PGR3 Real Life Comparison

Someone over in Japan took some pictures of different locations that are featured in PGR3. In the linked forum post, the real-life photos are placed immediately above the shots of the sites in PGR3. As you’ll see, PGR3 has the details down almost perfectly.

Japanese Box Art

Hardcore Gaming 101 has posted an interesting feature, entitled ‘Japanese Artwork of Western Games’. Basically, the story features image comparisons of U.S. game box arts (for games like Prince of Persia, Halo, and Ratchet and Clank) compared with their respective Japanese artwork. Some of the Japanese artwork is anime, and we were honestly surprised by a few of the boxes.

This is one of those absolutely wonderful little powertips we’re always thrilled to find. With a simple download of Microsoft’s PowerToys TweakUI (which offers a bunch of other fun goodies for XP) and a quick registry add-in, you can have your system boot up, log you in and lock your machine, so that when you get back to your system, everything’s already loaded and ready, awaiting your password. No more two minute wait until the login screen, and three minutes to the desktop. Now, it’s just five solid minutes.

It might not be very useful if you’re not the type who shuts down often, but BrainFuel cites the perfect example: an uninterrupted boot-up cycle lets you go get coffee or chill at the water cooler.

Check out the full step-by-step over there. It’ll take less than three minutes, and the registry “hack” is the harmless act of placing a “lock computer” command in your startup profile, so no worries there.

Nintendo DS SPAccording to various sources online, Nintendo is set to unveil a new design for its portable DS system very soon. PopCap GamesSure, we’ve always know that games are good for your brain - but the general public hasn’t. PopCap, a casual games designer, has joined up with The Games For Health Project ““to gather, evaluate, and share research on the use of digital games and cognitive health.” Sounds good to us. Once the study’s completed (and it shows that games are indeed good for our brains) then hopefully the masses will come to appreciate games moreso.

American Wasteland

While some gamers have complained over the years about the Tony Hawk series and a supposed “lack of originality,” the series is still selling surprisingly well - apparently not everyone feels that the games have become stale. I, for one, have always been a huge fan of the Hawk series and I really enjoyed American Wasteland. While some other Xbox/PS2/Gamecube Activision games haven’t sold as well as expected, it looks like Hawk’s probably at least meeting expectations. Activision also had a big hit on their hands with Call of Duty 2, the biggest seller at the Xbox 360 launch.

PS3 Price

According to Chris Morris, of CNN/Money, we can expect the PS3 to retail for more than the Xbox 360 launched at. Another analyst, P.J. McNealy, suggested that the machine could actually retail for $700 USD. I highly doubt the machine will go for $700, but $500 doesn’t seem completely out of range. The PS3’s cost will be driven up due to the inclusion of a Blu-Ray drive. Of course there are plenty of consumers out there who would be willing to pay a premium for the PS3 since it will allow for high definition movies and gaming all in one box, unlike the Xbox 360. It’s all still up in the air though - but maybe we’ll know more by E3?

Jack ThompsonOh Jack, what are we going to do with you? The lawyer who wants you to stop playing video games is at it again. This time though, in an interview with NetJack, he says that video games are “masturbatory” and that they’re not healthy. Hey Jack, you know that most people are able to put down a video game controller right? Heck, I just got back from the gym.
