Taylor Momsen Inspired by Nirvana

Taylor Momsen became a rock musician after growing up listening to AC/DC and Nirvana.
The Pretty Reckless frontwoman - currently working on a follow-up to the group's 2010 debut Light Me Up - was inspired to start making heavy rock 'n' roll music by her father's albums.
"My dad has a massive record collection. So I grew up listening to vinyl, you know all the classics, Beatles, Zeppelin, Who, Pink Floyd, you know AC/DC, Soundgarden, Nirvana. So I just, I kind of grew up with it, and it just stuck," she said.
The 18-year-old singer-and-actress was "so excited" when the "Miss Nothing" hitmakers completed their debut album, but she thinks it's the "most incredible feeling in the world" when fans sing her own songs back to her during live performances: "Finishing the record was the first thing. When it was actually done, you know, I was so excited. But then, you know writing any type of song - any time you finish something that's like the best feeling in the world. And then what comes after that is playing it live, and then from, translating from playing it live to having the fans sing every word to every song back to you is just the most incredible feeling in the world."

Paul McCartney Named Artist of the Year
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Awards, Rock,
Paul McCartney has been named Artist of the Year at the inaugural Ultimate Classic Rock Awards.
The 69-year-old musician beat off strong competition from Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx, Chickenfoot's Sammy Hagar and Alice Cooper to take home the honour with 34 per cent of the vote in the poll.
"The 69-year-old McCartney had his (meat-free) plate full for all of 2011. Whether it was releasing re-issues of his two truest solo efforts, McCartney and McCartney II, collaborating with the New York City Ballet, producing a film marking the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 or embarking on his huge On the Run tour, he pretty much did it all. Congratulations, Paul!" said a statement on ultimateclassicrock.com.
AC/DC were the big winners with wins in three categories including Best Reissue or Archival Release, Best DVD and Best Commercial while Chickenfoot received two gongs, Album of the Year for Ill and Song of the Year for "Big Foot." Slash took home the Best Live Album gong, with his former band Guns 'N Roses voted Tour of the Year and Ozzy Osbourne won Best Box Set. 230,000 votes were cast in the 2011 Ultimate Classic Rock Awards.

Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” has been voted as having the best guitar riff of all time.
The 1970 track beat Guns N’ Roses classic “Sweet Child O’Mine” - which topped the poll five years ago - to the top spot in the poll by website MusicRadar.com, with “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin coming third.
Just two songs from the past decade made the list; Muse’s 2001 hit “Plug In Baby” came in at #11 while The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” which was released in 2003, landed at #15.

Has the Britney Spears hype already died down?
Just one week after debuting at #1, the pop princess has already been dethroned. Unfortunately, Circus wasn’t topped by a new entry. Spears was actually surpassed by Taylor Swift.
Fearless, which has been out since November 11, jumped 23% over the last seven days. Swift sold 249,000 units besting Spears by 49,000. (Circus fell 60% from last week’s 505,000 achievement.) Beyonce’s release came in third during this round.
You can see the remaining Top Ten charters after the jump.

Twilight Soundtrack Tops Music Charts
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: The Charts, Soundtracks,
The second phase of Twilight domination is officially complete.
Now that we’re just eight days away from the big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s novel, it’s becoming increasingly impossible to avoid anything with Robert Pattinson’s face on it. The mania over the best-selling book has inspired collector’s edition magazine covers (EW), news packages (Nightline) and sight-seeing tours (Forks, WA). It’s even evolved into a #1 album.
After two turns at the top of the charts, AC/DC’s Black Ice was just dethroned by the soundtrack for the vampire-themed movie. Although Twilight is now the third soundtrack this year to reach #1 (following Juno and Mamma Mia!), it’s the only one since 2006’s Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies for Curious George to debut there.
Twilight - which includes tracks from Linkin Park, Muse and Paramore - sold 165,000 units last week. AC/DC came in second with 160,000 while High School Musical 3 came in third with 110,000.
