Box Office Breakdown: Ben Stiller Defeats Christian Bale

Was it a result of Christian Bale’s rant? The presence of that other science fiction movie? Or the lack of family-friendly fare?
When the dust from the weekend settled, a surprising entry emerged as the winner. Despite the country’s current love for action sequels/prequels, a much calmer feature - Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian - was the choice for entertainment this holiday. Ben Stiller’s comedy follow-up raked in $70 million giving the actor his best live-action debut ever. Smithsonian also became the best PG-rated opener for Memorial Day.
Museum‘s victory meant a disappointing 2nd place finish for Terminator Salvation. Although the saga’s fourth installment earned more than T3‘s debut, its $51.9 million gross ($65.3 million since Thursday) put it nowhere near the estimated $200 million budget. The numbers did give director McG, though, his best premiere since 2000’s Charlie’s Angels.

Lindsay Lohan Replaces Katie Holmes
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
No, Linds isn’t hooking up with Tom Cruise…but she is stepping into the movie role recently vacated by his wife. Lohan will take on the female lead in The Other Side, a role which received heavy input from Katie Holmes, who was all set to take on the project.
David Michaels, who will direct the film, said he and Holmes shared many ideas and discussions while Cruise worked on Valkyrie. Funding for the flick fell off for a while, however, and finally Holmes had to bow out of the project. She went on to Broadway and All My Sons.
This left the door open for Lindsay Lohan, whom I guess got the role because of her very wide availability (it’s been a while since Linds had any film work). She’ll join a cast that includes Jason Lee, Alanis Morissette, Dave Matthews, Woody Harrelson and Giovanni Ribisi.

Jessica Biel Sings for Easy Virtue Soundtrack
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Videos,
We already know that Justin Timberlake can sing, dance and act—but does his girlfriend have more than one talent?
Later this summer, Jessica Biel will be taking a break from the small screen to test out her chops in a smaller forum. “I auditioned for a summer production of Guys and Dolls at the Hollywood Bowl. I thought, ‘Well, I’m not a soprano anymore, but I guess I’ll go in for it.’ I literally walked in and said, ‘I can do this song but we’re going to have to drop it down a few notes.’ Actually, I did pretty well and I got the part of Sandy, which I’ll be performing later this summer,” Biel told Parade.

Even though I am one of the few who has not yet seen or read Twilight, I didn’t have a hard time appreciating this.
Think Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine are the only ones being harassed these days? Well, you’re wrong. This ugly confrontation with actor Cam Gigandet (Twilight‘s James) proves rabid fans can come in many forms.

Cher to star alongside Christina Aguilera in Burlesque
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Musicals, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
Cher is in talks to star in Burlesque. The 63-year-old singer-and-actress is being lined up to appear alongside Christina Aguilera in the new movie musical as a Los Angeles burlesque club owner. Christina stars in the lead role as a small-town girl who works at the club and follows her dreams, with Cher acting as her mentor guiding her along.
According to movie bosses, Burlesque was written specifically for Christina. Clint Culpepper, from Screen Gems, the studio making the film, said: “I couldn’t be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind.” This is the first time Christina, 28, has appeared in a film, though she voiced a character in the 2004 animation Shark Tale.
Burlesque - which is reportedly based on Bob Fosse’s iconic musical Cabaret - was written by Pussycat Dolls producer Steven Antin, who will also direct the project. It will be produced by Donald De Line, who previously worked on I Love You, Man. Filming will start in September and the movie is due for release late next year.
Michael Moore Financial Documentary to Premiere This Fall
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Documentary, Political, Upcoming Releases,
We might now know what the economy will be doing four months now, but there is one thing we can count on: Michael Moore commenting on it all.
It still doesn’t have a name, but it does now have a release date. Moore’s new documentary about the global financial crisis will premiere on October 2. Those keeping a close eye on the markets might realize the significance of that date. On October 1, 2008, the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street was approved.
A statement released by Moore gives us an idea of what we should expect. “The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn’t have enough wealth. They wanted more—a lot more. So they systematically set about to fleece the American people out of their hard-earned money. Now, why would they do this? That is what I seek to discover in this movie.”

Anna Faris to star in Chipmunks sequel as voice of a Chipette
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: 20th Century Fox, Animation, Family, Music, Comedy, Casting, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
Anna Faris is set to star in the new Chipmunks movie.
Faris is going provide her voice for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel by playing one of the Chipettes - Brittany, Jeanette or Eleanor. Justin Long, who was the voice of head chipmunk Alvin in 2007’s Alvin and the Chipmunks, revealed: “Anna Faris called me. I hadn’t talked to her in awhile, and I was like ‘Hey, what’s up?’ She said ‘You’re doing the Squeakquel!’ and then something happened and we couldn’t talk anymore. So, I’m pretty sure she’s doing it.”
Justin - who also revealed Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney would return to provide the voices of Alvin’s brothers Simon and Theodore - said Christina Applegate could join Anna as one of the Chipettes. He said: “I heard Christina. And then there’s a third; and I’m not quite sure who that is.” However, he denied rumours it would be his reported girlfriend Drew Barrymore. He told MTV Movies: “No, I don’t think she’s doing it.”
