Sprint Tri-Fi LTE Hotspot

Sprint has made the smart decision to move to LTE for its future high-speed mobile network, but in the meantime, it's got WiMAX and 3G to take advantage of while building out the faster LTE that's set for a limited summer launch. Rather than continuing to sell deprecated hotspots, Sprint is hoping tha the Tri-Fi will be a nice bridge. Set to launch on May 18th, the Sprint Tri-Fi is a mobile hotspot that supports its current WiMAX and 3G networks, as well as the LTE network as well, and comes to you from Sierra Wireless.  You can pick this bad boy up for $99 after a $50 rebate, alongside a two-year contract.

Verizon set to offer free hotspot abilities with iPad 4G LTE

Verizon-4G-LTE-Hotspot

For those that are itching to get their hands on a new iPad,  users looking to tether might be interested to know that Verizon will be offering free hotspot access with its data plans. That means you’ll be able to use your tablet at 4G LTE speeds. That may come in handy when traveling or when the internet is down. But regardless the new feature gives new iPad shoppers more options.

Now as we’ve all come to know, phone carriers try to nickel and dime their customers. For lack of a better cliché, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, when it comes to adding features to your phone plans. That said, Verizon will be including 1 GB of data available as hotspot on all their 4G LTE data plans, that also includes their 1 GB data plan which starts at 20 bucks a month. Furthermore, Verizon is not requiring you to get locked in to an annual data plan, giving you the option to pay for data per monthly usage, as has been typical with iPad data.

Unboxing Live 072: Verizon 4G LTE MiFi Mobile Hotspot

We open up the Verizon 4G LTE MiFi hotspot in this episode of Unboxing Live. The MiFI is a portable Wi-Fi hotspot that connects to Verizon's vast 4G LTE network at speeds that meet, or in some cases, exceed, the typical home broadband speeds that we are all used to. You can connect up to five devices to the network that the MiFi creates, allowing you fast Internet access on the go, anywhere within Verizon's 4G footprint. Leave a 4G area, and the MiFi will drop down to 3G speeds, which is a nice backup, and not something that all current 4G hotspots offer. It also has a low power e-ink display to show the status of the connection and battery life, something Samsung's SCH-LC11 4G hotspot surprisingly left out.

Big thanks to our sponsor - GoToMeeting makes it easy to collaborate with anyone, anywhere - and they have just released their new HD faces feature that lets you see the webcams of up to 6 users as a time, which means you're collaborating face-to-face. Also,  be sure and grab a free $5 credit from JackThreads now!

Bleeding Edge TV 345: Sprint 4G Case for iPad review

We give you a first look at the Sprint 4G Case for the in this episode. Sprint, trying to capitalize on all the iPad buzz, and the fact that they are the first carrier in North America to offer 4G service, released this case as a method to push their Sprint Overdrive 4G mobile hotspot. You can get it free with purchase of an Overdrive device at Best Buy. You can also check out our written Sprint 4G Case review, along with the Sprint 4G iPad Case gallery.

Bleeding Edge TV 345: Sprint Overdrive 4G review

We’ve talked about the Sprint Overdrive hotspot a bunch, including a look at a scenario where it saved us from the perils of AT&T in our Sprint Overdrive review. Well, in this episode, we review the Sprint Overdrive 4G mobile broadband hotspot, letting you know all the details on the device and what you can do with it. Seriously, this thing allows you to connect up to five devices (think iPhone, iPad, laptop, etc.) to Sprint’s 4G network at the same time in supported cities. The Overdrive will fall back to 3G if you leave a 4G area, still supporting up to five devices (albeit, a bit more slowly.) It’s a solid device, and it’s no wonder that Sprint’s trying to jump on the iPad bandwagon with the Overdrive.

Novatel MiFi gives you a personal 3G Wi-Fi hotspot

Novatel MiFi

has just announced the future release of their new MiFi 3G portable hotspot, and we are officially excited. Using the MiFi, you’ll be able to grab the signal from your EV-DO Rev. A or HSPA account, and share it over Wi-Fi to a group. For example, you can hit up Starbucks with two buddies, break out the MiFi, and all three of you can hit the Internet without paying for Starbucks Wi-Fi three times. The MiFi device itself looks just as awesome as its usage scenarios, as it just as long and wide as a credit card, and isn’t really that tall. Novatel is also touting that the battery will last for 4 hours when used actively, and 40 hours when on standby. Nice.

Mark our words - we are going to be keeping an eye on the news leading up to the Novatel MiFi official release. Expect to see if available for purchase in for first half of 2009.

PSP Owners Get Six Months Free Wi-Fi From T-Mobile

Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Internet, PSP,

HotspotSony Computer Entertainment America today announced a partnership with T-Mobile to allow PSP users six months free access to T-Mobile’s network of hotspots. Gamers with a PSP can get access to the hotspots by upgrading their PSP firmware to version 3.30 and signing on before March 28, 2008. Given the number of freely accessible hotspots that seem to be cropping up around urban areas, T-Mobile’s pay options often seem a bit steep, but with locations in Starbucks coffee shops all over the nation, PSP owners will definitely have more options when gaming on the go. Specific terms of the access were not announced, but after the six-month trial period expires, T-Mobile is promising a reduced rate for PSP owners.

Sony’s full press release continues below.
