Dropping Dimes on the Daily - 12.12.07

Description

Dropping Dimes On The Daily is all about the team looking at the previous night’s performances and mentioning those that did pretty goodly and those that did pretty badly.  Goodly is a word, right?  Anyway, this will be a quick look around the league, so don’t expect a ton of text, just some daily fantasy basketball goodness!!!

The Fig Cap: Bonner Blockin’

The Highs?

Last night seemed to be all about the random contribution.  OK, I admit, we had some studs put up some very studly numbers.  Jason Kidd recorded yet another triple-double, Antawn Jamsion put up 22 points and 13 rebounds, and the duo of Rip Hamilton and Chauncey Billups combined for 55 points and 17 assists.

But Craig Smith?  36 points, eight rebound and a block later!  Joel Przybilla made the most out of the LaMarcus Aldridge absence by putting up six points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.  The worst contract in the NBA (Larry Hughes) exploded for 36 points on 13-17 shooting.  As an aside, that 13-of-17 took his field goal percentage up to 39.1 percent on the season.  If that doesn’t put things in perspective, I don’t know what does.  Martell Webster also benefitted from the non-Aldridge game by dropping five treys en route to 25 points.  A nice rebound from his recent play.

And you may want to sit down for this one, but San Antonio’s Matt Bonner had what was likely the best line of the night.  The red-headed big man put up 25 points, 17 rebounds, three treys and a blocked shot in a huge game against the Golden State Warriors.  Yes, Matt Bonner.

The Lows?

TJ Ford’s neck injury doesn’t look good.  Yes, the guard had 26 points and eight dimes before leaving, but this isn’t the first time that the former Longhorn was carried off on a stretcher.  Good news is that Al Horford was at the hospital with Ford, so it was definitely not intentional (despite the ejection), but we may not see Ford play again this season, or ever.  Keep an eye on this news - and make sure that Jose Calderon is owned in your leagues.

A few other lows:
- Ford’s teammate Carlos Delfino disappointed a bit with a 1-6 night and three points
- Josh Smith followed up his huge night with a 2-11 night and five points
- Rasheed Wallace came off of the bench for eight points and four personal fouls
- Mike Miller has been dreadful, rolling out for five points in 39 minutes of play last night, and…
- Ronnie Brewer (ironically also pictured above) put up six points in only 22 minutes of play

The Brewer issue is something to look at in the next week or so as Jerry Sloan may be having a change of heart on the second year guard.

Have a good day, all.

(Update: Regarding TJ Ford, the AJC reports that he’s been released from the hospital and is medically cleared to play.  Pretty amazing given the way he left last night’s game.  Regardless, I wouldn’t expect him to play tonight, but he should at least be back in uniform by the weekend)
