular as well. This product is solid. The only downside would be price. $180 USD can get you a lot of things in terms of games and accessories. This one is for the elite - if you want to show off a little, this is the thing to get. You can read our full review of the PSP i-Volution here.

Diode WatchOur friends over at OhGizmo got their hands on a TokyoFlash Diode watch, and put up a pretty thorough review of the device, culminating with:

The point is the watch is the epitome of geek chic. It’s manly, it’s made of stainless steel, it’s got LEDs, looks unusual and attention grabbing. It doesn’t just tell the time, it makes you decipher it. The timepiece costs $150 and ships from Japan.

Being fiends for unique watches, (heck, we are giving one away in our Holiday Gift Guide!) we had to share this one. Check out the full review at OhGizmo.

Description

This product really was a pleasant surprise. Most of the things we review at Gear Live are gadgets with interesting or fun gimmicks that make them must-haves or horrible failures. The thing about the SLEEPTRACKER is that it doesn’t provide anything “fun” or “cool” per se. Instead, they have developed a product that actually improves your quality of life. Waking up fully energized on a daily basis is just amazing. It is almost as if there is no lost time, and you just want to seize the day. The product did exactly what it said it would do, and because of that, it gets our highest honor. This one comes very highly recommended. Check out our full review of the SLEEPTRACKER here.

We like the GameDr. Motorized UMD Cartridge Cleaner because it is simple to use, and it provides a nice solution to the difficult task of cleaning your PSP discs. For $20 USD, this ultra-portable stocking stuffer cleans dust, dirt, and fingerprints from your UMD discs in a very ingenious way. The UMD hooks on to the cleaner using a magnet, and a piece of cloth aligns perfectly into the notch on the underside of any UMD game or movie. We put up a video, which you can see above, so you can see how it looks in motion.

Invisible Shield Set-up

It’s no secret that the iPod is easily scratched and now with the introduction of the “nano black” iPods, scratches seem to find their way on these high priced devices even easier and more noticeable than ever before. So what do you do about it other than yell, fall to the floor and start crying? Shell out $24.95 for a protective covering that promises to keep your new toy shiny and scratch free. We were able to get one at the same time that we purchased a 60 GB black iPod and share our experience after the jump.

MyPodSack BeanPod

This one is for those out there who feel their iPod needs a

scrotum

beanbag to rest on while it charges at the end of the day. The BeanPod holds the iPod charger internally, and can dock a 30 GB iPod, iPod nano, or iPod mini. They say it can even charge cell phones as well, if that’s your thing. They retail for $25 USD, but it looks like MyPodSack is all out of them, and is now looking for a manufacturer and distributer to partner with to get more of these things out.

CanaryWireless Digital Hotspotter

Walking around, it was way more convenient to break out the Digital Hotspotter with the one-button operation and all. No need to stop, open up the PowerBook, and search for a signal. However, we found another nice benefit. Since the Hotspotter tells you the channel of any network you are near, you can use this to your advantage in your home. If you find a neighbor is on channel 1, and another is on channel 3, you know to set yours up near 11 to reduce interference. This is one device we are recommending to anyone that uses Wi-Fi. It’s simple - but it’s that good. You can pick one up for about $60 USD, and the batteries last for about two months. Check out our full review here.
