Amanda Bynes Advised Against Fashion School

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Style, Meltdowns, Rumors,

Amanda BynesAmanda Bynes has been advised against attending fashion school.

The troubled actress was only discharged from treatment for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder last week, but is said to have signed for classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in California, which psychiatrists have advised against.

"Amanda was told by her doctors that going to fashion school, so soon after being released... [is] an absolutely terrible idea for her to do at this time - it's almost setting her up for failure. There will be pressure on Amanda as far as school work, deadlines, and it's unlikely she will be able to succeed. The fashion school she is enrolled in is in Orange County, almost two hours from her parents' house, and she still doesn't have a valid driver's license," a source said.

Amanda is back living with her parents, Rick and Lynn - who has been granted conservatorship of her daughter - but the source thinks she should take returning to her studies more slowly.

David and Victoria Beckham with their kidsDavid and Victoria Beckham have enrolled their children in an English school.

The couple are now househunting in London after finding a $24,000-a-year establishment in the UK capital for sons Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, 10, and Cruz, seven, and will make the move from Los Angeles in the summer. David and Victoria are also believed to have found a nursery suitable for their 17-month-old daughter Harper.

"For David and Victoria, the children come first. They have spent months researching schools and after visiting a few earlier this month, have found one they agree on. It's an independent school and will not be fazed by having celebrity children on its books. Intel working on StudyBook, a tablet for students

Intel Studybook

Intel has been working on designing a tablet, dubbed the Studybook, that focuses and built primarily on educational needs. The tablet would run on Windows 7 or Android 3.0, powered by the Atom Z650 processor, feature a front and rear-facing camera, 1 GB of RAM, and all the versatile ports such as USB 2.0, HDMI, and a microSD slot. It would fall into Intel’s line of educational computers, such as the Classmate Convertible, which is used by 7 million students over the whole world.

Now, you might be cringing thinking about how quickly students will destroy the tablets, but Intel has designed the Studybook to withstand abuse. It’s made of durable plastic and can withstand a drop from about 2 feet or so.

The StudyBook is to come with preinstalled educational software, such as the Kno e-reader and LabCam suite for science. It’s reported that the tablet should sell around $200, but no word of when its official release and availability date will be.

Giving Back to Schools

I am all for giving back in anyway we can, especially to our education system because the teachers that work tirelessly to help mold our children into responsible, educated adults should not have to worry about such things as; do they have enough pencils, calculators, books, or any other supplies in order to teach their students successfully? When did our education system get to the point that these things are constant obstacles getting in the way of a teacher doing the job they were hired for? Instead, spending time worrying about who to convince to supply new books for the school library so their kids will be reading things that are relevant to our time now instead of 50 years ago?

Gear Live Gives Back: Education Charity Drive

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements,

Alright, let’s take a break for just a moment away from the standard news fare. We know that you guys love the gadgets, gizmos, and consumer electronics just as much as we do.  These expensive and cool toys are often a marvel when you break them down to the technology that drives them. That’s what makes what we do fun, and why we love the interaction we have with our readers. However, we want to focus a bit of attention on the young ones in our country who would be happy to have a calculator for use in class, and the teachers who work for districts that can’t afford things like projectors for use in their schools.

Gear Live has joined the 2007 DonorsChoose Blogger Challenge, and we have chosen ten great causes that are centered around getting some basic technology into classrooms located in our local area, as well as some of the hardest areas still suffering the affects of Hurricane Katrina. We’ve chosen ten causes that we thought touched on what we believed in, and you can take a look at them and choose which one(s) you want to help. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the children of our nation. Just know that the money you donate will go directly to that specific teacher request - not into some big pot of money that is then doled out by the organization. As donations come in, there meter over on the right will fill up.

Some of the most expensive purchases for schools are consumer electronics. We believe that all children need to get acquainted with the tools of the future as they learn so they when they are ready to hit the workforce, they can succeed alongside their peers. Please, help us in assisting teachers, children, and schools in low-income areas get the tools they need to help their children excel.
