E200 EcoSamsung took the opportunity of utilizing the Olympics to introduce its new E200 Eco Cell Phone. Instead of being made of petroleum-based polycarbonate plastic, this one is made of bio-plastics that is created out of corn. Even the box has been made of non-coated, recycled paper. The Eco will debut in September and is part of their environmentally friendly line that includes the W510, which is also made of bio-plastic, and the F268, a BFR/PVC free mobile phone.

KaptenNever get lost jogging again. The French company Kapsys has unveiled their Kapten mini portable GPS device without a screen. Designed for pedestrians rather than vehicles, its interface works with voice recognition or text-to-speech. At a size of only 74 x 44 x 13mm and a weight of 50g, it has TeleAtlas from France but other cities are downloadable. The Kapten has a SiRF Star III receiver and can hold up to 4GB memory. It also can do Bluetooth and is an MP3 player and FM tuner. Look for a mid-September launch for £150 (~$300.00.)

Hummer H2

AM General, the company that makes the Hummer H2 for GM, is hoping to make wheelchair-accessible vehicles by 2010. The car will be made for the U.S. and Canada and will include an automatic ramp that will be able to handle wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobile devices. They say they already have reservations for 3,500 units. Since GM has mentioned that other parties might be interested in its Hummer brand, it will be interesting to see if this will be another carrot or a last ditch effort by the company to keep those gas-hogs on the road.

e-skinJapan’s Tokyo University researcher Tsuyoshi Sekitani and team have created e-skin. Carbon nanotubes are combined with an iconic liquid and then added to rubber. The result is that it can feel heat and pressure the same as human skin. Applications include being used in steering wheels to determine body temperature to see if the driver should operate his/her vehicle, as a mattress cover for those who are bedridden to gauge body pressure, and of course the obvious, robot skin.

Good news for PC Gamers. Take Two Rockstar Games has announced that it is releasing the computer version of Grand Theft Auto IV on Nov. 18 in North America as well as Nov. 21 in Europe. The version will include a newly expanded multi-player feature. Approximately 3.6 million units sold in its first day, and the company says that in its first week it generated $500 million.

Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser said, “We are very excited to be releasing the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV. The whole team is dedicated to bringing an amazing gaming experience to the PC.”

We expect they are also looking forward to a greater profit.

So, you know that game we have all been waiting for, for, like, ever? Well, according to EA and Maxis, Will Wright’s next gaming masterpiece is finally ready for prime time, as they have announce that the game has gone gold. What does that mean? To put it simply, it’s done. In the can. The game will hit store shelves on September 5 here in North America, as well as Asia Pacific. For those in Europe, September 7 is the date for you.

We know, this is a long ways away from Q4 2006, when the game was supposed to launch, but when it comes to Spore, we will take what we can get.
