How Bad is Xbox 360 Doing in Japan? Real Bad.
It’s no secret that the Japanese haven’t taken to the Xbox 360 yet. Whether it be because of it’s massive footprint taking up too much space in Japanese apartments, or because it has relatively few Japanese-style (read: not trying to be incredibly realistic) games, Japan just doesn’t seem to get the 360. Still, it’s always good to be able to come up with numerical comparisons for things - so, in strictly scientific, mathematical terms how is the Xbox 360 doing?
Not even as well as the Gamecube it turns out (That translates to: REAL bad). For the year, the Xbox 360 has sold about 75,000 units, whereas the 5-years-old, current-gen-loser Gamecube has sold about 77,000 for the same period. It should be an interesting race in Japan when the Wii and PS3 release—Japanese interest in those two consoles appears to be roughly equal, and from these numbers we can probably safely guess that the 360 won’t have much of an effect on Nintendo or Sony’s sales.
