Swine Flu Cartoon

Is there no end of the ways to remind us that the Swine Flu (H1N1) exists? Apparently not, as this one will give you free updates with SMS messages on your cell phone. Text “PIGFLU” to 41411 and you will receive news that included CDC/WHO updates, new outbreak alerts, travel warnings and health authority information. Messages are sent one to 3 times daily and you may have to pay for text charges, depending on your phone plan.

OmniFocus for iPhone gets updated to 1.1.2

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Productivity, App Updates, Above $10,

OmniFocus for iPhone

One of my absolute favorite apps, OmniFocus, just received a small update, meant to kill a few bugs. In case you have yet to give it a try, OmniFocus is an organizational tool solely meant to keep you on task, focused, while maintaining peace of mind that you aren’t forgetting anything. It’s configurable in so many ways, that just about anyone is able to fit it into their workflow. There is an iPhone version, as well as a desktop version for OS X, and the two can sync together. Anyhow, here are the details of the recent update for OmniFocus for iPhone:

Changes in the minor v1.1.1 update:
Fixed a bug which could leave the user at a blank screen after adding a new item.
Fixed a bug which caused the app to be unresponsive after converting an action to a project.
Fixed a few places where English was still visible in the Japanese translation.

Changes in the minor v1.1.2 update (released November 13, 2008):
Updated the Settings icon to avoid potential confusion with the iPhone’s built-in Settings application.

As we said before, if you haven’t already, you owe it to yourself to check out OmniFocus.

VMware Fusion 2

Running Windows in OS X is still cool, even if software like , VMware Fusion, and have been around for a while. Now though, Fusion has hit 2.0, which is a nice milestone. Performance improvements, better multi-monitor support, and more robust Unity features (that’s the feature that lets you “erase” the Windows desktop, so that your Windows programs appear right next to your OS X ones) make this a worthy upgrade. Here are the details:

  • More Seamless with Unity 2.0: Application Sharing, Link Handling, Mirrored Folders, Driverless Printing, True Multiple Display Support, and Custom Keyboard Mapping
  • Safer Windows on Mac experience with AutoProtect automated snapshots and a 12-month complimentary subscription to McAfee VirusScan Plus security software for Windows XP and Vista
  • More Power with DirectX 9.0c with Shader Model 2 3D graphics, 1080p HD video playback, Multiple Snapshots, 4-way vSMP, and Better Linux Support (Unity & Easy Install)
  • More Mac-like, More Mac-friendly with all new Welcome Screen, Virtual Machine Library and Virtual Machine Settings, Cover Flow and Quick Look integration, and Apple Help
  • Mac OS X Leopard Server now is supported in a virtual machine on Mac hardware

If you already have a copy of Fusion 1.x running, you’ll be happy to know that this is a free upgrade. Otherwise, you can pick up Fusion 2.0 for $79.

DWTS Updates: Cristian de la Fuente, Mark Ballas and Derek Hough

Cristian de la Fuente on Dancing with the Stars

Nearly four weeks after an his on-camera injury, actor Cristián de la Fuente is finally getting a chance to rest his arm. Back on April 28, the Dancing with the Stars finalist ruptured a tendon while dancing the Samba with his partner Cheryl Burke. Although it was determined he would need to have surgery, his doctors allowed him to continue on with the competition.

Surprisingly, despite his limited range of motion, the telenovela star rebounded with more focused performances and higher scores. Unfortunately, his inability to carry off more dazzling lifts - and Kristi’s undeniable skill - kept him from snagging the mirrored ball trophy in the end.

Major Gear Live Discussion Forums Upgrade: Feature List

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements,

Alright, so in the continuing effort to make our discussion forums even better, we have just unleashed a bunch of new upgrades:

  • Added an ignore member feature.
  • Added the ability for users to report posts to moderators.
  • Added ability to search by member group in Advanced Search Form
  • Refined nomenclature for topics, replies, and posts (which is now consistently used as the sum of the topics and replies).
  • Fixed a bug where posting a new reply would return you to the topic’s first page instead of the last page.
  • Fixed a bug where an image attachment thumbnail would mistakenly increase the dimensions of the image.
  • Fixed a bug where deleting a user’s topics when banning them would cause other users’ posts to the affected topics to be orphaned.
  • Fixed a bug where merging two topics would result in the topic being set by the newer thread instead of the older one.
  • Fixed a bug where attachments were not being connected properly on merge or split.
  • Fixed a bug where a Topic’s edit date would change when any action was taken on the thread instead of only when the title or body was edited
  • Fixed a bug that would allow posting and editing of posts in Read Only forums.

Those are the main ones, but there are a bunch more improvements “under the hood” so to speak. Give things a test and let us know if you find anything odd!
