Willow Smith to Star in Annie Remake
Somebody cue Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons, because we just discovered the Worst. Remake. Ever…and, it hasn’t even been made yet. Take a good look at Will Smith’s pretty daughter Willow. Now, imagine her with red hair.
Actually, the red hair is probably the first thing that’s going to go in the new Annie remake, and that’s only one of the reasons this is the worst idea we’ve ever heard. Willow Smith will take on the iconic role in a new film that’s being produced by -- guess who? -- her daddy’s company Overbrook Entertainment.
Our knee-jerk dislike of the remake idea (the original film, made in 1982, has long been filed in our Untouchable Classics category) probably won’t affect the Smiths, who may soon officially change their surname to Midas. After Jaden Smith raked in more than $300 million in his Karate Kid remake that featured absolutely no actual karate, there’s nothing this family can’t pull off.
Annie is the story of a redheaded orphan whose life is changed when she is adopted by the fantastically rich Daddy Warbucks. Carol Burnett defined the role of the mean orphanage owner who helps concoct a scam to steal Annie back from Warbucks, which eventually fails. The movie, like the Broadway musical that preceded it, is peppered with sensational songs.
And perhaps now, Willow’s “Whip My Hair.” Re-using old scripts is awesome.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Sony, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Remakes, Upcoming Releases,

It's been quite the week for Social Network stars.
Yesterday, we got to see Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, her character in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake. Now, we're getting our first look at Andrew Garfield (in costume) in the Spider-Man reboot.
In an earlier interview, Garfield said he feels "very, very lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next few months." Unfortunately for us, it's going to take more than just a few months -- over a year! -- to see him suited up on screen.
What do you think of this first still? Does it make you excited to watch the Spider-Man series ... again?
The as-yet-untitled film will debut on July 3, 2012.

Barbra Streisand in Talks to Remake Gypsy
Sources say that Barbra Streisand has been approached to join the cast in the upcoming remake of Gypsy. Yes, dreams really do come true.
Streisand would play Rose, a role whose songs were written specifically for Broadway star Ethel Merman. Rosalind Russell, who was not known for her powerful singing voice, starred as Rose in the critically-acclaimed 1962 movie. In the film, Natalie Wood played the title role.
There’s no word on who could potentially play the character in the new version of the film.
Reports say that Barbra is working closely with producers in casting matters. Their choice for Rose’s love interest/talent manage Herbie? Tom Hanks.
Betcha didn’t see that one coming.

A Restart for Firestarter
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Universal, Horror, Remakes, Science Fiction, Thrillers, Trailers, Videos,
About Last Night isn’t the only '80s film that will get a possible remake. Variety reports that Universal and Dino De Laurentiis Co. are looking to fire up a new version of Firestarter.
In the original 1984 film, Drew Barrymore played Charlie, an 8-year-old girl who could make her hair – and major sparks – fly when she was really upset. Her powers were a result of experiments that were done on her parents prior to her birth. The movie -- an adaptation of a Stephen King novel -- also starred David Keith, Martin Sheen and George C. Scott.
Although details of the script are unknown, it will supposedly be loosely-based on the original story.
"We see this as a unique, character-driven thriller with a supernatural edge, based on a timeless concept and enhanced by recent visual effects advances," Martha De Laurentiis stated.
Mark L. Smith (Vacancy) has been tapped to write the screenplay.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Screen Gems is toying with the idea of remaking About Last Night – a film about a couple who try to turn a one-night stand into a relationship.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Horror, Remakes, Science Fiction, Scripts, Upcoming Releases,

A planned reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has a new name attached to the project – and it still isn't Joss Whedon.
Warner Bros., the studio that had optioned the project from Fran and Kaz Kuzui, formally announced Monday that it will be moving forward with the production despite Joss Whedon’s previous declaration that he would not be involved.
"There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character's return to the big screen," producer Charles Roven explained. "Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high-school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be."
