Dell Pharos-Branded Traveller Smartphones

When something like this comes out we just have to share. Rumor has it that Dell has gotten together with Pharos in an effort to jump on the smartphone bandwagon with the Traveller 117 and 127. Each has Windows Mobile 6.1, QWERTY keyboard and 7.2 Mbps HSDA support. They also have VGA video call capability, a 2 megapixel cam, and four hours of talk time and 200 standby. While the Travellers may have some awesome GPS capability, we don’t think Apple or RIM have too much to worry about.

Samsung Epix i907 Starts Arriving At AT&T Stores

The new AT&T Samsung Epix i907 has been showing up in AT&T stores recently as expected. The phone is basically a Blackjack, but benefits from a touch screen incorporating Haptic feedback, a QWERTY keyboard and optical mouse. The phone uses Windows Mobile 6.1 for the Core OS and supports 850MHz, 1900MHz, 2100MHz HSDPA 3G networks and carries a built-in GPS. The i907 also incorporates a microSD slot, 2 megapixel camera, and costs $199 with a 2 year contract. If the iPhone isn’t your thing because tactile QWERTY keyboard is needed, this may be for you.

E-Ten Glofiish Smartphones

E-Ten has two new Windows Mobile Professional Smartphones to tempt you with, the Glofiish M810 and the M750. Both of them have 64MB RAM, 256MB ROM, quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, a Samsung S3C2442 500 MHz processor, and are Bluetooth 2.0 capable. In addition, each features GPS, a 2.0 megapixel cam with auto-focus, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, a microSD slot, and a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen. The M810 has support for tri-band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity. Look for them to be making their retail debut in the next couple of weeks.

Digitalcube has unveiled a multimedia electronic dictionary in Korea. The i-station UDIC features a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen that swivels, a QWERTY keyboard, and supports text-to-speech. With 50 kinds of dictionaries and access to a multi-search enging, thank goodness it also features a translation service, as it looks to us like Korean is the main language featured, which of course is logical. Does This Mark the Demise of the PC?

It would appear that the PC’s popularity is lessening in Japan, as overall shipment has declined for the last five quarters. Taking its place are flat panel TVs and cell phones, according to analyst Masahiro Katayama. He added that kids there spend more time using their phones, advanced game consoles, and smart phones to access the Internet than computers. PC makers have taken to marketing low end products in countries for have those who will become first time users. While we suspect that this trend will continue, there is no way that we could ever completely give up our comfortable QWERTY keyboard and widescreen monitors for tiny finger pads and minuscule displays.

Gallery: Xbox 360 QWERTY Keyboard Attachment

So, yesterday we told you about the newly announced Xbox 360 QWERTY Keyboard Attachment, which it seems many wrote off as being a well-done Photoshop job. However, Microsoft has confirmed that the product is real, and that it will be making it’s way to store shelves this summer at a still-unannounced price point. Contrary to what some believe, the keyboard is an attachment to the current Xbox 360 controller, not a stand-alone keyboard/controller combo. The keyboard will also be backlit, which fits right into the reality that many a gamer enjoy playing in the dark. We were able to see this product at a couple of different stages in it’s development, and think it will be a hit, so long as the backlit display doesn’t suck up battery usage too much.

Xbox 360 QWERTY Keyboard Controller Attachment

Wow, seems like we have been sitting on this one for months. After seeing a few prototypes, we are glad to see that what looks to be the finalized Xbox 360 QWERTY keyboard controller attachment looks a lot more sensible than what we saw. Now obviously, this makes perfect sense for a while lot of reasons. First and foremost, as seen in the leaked Xbox 360 Spring 2007 Dashboard Update video (if it is to be believed,) Microsoft is planning on integrating Windows Live Messenger contacts directly into your Xbox 360 dashboard. A QWERTY keyboard would be the saving grace of that feature, as the current methodolgy of typing on the Xbox 360 is mundane at best. Of course, it will also come in handy for games where typing to your teammates is an added feature as well. Look for this one to drop this summer, pricing still unknown. 2006 Holiday Gift Guide: Motorola Q

If you are looking for a full-fledged smartphone that lacks bulk, look the way of the Motorola Q. The Q packs in Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapoxel camera, and a QWERTY keyboard into a freaking thin 4.3 x 2.5 x 0.5-inch handset. The Motorola Q weighs just 4.1 ounces, so carrying this phone around is very comfy. The Q also sports a scroll wheel on the side, reminding us of the BlackBerry mainstay, and it works nicely on the Windows Mobile 5 OS. The screen is a 2.4-inch 320x240 display, but we wish the font size could be bumped down a few notches to fit more text without having to scroll. The Q can also do multimedia, which can be access on Verizon’s EV-DO network, or locally by packing your content onto a miniSD card.

BlackBerry has gone mainstream with the BlackBerry Pearl 8100. Much more than a business-level messaging device, the Pearl 8100 packs in a 1.3-megapixel camera, vibrant 320x240 display, and MP3 support. The abridged QWERTY keypad allows you to type messages quicker than you would using standard T9, and also keeps the phone as thin as any other cell phone out there, with dimensions of 4.2 x 2 x 0.6-inches. The BlackBerry Pearl 8100 throws away the scroll wheel, and instead uses the Pearl-esque scroll ball in the center of the device. Throw in EDGE support, and you have a winner.
