Wiliam Shatner Lashes Out at George Takei

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Television, Rivalries,

UPDATE: Takei told Entertainment Tonight that an invitation was sent to Shatner after all. William just didn’t bother to RSVP.

It should make J.J. Abrams feel better to know that he isn’t the only one hated by William Shatner.

Since he hasn’t been assigned to any film shoots, the Boston Legal star has apparently found himself with a lot of spare time. Last month, Shatner - with the help of his daughter - hit YouTube to talk about being snubbed by the Star Trek director. Now he’s hitting the internet to talk about being snubbed by a former co-star.

When actor George Takei (Sulu) married his partner Brad Altman back in September, several members of the Star Trek family were included in the event. Unfortunately, Shatner was not one of them. In an interview with AP Radio, George said his memories of the show’s lead star weren’t always pleasant.

Novo Minoru 3D Webcam

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Misc. Tech, PC / Laptop,

Minoru 3D WebcamWith the Minoru (which means “reality”) Webcam from Novo and a pair of glasses, you can see in 3D via Skype, Microsoft Live Messenger and other IMs. It apparently also makes 3D images and videos that can then be uploaded to social sites such as YouTube, although those wanting to see it will need glasses, too. Arriving in December at a price of $100.00, we figure that this is a bit overpriced and overcomplicated.

Eminem back with Relapse

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Rumors, Videos, Hip-Hop & Rap,

It’s been years since we heard from rap superstar Eminem, but just as quickly as he disappeared from the scene four years ago, talk of his return is taking over at the water cooler of hip hop. His last original album was Encore (iTunes), back in 2004. A year later he released a greatest hits album, Curtain Call, with no new material on it. Then in 2006 he led a project called The Re-Up, but again, his lyrical contributions were sparse. Just when we were about to write off Slim Shady, we got word that he was going to be dropping an album by the end of the year. We figured that was near impossible, so we didn’t report on it. Then, out of nowhere, everywhere we turned we were reading quotes from Eminem himself, saying he has been back in the studio, and is aiming at getting his album, Relapse, out the door before the end of 2008. That means sometime in the next 9 weeks or so.

A taster track, “I’m Having a Relapse”, has already been leaked to the Internet, and is featured in the video above. Do be aware that there is some offensive language in the track. Rumor has it that Dr. Dre is producing most of the album (which likely explains the delay in his album, Detox,) and if that is the case, then we can likely expect a return to the roots of The Slim Shady LP (iTunes) and The Marshall Mathers LP (iTunes), both runaway hits. 50 Cent is also reportedly working with Eminem on the album as well. Hopefully, we’ll find out if Em is truly back again before Christmas.

Barack Advertises in Burnout Paradise

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Video Games,

Burnout Paradise ScreenshotWe already have seen evidence of advertising in video games. Still reaching out to techie voters, the Obama campaign now has a billboard in the Xbox 360 game Burnout Paradise. Any advertiser can buy space, including those with presidential ambition. On the other side of the fence, the McPalin group has sent a letter to YouTube complaining that the site doesn’t consider fair use in videos before taking some of them down. You can read the entire document at Techdirt.

Hottrix Sues Coors Over iBeer Application

Score one for the little guy. Hottrix has filed a $12.5 million lawsuit against Coors. The indie company says that the brewery copied its iPhone application iBeer. Both apps display a glass of beer that empties when the user tilts the handset about 90º. While iBeer cost $3.00 at launch, Coors’ iPint was free. Hottrix argues that it had a video on YouTube in July 2007, before the App Store was launched. In an act of kindness, Apple removed the freebie in the U.S., however it is still available in other countries.

Tally Hall - YouTube Smash

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Editorial, Internet, Music, Videos,

What do we love about the Internet? That the incredibly gifted group Tally Hall can become such a hit on YouTube with their Internet Show that they made it all the way to the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. You go, guys!

What do we not love about the Internet? That commercial companies such as Procter & Gamble come up with a lame website and competition to get normally intelligent people to devise the next greatest catch phrase for Crest Whitening Expressions after Emeril Lagasse’s “Bam!”

Woman in Legal Battle with UMP Over YouTube Clip

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Music,

Stephanie Lenz uploaded a 30 second clip of her toddler son dancing to Prince’s song “Let’s Go Crazy” to share with family and friends back in February 2007. Universal Music Publishing insisted the music was “not authorized by the copyright owner” and asked that it be removed. To make a long story short, Stephanie is now involved in a lengthy legal battle, backed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The clip has received almost 700,000 hits because of the publicity.

We know how she feels. We were recently notified that a video we shot of the Village People was taken down from YouTube after it was considered to be a copyright infringement. Considering they only have one surviving member singing in the group, you think they would have appreciated the extra publicity.

What’s Wrong With Young Hollywood?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Movies, Music, Child Stars, Editorials,

Miley Cyrus is showing off too much skin in pictures and making viral YouTube videos. Disney darling Vanessa Hudgens weathered scandal for sending pics to another young star. Lindsay Lohan fell so far from grace so fast we still can’t find her career, and let’s not even start talking about the deterioration of Britney Spears.

What’s wrong with young Hollywood?

Many of them appear on the scene as cute kids, all smiles and freckles and age-appropriate movie roles. But as the years pass and adolescence sets in, they’re suddenly seen in clubs, car crashes and mug shots - even before they can legally vote in some cases. When kids who aren’t famous get into trouble, it’s easy to say it’s the fault of the parents or that society puts too much pressure on them - maybe it’s some flaw in the educational system. When kids who are in the spotlight get into trouble, it’s media fodder.

And it’s almost guaranteed to make the spotlight shine on them just a little bit brighter.
