Comic Book Jobs: Interns & Designers

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Conventions, Editorials,

Telara ChroniclesLots of comic book-related jobs out there this week in a variety of different fields, so get your resume in shape and be prepared to hit "send."

Game company Trion Worlds in San Diego is looking for a Content Designer to “participate in the planning and execution of cutting-edge, memorable missions and enemy encounters including writing dialog, spawning, and scripting.” You must have a “love of pen and paper RPGs, board games, Syfy channel, and comic books.”

Sony is looking for a full-time Administrative Assistant in their Culver City office to handle Field Publicity. There are lots of the usual corporate stuff to handle but here’s part of the job description that stuck out: “Generate Comic Con grid schedule.”

There are some other fun parts of the job too like “facilitating all filmmaker/talent interview requests” and “book/negotiate hair, make-up and styling for all Long Lead Added Value Press Days.”

But I like the whole “grid” thing best.

Weekend Reading: Glenn Dakin, Amazon, Rowland Wilson, The Beat and Overstreet

WatchmenWhat a crazy week with all this talk of prequels, re-shoots on Jonah Hex, and DC’s big impending announcements of film projects and possibly a new Publisher. Marvel will have to sell itself again just to keep up! Let’s see what’s out and about.

Amazon Vs. Books: If you’ve been following the slap-fight between Amazon and Macmillan, you already know that they’re fighting over ebook pricing and Amazon pulled Macmillan’s books from their site. Amazon lost the PR battle and has agreed to put the links back. John Scalzi has what I think is the correct take on the matter. His books are published by Tor, which is a division of Macmillan, and the fight cost him, and many other authors, their sales. Read what John says.

The Beat: Heidi MacDonald is an old pal from the pre-blog era and runs one of the must-click sites on the web, The Beat. She’s recently moved to a new location and if you haven’t updated yet, do so now. And try to get in on all the Watchmen sequel and prequel stuff!

Like DarkRoom or WriteRoom, which provide full-screen text-editors for writers, Rhonda offers something similar for 3D artists, with a minimalist environment and user-friendly interface. If you’re familiar with AutoDesk’s Sketchbook Pro take on no-frills 2-D illustration, you may want to check out Rhonda for working in 3D. Before you get too excited about creating the next Shrek in Rhonda, know that it just opened Beta testing and they are still working out the bugs and issues, etc.
