Famke Janssen: Men Are Threatened by Me in Hollywood

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Casting, Celebrity Gossip,

Famke JanssenFamke Janssen says men are "threatened" by her in Hollywood. The 47-year-old actress - who played Bond Girl Xenia Onatopp in 1995 movie GoldenEye - believes some male actors in the industry don't feel comfortable in her presence but she refuses to change the way she is just to please guys.

"My boyfriend [Cole Frates] says men get threatened by me and I notice it sometimes. I've seen women dumb themselves down in order to deal with men in Hollywood. I've never done it. I don't know how to, I'm too Dutch. I think we're way too straightforward as people to do that."

Famke recently reprised her role in Taken 2, which sees her play the ex of Liam Neeson's alter-ego, who is still in love with her, and she enjoyed working with the 60-year-old actor again because he is "so talented and handsome." She explained, "Oh my God, fantastic. He is so talented and handsome and tall. As a tall actress, it's not easy to find people you can actually look up to rather than look down on. In the story, he's married to his work and I think that would be problematic in a relationship.

Jennifer Lawrence is Scared of Horror Films

Jennifer Lawrence in 'House at the End of the Street'Jennifer Lawrence decided to star in a horror movie to overcome her fear of scary films. The Hunger Games actress made a unusual career choice by agreeing to appear in new film House at the End of the Street so she could try and beat her aversion to the genre.

"In real life I'm terrified of horror movie. If I want to watch one, I have to plan out the next three months of my life, because I'll know I'm going to be afraid of everything - afraid of the dark, afraid of my own shadow. I thought if I had the experience of actually being in one it would make me less afraid seeing them. I'll have to see how that one works out."

The 22-year-old star has recently changed her hair to a much darker color for the next installment in the The Hunger Games franchise, but she is still getting used to the change and sometimes she doesn't recognize her own reflection because of the style switch: "The color is hard for me to get used to because I've always been blonde. If I wake up in the middle of the night to pee and catch myself in the mirror, I think, 'Whoa! Who's that?' I scare myself."

Quote of the Day: James Franco on Spring Breakers

Spring Breakers

"I had a sense that it was going to jump around in different ways. But it’s not as if that inhibited me — I felt like I could just go for it. But even when [director Harmony Korine] sent me that first treatment, [he] said I want this to feel like a Britney Spears video meets a Gaspar Noé film, which says a lot."

- James Franco talks about the inspiration behind his latest film, Spring Breakers, helmed by Trash Humpers writer-director Harmony Korine.

Brad Pitt Says Big Hollywood Pay Days Are Over

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrity Gossip, Lists,

Brad PittBrad Pitt says actors can longer expect to earn multi-million dollar salaries.

The 48-year-old actor insists Hollywood just doesn't have the cash to splash on its major stars at the moment due to the global financial crisis and the top actors must simply get used to the economic change. When asked if major stars could expect to earn $10 million per movie, he told the BBC, "Yeah, that thing died. That arithmetic doesn't really work right now ... that deal's not flying these days."

Despite the drop in salaries, Brad insists it is a really "interesting" time in Hollywood at the moment. The Killing Them Softly star insists the monetary challenges can bring the best out of the industry. "It's a really interesting time. A lot of the studios have been challenged because of the economic downturn as well so they've been betting on bigger, more tent pole kinds of things. At the same time that opens up a vacuum for really interesting new filmmakers to come in," he explained.

Sam Mendes Praises Queen Elizabeth’s ‘Amazing’ Stunt

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Action, Comedy, Celebrity Gossip,

Daniel Craig and Queen ElizabethSam Mendes thought that Queen Elizabeth was "amazing" when she starred alongside Daniel Craig at the Olympics opening ceremony.

The 86-year-old monarch made a surprise appearance in a sketch for the London spectacular, which saw her greet the actor in his guise as James Bond before supposedly parachuting from a helicopter. The director - who is at the helm for the latest installment of the Bond franchise, Skyfall - "loved" the idea, but said he was too scared to help Danny Boyle - the man who masterminded the ceremony - with the mammoth task.

"I loved it. Of course I knew that that was being shot. Danny [Boyle] was down on the set a couple of times and I was aware of it all going on. I said, 'I'm staying out of it!' I've got enough to worry about without four billion people watching whatever it is!' But I thought it was amazing. And also a good promo for the movie! It was an act of brinksmanship that went spectacularly right. When I heard about it through Danny and Daniel, I thought, 'Okay, that's a hell of a knife-edge to walk,' with the real queen - who I think Danny directed with great elan."

Diane Keaton Felt Intimidated by De Niro

The Big Wedding posterDiane Keaton used to feel intimidated by Robert De Niro.

The Oscar-winning actress stars alongside the Hollywood legend in new movie The Big Wedding and while they are close now, she admits she was quite wary of him when they first worked together many years ago.

"Mr. Robert De Niro. My god. A legend and also a dear man. He's very kind. It's like, oh, he's so kind. Why is he so kind? And he's quiet. But he's a lovely man. I really like him. He loves his family. You don't think of him that way when you only know him from a distance. I did a movie with him called Marvin's Room a long time ago, but he was a producer. I didn't really know him and he was intimidating to me. But things change."

Diane, 66, also revealed how she likes to walk around Los Angeles as that's when gets to listen to new music: "The kind of music I listen to is when I'm walking, because I walk all over the neighborhoods of Los Angeles. How else am I going to see it? If I don't drive, I take the dog and I listen to something. Right now I love the new Frank Ocean CD, Channel Orange. It's just amazing music. I also like the Jay-Z album with Kanye West. The last one - The Throne album. I just think that's so astonishingly beautiful, the way they orchestrate it. That's how I got to know who Frank Ocean was. Frank Ocean sang on one of the cuts. He [is] very orchestral in a weird way."

Shia LaBeouf Continues to Slam Big Studio System

Shia LaBeoufTransformers star Shia LaBeouf has denounced the Hollywood studio system.

Explaining his efforts to steer his career towards more independent films, LaBeouf - who is set to star in the upcoming Lars Von Trier film Nymphomaniac - has slammed what he believes is an inability to be creative in the big-budgeted film environment.

"There's no room for being a visionary in the studio system. It literally cannot exist. You give Terrence Malick a movie like Transformers, and he's f****d. There's no way for him to exist in that world," he said.

LaBeouf did admit, however, to regretting his negative comments on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (which prompted his co-star Harrison ford to call him an idiot): "He [Steven Spielberg] told me there's a time to be a human being and have an opinion, and there's a time to sell cars. It brought me freedom, but it also killed my spirits because this was a dude I looked up to like a sensei."

The 30-year-old actress loved working with the reformed hellraiser on new sci-fi movie Total Recall, Jessica - who is engaged to Justin Timberlake - believes people are drawn to Colin simply because he is excited about life, rather than because of his partying and womanizing reputation.

Quote of the Day: David Cronenberg on Superhero Films

David Cronenberg

"And certainly, I've made the horror films and people say, "Can you make a horror film also an art film?" And I would say, 'Yeah, I think you can.' But a superhero movie, by definition, you know, it's comic book. It's for kids. It's adolescent in its core. That has always been its appeal, and I think people who are saying, you know, 'Dark Knight Rises is, you know, supreme cinema art,' I don't think they know what the f**k they're talking about."

- Cosmopolis director David Cronenberg comments on The Dark Knight and the superhero film genre.
