Dov Charney Denies No Uglies Policy, Will Answer Your Questions

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Health & Beauty, News, Rumors,

CEO Dov CharneyIn light of a former (anonymous) American Apparel employee’s allegations that the hiring policy is heavily weighed by the attractiveness of the applicant, the international company has issued a statement denying such claims.

“American Apparel does not hire or retain applicants based on ‘beauty.’ Our main priority is finding people with a strong sense of style who can inspire customers as they make selections from our extensive line… It has never been the policy of American Apparel, as some blogs claim, to fire employees who are not “good looking” or any of the other accusations implied by the anonymous or unverified third party sources. The company legitimately reviews current photographs of job applicants and employees to consider their sense of style and the way in which they present themselves… This is a standard practice among fashion-forward retailers.

While they may call it “style,” I’m inclined to believe that it’s just another word for “beauty.” I mean, have you seen the hipsterbots at the store?

Moreover, the press statement addresses the topic of hiring process, but has made no mention of its irksomely precise grooming etiquette... If you’d like to talk to CEO Dov Charney about any of this, he’s made his phone number available to the public:

Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone Break-up Rumors Resurface

Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo MartoneSay it isn’t so! Just as initial whispers of a break-up between Marc Jacobs and former model Lorenzo Martone ceased, the big-time fashion designer sparked the rumor mill once again when he didn’t mention his fiance in his acceptance speech at the CFDA awards.

The couple were seen together last week at the amfAR gala looking like their usual, adorable selves (holding hands and everything!); however, insiders say that Lorenzo was caught smooching another lady’s man at Sean Patterson’s birthday party that night!

Was the cheating kiss the reasoning behind Martone’s absence from the awards and Marc’s speech? Marc couldn’t be reached to comment and Lorenzo declined to comment when presented with the news.

The couple have been engaged since March 2009, after having dated previously for a year.

Naomi Campbell Admits to Joining AA, Quits Partying

Naomi CampbellSupermodel used to think she “wouldn’t survive” the modeling world.

The 40-year-old British beauty admits she pushed herself too hard because she thought she would go “crazy” if she had to sit down and evaluate what she wanted out of life.

“To be honest, there were times I thought I wouldn’t survive. The time between 1998 and 2005 was especially bad. During that time I avoided looking in the mirror, because I didn’t like the person who was looking back at me. So I had to find out what I wanted and what I didn’t want. The thing is, as a model you’re used to being on the go, so just the thought of sitting down and thinking about something drives you crazy. I used to have a lot of problems. Amongst others I drank too much so I joined the Alcoholics Anonymous to get and stay sober.”

The supermodel - who is dating Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin - insists she now has no interest in going out parting because her priorities have changed as she has grown older: “I’ve grown up. I’ve stopped driving myself to exhaustion. I want to lead a calm life. I’m done with partying. When you get older things that seemed important to you when you were 20 suddenly lose significance.”

Kate Moss Hires Banksy

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Models, Rumors,

Kate Moss by Banksy has commissioned Banksy to paint a mural in her mansion.

The supermodel - who recently splashed out on a top-of-the-range sauna and steam room for her $10.7 million north London home - is paying the British guerrilla artist $230,000 to create a custom-made “eclectic” painting of her on a wall inside her home.

“Kate is a big fan of Banksy and has several prints of his, plus a few originals, at her home. He has even done a portrait of Moss herself (picture to right). She explained exactly what she wanted and Banksy gave her a quote. It wasn’t cheap. Kate asked for an entire wall to be painted, showing Kate on the catwalk at all stages of her career - from a fresh-faced 16 year old to her last appearance earlier this year. It is pretty eclectic. Banksy has even been given a set of keys so he can let himself in,” a source said.

The 36-year-old catwalk beauty - who has asked for the painting to also feature a number of well known faces including her friends Sadie Frost, Naomi Campbell and - expects the artwork to increase the value of her home. The source added to the Daily Mirror, “Kate hopes the Banksy artwork, in addition to the work in her loft, will at least add $306,000 to the value of her house. She has thought all this through and hopes to make a considerable profit when she eventually sells up.”

Beyonce Wants Posh Designs

The sexy singer is a huge admirer of the former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer’s collections and is keen for her to create some stunning outfits for her next series of concerts.

is a big fan of Victoria’s work, and was given a couple of samples from the new collection. Victoria was hugely flattered and has agreed, in principle, to suggest some designs. While Beyonce already has the sunglasses and a few dresses, it is Victoria’s more elegant full-length designs that she particularly loves as they are a real departure from her usual glitzy stage costumes. This collaboration could be the start of something big.”

Victoria’s designs have become a huge hit with celebrities with Demi Moore, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz and all donning some of her creations. Demi wore a strapless, floor-length royal blue dress from Victoria’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection at the pre-Oscars Hollywood Domino party and couldn’t help but gush about Victoria’s handiwork: “I always feel so comfortable and Victoria’s designs fit so well. They’re just stylish through and through.”

Rumors Swirl Around Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Break Up

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Rumors,

Lorenzo Martone and Marc Jacobs has reportedly split from Lorenzo Martone.

The designer married the Brazilian PR executive on New Year’s Eve on the island of St. Barts in the West Indies, but the couple have decided to separate less than four months later. One friend told the New York Post, “They’ve both been telling people that they broke up.”

Although Lorenzo has denied claims he has moved out of the Manhattan apartment they share, he didn’t accompany his beau to the wedding of Marc’s business partner Robert Duffy last week. A spokesperson for Marc said, “We don’t comment on Marc’s personal life.”

Although the couple wed in St Barts, they had yet to sign any official wedding documents, meaning the marriage wasn’t legal. Lorenzo said, “In the end, we just had an intimate ceremony at a friend’s house with people who were already on the island. Although the official wedding papers won’t be signed till later this year, so legally we’re not married yet.”

Representatives for Marc and Lorenzo had previously denied the couple married, even though there was a wedding cake at their New Year “party.” In January a representative said, “Someone had a party for them, but there was no wedding. They are still engaged.”

Tom Ford Moves Forward With Womenswear Plans

Tom Ford Upon completing his foray into film, is now venturing into womenswear.

The designer has reportedly started recruiting accessories specialists and is putting together a design team for a return to the ladies clothing market, his first foray into the area under his own name. Tom confirmed his intentions to move back toward womenswear last year, saying in October, “Financing is extremely expensive right now, so if we find financing in the right situation we’ll be able to start a women’s collection soon. If we don’t, we may have to wait a while.”

He warned, however, the project would take over a year to complete, adding, “It will take me 18 months when I start, because I have to hire the team, find the factories, put everything together and then get the stores ready so there’s a place for these clothes.”

Meanwhile, Tom - who has previously worked for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent - dressed hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin for last night’s ceremony, which included a costume changed for Alec from a single-breasted tuxedo with grosgrain peak lapels, white pique front shirts and black grosgrain cummerbunds and bow ties to a navy blue, single-breasted tuxedo with a grosgrain peak lapel.

Colin Firth - who starred in Tom’s directorial debut film for which he was nominated for the Best Actor award - was also dressed by the designer at the Oscars.
