American Idol 10: Top 12 Results

The Top 12 results show of American Idol began with a montage of all the Idols sharing their first childhood dream jobs -- only two of which were “singer” (Thia Megia and Pia Toscano). Results shows always begin on a dramatic note. It’s the only way the show can convince people to watch an hour-long broadcast of what could just as easily take two minutes to learn right before the next performance round.

Jennifer Lopez wore white, Steven Tyler black. And no one’s looking at (or listening to) Randy Jackson anymore. But the results show is Ryan Seacrest’s rare time to shine; it’s always his to lead. To open the show, he showed off baby pictures of the night’s performers, Lee DeWyze and the Black Eyed Peas, since the Top 12 all had their pictures shown off during the preceding performance round.

American Idol 10: Top 12 Perform

American Idol logo

Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson opened the Top 12 performance episode of American Idol with an altruistic message. In light of the recent tragedy in Japan, the show will give all profits from Wednesday’s songs (which, as always, may be downloaded from iTunes) to the Red Cross relief effort. On the Thursday results show, information will be offered so you may find new ways to offer assistance. Visit the Red Cross home page to learn more about making donations of money and time in order to further the relief effort.

After starting on a somber note, the show quickly launched into its normal routine. Twelve contenders remain in the contest, the judges’ save is still active and the theme for the night was one of Idol’s old standbys: songs from the year in which you were born. Idol really needs to hire somebody with some new ideas. And so far, the promise that the season would bring viewers original songs hasn’t really come to fruition.

Behind the Glee: Chris Colfer Talks Original Songs

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Music, Prime Time, FOX, Gossip, Video,

In this fantastic video clip, Glee’s Chris Colfer talks about his long-awaited on-screen kiss with Darren Criss and singing original songs. Because his character, Kurt, is no longer a part of New Directions, Colfer did not get to sing an original song in the “Original Song” episode (bummer). But, he did compose a catchy little tune on the spot (“I miss Mercedes… and all my single ladies”).

He also spent some time joking around with castmate Darren Criss about their passionate kiss, complaining that Criss never called him afterward. “I don’t kiss and tell, unless it’s on camera,” he explained. Watch the entire video to get a look at what Glee is like behind-the-scenes.

Glee: Original Songs and Bittersweet Regionals

Glee had a lot of stuff (and songs) to squeeze into the “Original Song” episode, and as such viewers were treated to the first-ever cold opening in show history. Rather than wasting time on the usual recap, the show threw Gleeks right into a Warblers number (Maroon 5’s “Misery”).

Sweet.

First Nintendo 3DS commercial revealed

Nintendo just unveiled its first commercial for the Nintendo 3DS, set to debut in the U.S. on March 27.

The 30-second spot (above) shows various gamers using the device, the 3D functionality drawing them into the game. "3D games, photos, entertainment, and more. No glasses required. Nintendo 3DS. Take a look inside," a voice says at the end of the commercial.

In New York, Nintendo will host an event on the eve of the 3DS launch, from 9pm on Saturday until 2am on March 27. Nintendo President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime will be at the Union Square Best Buy around 9:45pm to greet fans before being lifted onto a hydraulic stage at 11pm to address the crowd and begin a countdown clock to midnight. Fifteen minutes before Best Buy opens its doors, Nintendo said people will throw old-school 3D glasses into the air to "unshackle themselves" from the need for 3D glasses; the Nintendo 3DS displays 3D images without glasses.

Best Buy will then be open until 2am for those who want to get their hands on the 3DS. The first 300 people in line will receive Nintendo 3DS carrying cases, among other giveaways, Nintendo said.

VIDEO: SNL Honors March Madness

SNL opened with one of their funniest sketches of the year on Saturday. In a single skit, the show managed to pay homage to March Madness, Charlie Sheen and world current events. Our favorite part is Bill Hader -- watch the video above to see what we mean.

In related news, fans will have the opportunity to watch the real March Madness in a whole new way for this years NCAA men’s basketball tournament, which begins on Tuesday. CBS has purchased the broadcasting rights once again, but this year the network will actually show every single game. This year, games will be presented on CBS, TNT, TBS and truTV.

Apple iPad 2 review: Second Thoughts

Ever since I picked up an Apple iPad 2, I've spent more time with it than my original iPad. At 1.3 pounds, the 33 percent thinner iPad 2 is unquestionably more comfortable to hold and offers the promise of greater speed and utility. In some cases, doing what was once impossible with an iPad 1 is obvious. I could never, for instance, shoot or edit video with my old device. The remaining iPad 2 differences, however, are harder to spot; so I spent some time this weekend in search of them.

The iPad 2 has always had an accelerometer, which basically tells the device if it's in motion. It's great for, say, driving games, so you can steer with the whole device. I use this when playing Real Racing HD. Now the iPad 2 has a three-axis gyroscope, which not only recognizes motion, but the speed and angle of it. That's the good news. The bad news is that it's still hard to find any apps (from Apple or anyone else) that use it.

Apple reports at least two games that take advantage of the new gyroscope: "Dead Space" from EA and "N.O.V.A 2 Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance HD." According to the "Dead Space" page in the App Store, version 1.0.2, which was released on the same day the iPad 2 arrived in stores, now has "more intuitive controls of your movement". This is made possible through "Y-Axis Inversion". No mention of gyroscope axis, but I'm guessing that's probably what EA is talking about. I downloaded the game to try it out.

VIDEO: Zach Galifianakis Shaves His Head

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Television, Hair Styles, Videos,

I pity the fool who missed the end of last week's Saturday Night Live. Those who were watching NBC saw Zach Galifianakis standing on the famous stage with a Mr. T-inspired Mohawk. As he explained, the skit never made it to air -- the show ran out of time. But, at least he got an awesome new ‘do out of the sketch the didn’t.
