Rookie Radar: 11.22.06

Adam MorrisonWell, a lot to talk about this week, with lots going on in the rookie scene.  Brandon Roy is out longer than expected, and a few Jazz rookies are beginning to make an impact.  Overall, it was a great week in general for most rookies, and these rankings are going to be a little Jazzed up (pun intended).
1. Adam Morrison (Up)

Even if Brandon Roy wasn’t out, I’d still probably give Morrison the top spot.  Although he had a bad game Monday (just 7 points), he’s been a beast in the past week, playing over 37 minutes in each of his last four games.  He dropped 21 points and seven boards against the Hornets on the 14th, and followed that up with a huge 27 point game against the Spurs the next day, playing 48 minutes in the overtime win.  Morrison is playing huge minutes, and with huge minutes come huge scoring, which he has shown.

The Garbage Man (I like that.  Maybe it will stick.) has been picking it up (is it weird that I laugh at my own jokes?) and throwing it down (OK, this has got to stop) lately.  He has scored double digit points in each of the last 4 games, highlighted by a 17 point, 10 rebound game on November 18th at Denver.  He has started his last three games, and in those three games has gotten no less than 35 minutes.  If he continues to produce, he’s another guy that could be really good.
3. LaMarcus Aldridge (Up, up baby)

Finally playing after missing the first 6 games recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Aldridge has been a great addition to the Blazers frontcourt, and could be a great addition to your fantasy team.  He is averaging 10.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, and has started the last three games.  He hasn’t played less than 19 minutes all year, and Blazers coach Nate McMillen must see something in him, because he’s starting over former all-star Jamaal Magloire.  Continue tracking his stats, and he could be a great free agent pickup for your team.
4. Paul Millsap (Up)

Paul Millsap could turn out to be the Marques Colston of fantasy basketball (for those unfamiliar, Marques Colston was a 7th round pick out of Hofstra this year, and is one of the top WR in football this year).  In not a ton of minutes, Millsap has been huge in his last three games, posting 11, 18, and 20 points and 6, 10, and 7 rebounds, respectively.  There’s no limit to what this rookie can do, and I’m drinking the kool-aid.  I’ve picked him up in my leagues, and I suggest you do the same.
5. Rudy Gay (Down)

Gay just can’t contribute consistently.  He’s up and down, can’t stay straight (hehe).  After spraining his ankle and not performing too well, he bounced back with a huge 23 point, 7 rebound game November 18th, then followed with a 4 point effort on the 20th.  It’s impossible to predict what he’s going to do, but we all know that he’s capable of putting up huge numbers, as evidenced the other day.  He should be picked up in most every league.
Honorable Mentions:

Craig Smith - Just misses the cut this week, hard to leave him off the list.  He has been pretty consistent, and I see no reason why he shouldn’t continue his recent sucesses.
Marcus Williams - Just waiting for Jason Kidd to get injured…
Shelden Williams - Hasn’t been scoring too much, but his 15 rebound game on the 14th was sick.  Not good enough to be on a roster in a standard league, but worth a spot on the Watch List.
