iPawWhile never having experienced the phenomenon myself, I hear that dogs like to get a hold of miscellaneous items with the intent to chew them to shreds. Of course, this would be particularly bad if Fido grabbed hold of an expensive gadget.  Now, replace your iPod with an iPaw, and the internal squeaky toy keeps your dog at bay for hours on end (we would imagine.) The “device” features a tiny dog print where the click-wheel might be, and a gray (silver) back with a larger paw print. The iPaw is about 5-inches tall, and retails for $10.50.

MactallicsApple fans do know that there really isn’t much variety as it pertains to the color of their desktop computers. In the past, if you wanted to add stunning color to your iMac, ColorWare PC happened to be your only option. We have talked about ColorWare’s service in the past, and we have been genuinely impressed. However, getting them to paint your iMac will run you over $400. Instead, why not go the cheap man’s route? Mactallic aims to pretty up your iMac using overlays that are available in silver, blue, pink, green, black, and orange. The price is $39.95 for the 17-inch iMac, and $44.95 for the 20-inch iMac.

ExpressCardRemember all those rumors that started spreading as soon as Steve jobs announced the MacBook Pro, stating that ExpressCard EV-DO devices might be available right around the time that the MacBook Pro hits retail? Turns out we still have yet to hear any news on which companies are close to finalizing an EV-DO card for the new Apple notebook (as well as the Windows laptops that use the Core Duo chip from Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, etc.) One thing is for certain - we know of a lot of people that are holding off on the upgrade to the MacBook Pro from their PowerBook, pending the release of some sort of EV-DO solution. Here’s to hoping that we hear something next month at CTIA. MacBook Pro owners - how are you getting around the whole ExpressCard issue in the meantime?

Wicked Lasers

Not sure if you noticed, but the guys over at Wicked Lasers are on a mega advertising spree across the Interweb right now. Almost everywhere I look - including our own AdSense ads - I am seeing Wicked Lasers. Recently, we hooked up with them and got our hands on a couple of their lasers. We wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Turns out, these things are, um, wicked cool. We shot some video of us playing with the lasers, which will be featured in an upcoming episode of The Bleeding Edge. For now, know that we were able to successfully burn letters into plastic bags by using the lasers to melt the plastic, and that is just the beginning of some of the fun we had with these things.

The two lasers we have in our possession are the 100mW red colored Pulsar, along with the 125mW green Fusion. Believe it or not, the green laser can go 50 miles. We have a bunch more images of these two products, which you can check out after the jump.

iPod Leather Case

At today’s Apple event, Steve Jobs unveiled a new leather iPod case. The case is hand-crafted from Italian leather, and features a black ribbon that pulls your iPod from within. Nice to see the company finally providing something more than a thin piece of felt to store your iPod in, but couldn’t they have taken the hint from just about every other case manufacturer and given us the option of seeing the screen? Apple’s own case hides the iPod display, and doesn’t even give access to the controls of the device. This one doesn’t get our vote. Still, if you want it, you can get one for $99 USD for either the 5G iPod, or the iPod nano (which requires less material to construct, but costs just as much.)

iPod Hi-Fi

The biggest of the “fun new” Apple products of the day turns out to be the iPod HiFi Boombox. Calling the new accessory “Home Stereo. Reinvented,” the product shares some of the features of the iPod, but with the quality of a home stereo device. The boombox is a three-driver system enclosed in one unit, featuring an iPod dock right at the top. If you have an iPod shuffle, you can use the auxiliary inputs in the back to connect the device. The nice thing about the dock is that it will fit any of the dockable iPod models using inserts. The iPod Hi-Fi has built-in handles on both sides, making it portable. The power supply is built into the unit, so no need to lug around a bulky power brick. Even better, though, is that is can run on six D batteries. Nice for when you forget to bring your electricity generator with you to the beach.

Behind the black grating lie two 80 millimeter mid-range driver with sealed acoustic suspension, along with a 130 millimeter dual-voice coil woofer. In order to enjoy the iPod Hi-Fi to the fullest, you will need to download an iPod update that will be made available shortly. This will add a new “Speaker” menu item to the iPod menu interface, giving you control over tone, backlight, and album art settings. The iPod Hi-Fi can be controlled with the Apple Remote, which comes bundled with the unit. It can also accept audio input through an auxiliary jack and SPDIF optical audio input, which means it can be used with non-iPod audio players. Our only concern is the lack of an FM tuner. I mean, would that have been so hard? You can pick up an iPod Hi-Fi starting today for $349 USD.
