Demi Moore’s Directorial Debut Stays Behind Closed Doors

Glamour's keeping quiet about Demi's directorial debutIt appears as if Demi Moore‘s latest project has gravitated her behind the camera, placing her alongside starlets-turned-directors like Natalie Portman, Courtney Cox, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Although the folks over at Glamour magazine are guarding the short film like hawks, Brittany Snow has leaked a few notes about her director:

“She’s so grounded and normal and a really, really talented director. When it comes to this crazy town and industry, she has a very good handle on who she is…She wore jeans and a T-shirt every day and no makeup. She was just so cool.”

The film, which is part of Glamour‘s Reel Moments Series, is slated to premiere this October. Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, and Rita Wilson are among the many actresses who have participated in the past.

Valkyrie Gets a New Release Date

Tom Cruise, ValkyrieAfter weeks and weeks of delayed production, the upcoming Tom Cruise film has a new release date. Now, the flick is scheduled to hit theaters February 13, 2009. Considering the subject matter, I’m sure it’s the perfect film for any romantic date…if you’re both into WWII.

Called “The Big One,” WWII is perhaps one of the most popular filmmaking subjects in all the world. This era is constantly re-visited in movies and many major Hollywood directors and actors have taken it on. The latest to do so is Tom Cruise, who has been somewhat absent from the movie scene lately.

So far, much of the buzz on the flick is negative. Many claim the film is terrible, which has prompted Cruise co-star Bill Nighy to step forward in the interests of damage control. Nighy, who will play General Friedrich Olbricht, says the movie has suffered from several production issues - but that’s the only thing wrong with the film. “We just shot some extra scenes,” Nighy told the press recently. “People are very excited about it.”

This month he gives us a peek at the infamous prison escape scene, revealing how stunt actors are lit on fire! I was a bit disappointed that we don’t clearly see Rorschach, though. In case you missed it on here, you can check out the photos of the Watchmen characters as well as the action figure prototypes. Enjoy.

Sex and the City: Boom in Frame?

Sex and the City movie

I sincerely hoped this issue was only present at my screening and could be blamed on a lazy projectionist not wanting to work the graveyard shift for two theaters jam-packed with estrogen - but according to my Google search, I’m afraid not.

At the midnight showing of the new movie at the Waterford Lakes Plaza in Orlando, FL, viewers were awed by not just the return of the Fab Four, but by several occasions of boom microphones slipping into frame during the film.  At one point, even walks right up to what is clearly the top end of a Kino light or a flag on a C-stand.

Independent Filmmakers Recoup Losses with YouTube

In the ever-changing world of independent film, directors are constantly looking for new ways to market their movies.  While the Internet has long been one of these tools, two filmmakers are taking things to the next level.  Not only are Arin Crumley and Susan Buice putting their entire full-length film, Four Eyed Monsters, on YouTube for all to see, they’ve also found a way to make some money and get out of debt.  For one week, Spout, a place where people can go to talk about movies, will give the pair one dollar for every person who subscribes to their site.  We here at FilmCrunch love the site and believe anyone who likes movies should be a member, but now you also have a chance to monetarily support independent film from the comfort of your couch – I’d call that a win-win.  The donations are already up to $17,500.00, but the goal is substantially higher; check out the video for more info.
