Amazon selling HD DVDs for $7.99 each

Okay, we know that some of us put all our stock into HD DVD, going all out on movies and players, only to be burned by the eventual Blu-ray victory. However, that also means that HD DVD player owners can enjoy some steep discounts on media for the failed format. As an example, Amazon is currently selling 99 HD DVD titles for $7.99. Seriously, perfectly good movies like The Bourne Supremacy, Army of Darkness, and the like, all for $7.99. Meanwhile, those of us buying Blu-ray are doing so at $20 or more a pop! See? Doesn’t that make you feel better about your HD DVD investment? We didn’t think so.

Netflix to Cease Selling Used DVDs

Netflix Picks Netflix has decided to stop selling previously viewed DVDs. Some are as low as $5.99 and include such titles at that price as “Casino Royale,” “Into the Wild,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “American Gangster,” and “Spiderman 3.” Of course there will also be suggestions according to your previous favorites. After November 30, they will focus on simply renting. That’s fine with us. We love the fact that we can watch a film as often or as much as we want and not have extra DVDs taking up space.

Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player

Hook it up to My Passport portable drive (sold separately) or USB drives, digital cams, PMPs, and camcorders and enjoy movies, user-generated videos, digital music, or slide shows on your TV. Compatible with most types of media, you can navigate by file name or thumbnails, zoom and pan, and add close captioning. The WD TV has 2 ports to allow you to access two USB drives at the same time. The device comes with ArcSoft MediaConverter 2.5, a compact remote with batteries, an AV cable and AC adapter at a price of $129.99 online.

The limited edition 8GB Micro Vault Click Drive has a hidden USB connector and includes a virtual expander to store 3 times the data. There is the nifty logo on the side and the device comes pre-loaded with a movie trailer, behind the scenes footage and images. We guess that that there may not have been enough initial interest, as the price has dropped from $49.99 to $29.99.

Netflix Adds TiVo as Streaming Partner

Netflix has been busy, busy, busy. We already knew that Netflix will be available for Macs by the end of the year and on Xbox Live for Gold members next month, and now they have announced that they are adding TiVo as a partner that already includes LG, Microsoft and Samsung. You will be able to receive movies on your TiVo Series3, TiVo HD or TiVo HD XL. Testing has already begun and the service should be available to all by December.

Entertainment Industry Reacts to Hudson Tragedy

“I’m planning on touring,” Jennifer Hudson smiled and spoke enthusiastically only weeks ago. “There’s more films and more music and stuff like that [in the future],” she said. “I want to start a fashion line as well, start writing music.” After her breakout performance in Dreamgirls, appearing as Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant in the runaway hit chick flick Sex and the City and with a new album and movie already making waves, Jennifer Hudson’s life seemed charmed. Today, the effervescent star is at the center of a grisly tragedy.

Engaged to David Otunga and on the brink of what appears to be an extremely successful career, Hudson talked of her many future plans. “It’s gonna be a production,” she said of her wedding. “I have so many visions for it right now - I get to put that together.”

Hudson, 27, had the world at her feet only last week. Now, she probably feels the weight of the world crashing down on her shoulders. Over the weekend, Hudson’s mother and brother were victims of domestic violence, events which proved fatal for both. On Monday, the star was in Chicago identifying the body of her nephew Julian, 7, who had gone missing after the killings took place.

Sharp to Combine Blu-ray Recorders With AQUOS

AQUOS logo We figured it had to be coming eventually and it appears that the time is here. Sharp has sent out a press release that they are combining their 16 AQUOS DS Series LCDs with Blu-ray recorders. The Digital W tuner allows simultaneous watching while recording another program/movie in HD. The TVs will range from 26 to 52-inches, and each features a motion guide, preset functions, and 3 color variations. Look for a release date of November 20 in Japan.
