Anna Wintour told Oprah to drop 20 pounds before Vogue cover
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Television, Style,
Anna Wintour, the legendary editor of US style bible magazine Vogue is making it know that she made a “gentle suggestion” to Oprah Winfrey prior to her front page photoshoot in 1998. According to Anna, it was just a gentle nudge: “I went to Chicago to visit Oprah, and I suggested that it might be an idea that she lose a little bit of weight. “I said simply that you might feel more comfortable. She was a trooper! She totally welcomed the idea, and she went on a very stringent diet. And it was one of our most successful covers ever.”
Oprah, 55, was featured on on the cover of Vogue, which carried the tagline ‘Oprah! A Major Movie, An Amazing Makeover’ in reference to her new film Beloved and weight loss. Anna has also called for better education to help halt rising cases of obesity in America. The 59-year-old fashionista - who recently commissioned a detailed feature on the issue - told 60 Minutes: “I’d just been on a trip to Minnesota, where I can only kindly describe most of the people I saw as little houses. There’s such an epidemic of obesity in the United States, and for some reason, everybody focuses on anorexia. We need to spend money time and education on teaching people to eat, exercise and take care of themselves in a healthier way. It provoked, which is really the point.”
People are “little houses” - did you get that?

Proenza Schouler Designer Needs Surgery
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Television, Drunk, Meltdowns, Parties,
Fashionistas everywhere (myself included) have been weeping for their beloved designer, Jack McCollough, who received several injuries from 24 star Kiefer Sutherland at a Met gala after-party last week.
McCollough’s rep recently reported that his injuries were so bad that he needed surgery: “Mr. McCollough suffered a broken nose in three places as a result of the assault… He received medical treatment last night after consulting with physicians.”
Last Thursday, Sutherland was charged with third-degree assault, which can end in anywhere from a $1,000 fine to a year in jail.

Blake Lively: Fashionably Misguided Gossip Girl

Goods news, Taylor Momsen. You’re not the only Gossip Girl to experience a fashion misstep.
While I really don’t have a problem with Blake Lively’s dress, the ensemble gets worse as you go down. Sadly, this Little House on the Prairie fan thinks the boots add a Walnut Grove - or Jessica Simpson - quality to the look.

Did Julia Louis-Dreyfus Copy Katie Holmes’ Look?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Television, Clothing, Red Carpet,
On the left, we have Katie Holmes in a garment she and her stylist designed for the August premiere of Tropic Thunder. On the right, we have Julia Louis-Dreyfus sporting a Narciso Rodriguez creation for the 2008 Emmys.
Now, is it just me - or do the two dresses (aside from a few minor differences) look incredibly similar?

Taylor Momsen: Fashionably Misguided Gossip Girl
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Clothing, Fashion Police, Style,
In most cases, working in a fashion-driven environment usually has its benefits. Unfortunately, Taylor Momsen has not yet reaped any of those. These two pictures clearly show that the Gossip Girl hasn’t walked away with anything from her CW show - whether it be clothes from the drama’s wardrobe department or knowledge from the costume designers.
Ironically, both of these outfits were worn during New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. (The black deal on the left was worn at the Fashion Rocks event last Friday; the potato sack on the right was worn earlier this week at one of the runway shows.)
Sorry, Jenny Humphrey. If you really want to be accepted in Blair Waldorf’s inner circle, looking like Tara Reid isn’t the way to go.
Celebrity Fashion Trend: The Green Dress

Now that summer is coming to an end, it’s now time to bring out the shades reminiscent of fall.
These green dresses - like the orange ones we profiled earlier - are not outfits than can be easily worn by everyone. How do you think these three ladies (Dita Von Teese, Kirsten Dunst, Carla Cugino) did?
VMA Fashion: Who Hit a Sour Note?

Award season is long, fraught with gossip, and seemingly unending. Someone always walks away with a statue - some performers and artists walk away with several. But by the time the same awards are given out the next year, no one really cares who won what the year before.
What we do remember is what they were wearing when they were doing it. People may not remember which Grammy Jennifer Lopez won the year she wore the green Versace gown, but they remember the gown. This year’s VMAs may be remembered for several years - the pictures not of moon men statues, but of the clothes everyone wore.
Whose couture sang the sweetest…and whose fashion was completely discordant?
